The juvenile leopon was crouched down, hind end in the air and his head half inside a hole - something's burrow, presumably. Blinking crumbles of dirt out of his eyes, he worked a paw inside the hole as well to try to widen it a little more. He was sure there was something in here. Exactly what it was, he didn't actually know; the smell wasn't a familiar one.

But what Susurika did know was that he was hungry, and determined to try and get something for himself.

Ever since she'd been reunited with her friend Kereng'ende, Ivilis' life had taken quite the interesting turn. She'd never been anywhere with such a high concentration of lions before, or such a variety. What had mystified her the most, perhaps, was the discovery of creatures who were, well...only part lion. It had never even occurred to her before this that interbreeding was possible, and yet here there were lions who were also part leopard!

She'd even been informed that there were such things as cheetah hybrids. It was, all in all, a little bit bizarre. Not a bad sort of bizarre, just...bizarre.

When she saw the back end - inluding the smooth, tuft-less tail - of a youngster that looked somewhat familiar, she paused. "Susurika? Is that you? What are you doing with your head in a hole?"

'Lis had come to know the leopon, and assorted other members of his family, via their relation-by-mating to Kere's family.

Huh? With his head in the ground, it was a little difficult for Susurika to hear anything. As such, while he was pretty sure he'd heard something, he didn't know who or what. Reluctantly pulling himself free, he turned around to face the speaker and sat on the burrow...just in case whatever-it-was had any ideas about getting away.

Oh! It was that purple, stripey lioness. "Huh? Did you say something?"

Yes, that was definitely Susurika, although he looked quite ridiculous. His ordinarily striking black and white, leopard-spotted coat was half covered in dirt! "I was just wondering why you had your face in the dirt, is all," she said. "Were you following something?"

"Weeeelll, not exactly," the young leopon admitted, trying to get comfortable. It was hard to do, when you were sitting on a hole! "I just found this hole, you see, and I smelled something, so I thought I'd look in and see if it was something I could eat."

He'd just...come across a hole and stuck his head in?! Ivilis blinked at the juvenile, quite taken aback. That was dangerous! Didn't he know better? "You probably shouldn't do that," she suggested, trying to be delicate about it. "Unless you know for sure what's really in a hole, you ought not to go poking into it. Snakes like to move into holes other things have made, and you might get bitten."

"...oh." Susurika's ears fell back a little. "I guess I hadn't thought about that." Now that he did, however, he was relatively sure he didn't want to be sitting on this hole anymore! He promptly moved off of it to sit elsewhere.

"It's alright," the lioness assurred him, hoping she hadn't sounded too harsh in the first place. One the whole, she didn't have a great deal of experience in dealing with children, so it was difficult to gauge how to act or what to say sometimes. "Just remember it next time you find a hole, okay? It would be really awful to get bitten by a snake, especially if it's a poisonous one."

Susurika nodded his dusty head, taking Ivilis quite seriously at her word. Getting bitten by anything hurt - he didn't want to know how much more it would hurt if it were something poisonous! Well, okay, that wasn't entirely true...he just didn't care to find out first-hand. "Have you ever been bitten by a snake?"
PostPosted: Tue May 26, 2009 7:34 pm

"Me? Bitten by a snake?" Ivilis laughed, both surprised and amused by the question. "Goodness no! I don't think I would be here if I had been. I haven't been bitten by much of anything but my siblings, actually. One of my brothers was very bitey, although he's probably grown out of it by now."

"I certainly hope so, anyway," she chuckled. "But speaking of siblings, maybe you should get back to yours? I'm sure if you're hungry, one of your relatives can get you something?"

"I really wanted to find something myself," Susurika said, heaving a sigh. "But I don't want to get bitten, either, so I guess you're right." He stood, shaking some of the dirt from his fur. "Well, I'll see you later then. Thanks for telling me about the snakes!"

The leopon headed off in search of his family, hoping there would be a meal in his near future.
