Playing with the Big Boys -- private role-play

Player
: Sevilin & We`rika and Riv
Setting: Sports bar in Aekea; hot summer afternoon

---

A few days after his unconventional talk with We`rika, Sevilin asked his guardian what adult people do with each other. His immediate response was to make it rain on strippers to which the sea fairy replied with a scowl.

"I dunno, Sev... I'm not a normal adult. People just... hang out, go ta movies or bars and s**t. I think... I dunno..."

With only that pearl of wisdom to go by, Sevilin called Riv up to come "hang out" with him at a hip mature sports bar in Aekea that We`rika frequented enough. Of course, his guardian wouldn't let him go alone but he promised to stay out of the way unless someone tried to maul him. He doubted anything like that would really happen, but this was the same person who believed a person enough to get into their car and get molested soooo.... We`rika might know what he was talking about.

It was a nice sports bar, albeit a bit small (not that he could really judge on his first time in one), but it was acrid with smoke which the shaman gratefully inhaled with a smile. "At leas' ya dun has lungs haha..." Patting Sevilin on the back he scooted past tables and a group playing pool to hit the bar for some beer.

The little frei, now alone like he'd wanted, wasn't sure what to do while he waited. He was too afraid to go up and talk with people now after what happened, and most of the men in here didn't look too ready to engage in small talk with a floating torso. So instead, he floated on the sidelines watching two men play darts on the wall. Either they were all done for the day or him staring at them was creeping the men out, but regardless he was sure he'd seen enough to get the gist of throwing pointy things at a board. He gathered up five of them and tossed one. It didn't even make it to the board and just flailed onto the floor.

"..........."

He hoped Riv got here soon so he could stop embarrassing himself.

Rivener had been rather startled at the invitation. First of all, Sevilin had never called him before. Secondly, the watery frei's tone had been so forced-sounding, as though he was a bad actor in a play. Thirdly, a sports bar!? Riv couldn't imagine a worse setting for the feminine blue-haired Raevan. He'd stick out like a sore thumb! Just thinking of those pretty fins and innocent large eyes and pastel-clad body floating there among a cloud of smoke and surrounded by bikers was just... odd. Still, Rivener had said yes. Whatever had prompted Sevilin to ask for this was probably weird, but the Scorpion wasn't about to let the sea fairy cry because he'd said no.

Aekea was rather far, and Rivener had needed to take two trains and a bus to get here. Still, it was a very warm day and the sunshine made him comfortable enough that he didn't feel too irritated with all the commuting. He had found his way to the bar Sevilin had announced they'd meet at, and he was hardly late at all! Running a clawed hand through his hair one last time to settle it into place perfectly, Rivener floated in.

As expected, Riv spotted Sevilin right away. The bright splotch of color in the otherwise dimly-lit place was rather hard to miss. Smiling, the Sigel floated forward, lifting a hand to wave in greeting. "Hey Sev! Sorry I'm a bit late, had to travel a bit to get here. ...Ah, are those your darts?" The Scorpion pointed to the two feather-ended darts poking out of the floor not far away, grinning.

"Uhh...!" Startled into a grunt, Sevilin looked over at the red Raevan and did his best not to gawk. Riv was uhh.... bigger. Probably the third Raevan he'd seen that had grown. Everyone was just sprouting up these days, except him. But thankfully it gave the little frei an excuse to drastically change the subject away from his horrible aim.

"Wow, Riv..." Sevilin started quietly, floating over to pull the few darts that littered the floor in front of him. Putting them back with the rest of the pile, the sea nypmh came over to the sigel with a soft smile. "There's... more of you," Sevilin laughed shortly, doing his best to keep it at room level before patting Riv on the back like We`rika had done. That's how adults greeted each other he surmised. He wanted to poke the Raevan's stomach, but he had to contain himself. Gotta act mature...

"I hope it was easy to find. I didn't really know any places kinda halfway sorry..." Sevilin did his best not to look back at We`rika. He had to be autonomous and grown-up! This was a lot harder than he thought. He assumed grown-upness would just... happen, but.... it really wasn't. "Sooo.... How's....... stuff?" He did his best to keep a nice serious discussion expression, but his big blue eyes betrayed all his hard work.

Rivener's smile widened into a wide grin as Sevilin stumbled over his words for a moment, apparently stunned by Riv's new body. Ahh, that's right, he hasn't seen me since then. Heh. And he's properly impressed- Clearing his throat to shove those vain thoughts out of his head, Rivener instead propped one hand on his hip, waiting for the blue frei to finish putting away his darts.

Rivener's initial reaction of smugness was quickly turning into confusion over the way the sea fairy was acting. What was with that quiet laugh instead of the usual bubbly-cute one? And that clap on the back? And that weird LOOK as Sev awkwardly asked "how's stuff"?... Frowning, the Scorpion flapped his wings, sending smoke billowing out from around them. "Sevilin... Are you okay? Is something wrong?" For god's sake, for someone to look like they were forcing the interaction like this... "Did someone kidnap you or something, do you need my help?"

Finally the Sigel looked around the room for threat, floating closer to the long-haired frei and keeping his wings out wide, daring anyone to come closer. People WERE looking at them, but it was the same kind of staring Raevans usually got- ah, apart for-

"Werika!" Riv called, waving the Huichol over with a concerned frown. "Werika, something's wrong with Sevilin!"

Sevilin jumped back a step as Riv's wings flared dangerously behind him. Had he said something wrong already? But that thought quickly turned to a frantic plea to shut Riv up! "Wha--N-No--Riv! L--" Auuugh, Riv! Listen!! It was all Sevilin could to try and catch his attention again.

Even as he pulled at the black scorpion's arms, Sevilin was easily rebuffed. "I'm fine! No one--No one has kidnapped me! Jeez!" Hey--No! No no no!" Don't talk to We`rika! "H--" Once again he was shushed by a hard chest in his face while Rivener did his best to "protect" the fragile little creature. At least he could count on this sigel to take a bullet for him.

"I'mma no' here..." The shaman said automatically, turning around back to the bar as if he was no part of Sevilin's life. The little frei wanted to be by himself and so he would. "Hey can I have 'nother?" Tapping on his glass to get the bartender's attention.

"Nothing's wrong with me, I'm jes! .... Trying to be more... you know... mature..."
PostPosted: Mon May 25, 2009 1:47 pm

Rivener's mouth fell open in outraged shock, a deep glaring frown on his face when Werika reacted like that, as though he didn't even know who Sevilin was. "How DARE-"

Only now did the Scorpion notice that Sevilin was tugging on his arms and trying to stop him, speaking up. Red eyes lost their angry glimmer as Riv looked back down at Sev, blinking in mild confusion. "Wha?" he asked, wings settling against his back slowly, one eyebrow quirking up in question. "Mature? You're trying to be more mature?... Hahah, Oh Sev. It's not really coming off natural, you know." The Sigel stared at the room one last time, double-checking for threat and finding only the same bemused, impressed stares as before. With a sigh Riv looked back at his blue-eyed friend, examining...

"Alright, sorry I freaked. You were just acting so... so not-Sev-like. Here, can we sit?"
Rivener floated to the closest high table, sitting on the tall chair easily, his ribbon curling about the legs. Crossing his arms on the veneered top, the Scorpion leaned towards Sevilin once the frei joined him. "So what's all this, then? Why are you trying to be all mature?"

Sevilin sighed and hung his head at the sigel's negative response to his hard work. Maybe he should have done a bit more research before this experiment. "Okay..." He allowed Riv to lead him to the nearest table and he sat gracelessly on the seat beside.

His usually chipper face was wrinkled with distraught as he flopped his long arms onto the lacquered table like the child he was. "Well I mean I was still... me! I jes... another side of me--Who am I kidding, I suck at being a grown-up...." His big eyes drifted over to the sigel after his sucky self-reflection, the fairy's chin resting on the table like a sad sulking dog. "Well because...! I.... you know... I'm... Everyone treats me like a baby and I wanna be taken serious for once..."
PostPosted: Mon May 25, 2009 3:37 pm

Rivener raised both eyebrows in slight surprise to hear Sevilin confess his true motive. The Sigel laughed, ruby eyes crinkling up in amusement. "So the whole Come to this bar to meet me thing was because you were trying to be more grown-up?" That smelled of Werika to high heaven. "Sev, who treats you like a baby? I don't think I do. ...Well, I may be a little protective sometimes, but I'm like that with everyone who matters to me. And I take you seriously, enough that I thought you were in trouble and trying to get me to notice something when you were being all weird just now..." Tilting his head, realizing he didn't quite know what the sea fairy was trying to get across maybe, Rivener sat back in his chair.

"Hm... What's everyone's hurry about being grown-up anyway. I mean, yeah being a Sigel is fun and all, but after that probably comes the LEGS and, ah... That doesn't seem so fun. 'Cause then we'd be all boring and stuffy like our guardians. You wanna be a chainsmoking alcoholic like Werika?"
Riv teased, poking one of Sevilin's puffed-out cheeks.

"Aw, come on, cheer up! It's fine to be you. People will take you seriously when it matters, as long as you say what you wanna say earnestly. Like just now, the way you told me you wanted to be taken serious for once! ...I said serious a bunch of times just now, hunh."
Snickering at himself, the Scorpion leaned his chin in a fist, mimicking Sevilin's pout. "Mm?"

Sevilin listened quietly, his pout growing and shortening during Riv's explanation. Eventually his eyes drifted down to his hands and picked at his fingers. "I don't really care... if I grow. I jes... thought it would make people notice me more than jes a girly boy..." He shrugged, guessing it didn't really matter now. He would just have to be him and make people see that there was more to him than a bubbly face.

When Riv mentioned We`rika, the little sea fairy puckered his lips and leaned back to watch his guardian down another drink. "..... Yyeah no. I think he's more lonely than I am..." Smiling humorlessly, he looked back to the red Raevan.

"... Do I really mater to you?" Last time he played with Rivener, he hadn't really enjoyed his company at first and that really hurt. He wanted everyone to like him. But Sevilin couldn't keep his serious pout in place as Riv mirrored him, and it was all he could do not to laugh out loud. "I don't look like that do I?!" Sevilin floated out of his seat and wrapped his arms around his friend. His hands gravitated to the sigel's handsome face, cupping his cheeks as he pulled back and looked around the bar.

".......................... Wanna go somewhere else?"
PostPosted: Tue May 26, 2009 11:00 am

Rivener couldn't say he really fully understood what Sevilin might be going through, with such a girly face and all. Riv's problems were that people mostly took him TOO seriously, Aphi in particular, always fearing Riv was about to commit a murder or something. Sevilin was on the other side of the spectrum and while that made them both very different from one another, there were also a ton of similarity there. The Scorpion could, in some way, empathize.

Learning that Werika was lonelier than even his sea-fairy ward was a surprise, causing the dark eyebrows to arch up and the red eyes to peek over at the man. "He's lonely? ...Well maybe if he wasn't so caustic-"

Sevilin's next question was another mild surprise, bringing the same arched-eyebrow look over to the blue frei. "Of course you matter to me! You're a good friend, Sevilin. I came here when you asked, without asking questions, didn't I? I was all upset when I thought you'd been kidnapped or something just now, didn't I?" Riv smiled, thoroughly pleased that the sea-Raevan had nearly laughed. "And yes, you most certainly DO look like that. Pouty-face." The Sigel chuckled.

Sevilin's hugging was nothing out of the ordinary, but when those little hands slid to hold Rivener's cheeks like that, the Scorpion's mind automatically jumped to the thought: This looks like in the movies, before a kiss... Is he going to KISS me?! That was a big shock, and the Scorpion tensed up for a second before Sevilin spoke. Although what he said didn't help matters, sounding like Sev was trying to pick Riv up. After all they WERE in a bar. The usual place for such sentences to drop.

"Er... suuuure," Riv answered with a quirked eyebrow, a little uneasy but too curious to stop this altogether. Not yet anyway. "Where to?"

"Really?" Sevilin's smile returned to his round face and he pulled Riv back into a tight hug. "I'm glad. You're my friend too!" Well that was easier than he thought. He had really blown all this way out of proportion. Ugh, meaning We`rika had been totally right. b*****d. He couldn't let his guardian know this though. All would have to be elaborately orchestrated in order for this to remain hush hush. The sea fairy's blue eyes looked to Riv. He hoped it wouldn't come to silencing this Raevan with death!

"Uhh I dunno I didn't think that far. Somewhere not so.... bleh--Oh! Let's go look at puppies! OR KITTIES! OR OH! A CANDY STORE!!" At Riv's strange expression, Sevilin realized he was probably making a spectacle. He pulled his lips back into a discrete smile and lowered his ringing voice. "Or... I dunno, where do you wanna go? .... Riv?" Sevilin rubbed the sigel's cheeks. "Are you okay? Ya look like I'm gonna eat ya haha!" Looking back at his guardian, the little frei wrinkled his nose. "Dun worry about him, he won't even know we're gone. C'mon!" With a few gentle tugs, the blue raevan escorted Rivener out of the smoke and into some fresh air.

Well, there went THAT whole concept. Rivener chuckled, unable to believe that just two seconds ago he'd thought Sevilin had some less-than-pure motives when he'd mentioned leaving this place. Spike-adorned arms lifted to hug Sevilin right back the second time he offered such contact.

"Puppies, Kitties, or Candy, hunh?"
The Sigel snickered. "Can you even EAT Candy?" Nothing was mentioned about the whole "look like I'm going to eat you" comment, as it was a little too disturbingly close to what Rivener had actually been thinking. Seriously. Him, gobbled up by Sevilin!? That'd be the day. Snickering some more at the very idea, Rivener let himself be tugged outside, the pair of Raevans abandoning Werika at the bar. Riv somehow couldn't really make himself give a damn about this last fact.

"Well then. I hadn't really expected to suddenly be going somewhere... Ah, let's go on a ferris wheel or something, you and I. Isn't there an amusment park somewhere in town?"
Grinning, Riv headed off in some random direction until he could come up with a proper destination. And if they could run across some kittens or puppies or candy along the way, all the better.

Sevilin sniffed, looking to the open windows of shops that lined the street beside them. "Eh, yeah well! I can.... suck on them. They are jes so sweet how can you resist?!" Like those licorice whales ohhh so good! And sea salt ice cream and and salt water taffy! Ahhh! So delicious! Ohhh lord he wanted some right now. Ugh, but his walking wallet was still in the bar. Oh well.

Squinting up into the sun, Sevilin looked to Rivener. "What's a ferris wheel?" Amusement park? "Oh! Uhh the... uhmm uhhh wheely thing that you sit in and it like.......... goes up and stuff?" He was pretty sure he'd seen them on TV. "I've... never been to one. 'rika gets so exhausted after he gets home from work he usually doesn't have much time for anything, albeit passing out..." He couldn't deny it was frustrating. Most of the Raevans at least had some fun in their lives and his was reduced to playing video games and watching television like he had been doing since he could remember.
"Les go! I know Aekea has one, since it's all the techy town and everything. Uhmm...... Weeellll......." Which way? "Well, common sense says it would be close to the center of the city right? To attract the most attention, right? And ta be closest to everyone..." He was glad his travel channel surfing was paying off.

Rivener snickered once more as Sev just innocently spoke about sucking on things. Seriously where was Riv's mind today!? Jumping to these conclusions and whatnot. "I'm not big on candy, myself. But if we see some along the way, we can go buy some!" The Scorpion had some money on him, saved leftovers from his allowance after he'd gone on that clothes-shopping spree a while back. He didn't have anything else he planned on getting, so spending some dollars on candy and amusement park passes was perfectly fine with him.

They headed towards the center of town, a rather insightful idea on Sev's part. It took them more than a few hours to find the place, wandering around aimlessly as they were, but eventually the pair had indeed come across something perfect; ferris wheels, roller coasters, spinning rides and all kinds of kiosks where people yelled "step right up!" or "Try your luck!"

Rivener was chewing absently on a piece of saltwater taffy they'd bought on the way here, the Scorpion curious about the taste when Sevilin had gone on and on about how wonderfully tasty it was. It was alright, in Riv's mind, but nothing to uncurl your ribbon over. Still, if Sev liked it, that was good enough.

"Ohhh, roller coasters... I'd always wanted to go on one of those. Do you think it's dangerous for us? Wings will catch the wind, and it's not like we weigh anything for the centrifugal force to push down... Plus the lock-in bars won't really hold us securely at all, especially not you without a stomach. But I guess if we fall we can fly to safety. Do you wanna give it a try, Sev? Er, CAN you fly?" The fairy's wings weren't exactly very sturdy-looking... Perhaps Sev would only be able to float?

Sevilin chewed away at his spoils of war cheerfully, trying his best not to keep eying Rivener's half. Sharing is caring he had to remind himself. But it didn't stop him from his vulgar display of want and greed.

"Roller c--Ohh yeah!" The little sea fairy bounced and wiggled his wings fervently, undeterred by all the hazards Riv listed off. "Well... I can... flutter..." And as usual, the little frei gave a nice visual of his strengths. "I can jes hang on ta ya and you can fly me to safety..." Laughing melodiously, Sevilin readily wandered into the line to await his destiny!

Thankfully the line moved quickly, but there was a stickler of a carny who was pretty sure Sevilin did not meet the requirements. And so with Rivener's help pinning his ribbon down, Sevilin rose to meet the height line and smiled a nice s**t-eating grin he had picked up from We`rika.

"We'll see who stays on the longest..." The challenge was put out there and the blue raevan slid into an open seat with Rivener, gripping the bar for dear life. Riv had more strength than him, but he also had more weight.

This would be interesting.
