A Scrying mirror can be any flat surface that is black, reflects, and shiny. It doesn't have to be a genuine black mirror - the easiest way to make one yourself is to get a blank picture frame and put in a sheet of black glossy paper or fabric.
Here are some key things to this mirror:
- It would work best in the dark, though have a candle lit. You would want the candle behind you or the mirror, so your eyes won't be distracted by the flame.
- When you try to scry, do not look directly at the mirror. Keep your eyes unfocused, look somewhat away, but look in the mirror in a side-way glance. Also try sitting at an angle, to the left or right of the mirror, especially when it is in the center of your altar or other surface. Or, have the mirror at an angle.
- If you see something, try to maintain the image/images in your mind at least until you can write it down in a journal or your Book of Shadows, in order to translate what they mean.

I agree with making my own scrying mirror, but my only problem is finding a cool picture frame to use. I don't want just another square one.

You could also take a picture frame, pop out the glass and layer one side with enough layers of black paint, so it is solid on the other side when it dries. A personal incantation could be said as you layer the paint if you'd like to make it more personal and weave more of your own energies into it. 3nodding

I think that it would be a good idea to cover the scrying mirror when it is not in use. wink Some people might prefer a black cloth or purple.
Does anyone else think that you could have different mirrors for different purposes?
For example, could you make them different colors and could you use them for other people as well?

I think so, it would be useful for future use I think. Me personally, I would make them as I would need them, but eventually I would accumulate many of them. smile
