 Alderic was ready for the day to begin. He had slept well through the night nestled deep within the petals of a flower, lulled by the screaming of cicadas and now that the sun had risen he was fresh. A fellow like him had to be very careful to wake up with the right attitude every morning. He had a very important job to do!
The flutter drank his fill from the droplets of morning dew that clung to every petal and blade of grass within the small forest meadow. And when the sun was up, he winged his way to a high branch of one of the surrounding trees. He opened the gossamer appendages wide and let the sun warm them, closing his eyes with pleasure. Yes, it was going to be another beautiful day in the beautiful world. Cape? Check. Wand? Tucked in the collar of his cape. Mane? Gorgeous.
He was ready.

 Oh, she didn't know where Hilda had gone! Ophelia spent many careful minutes searching for her big sister, knowing she should stay by her side... before a butterfly flicked right over her nose. "Oh! Mr. Butterfly, your wings are so pretty!" She laughed and quickly tried to keep up with the flittering creature, trying not to lose sight of it. He was too fast! Ophelia valiantly tried her best to keep up, but soon found herself alone again. And way too far away from where she'd last seen Hilda! Shaking her head lightly, the young mare didn't seem too phazed by the concept of being by herself. It would give her a chance to explore! But where to begin? Shaking out her tail thoughtfully, Ophelia tipped her face up to the sky, a bright smile seated there. Of course, that soon vanished to be replaced by sudden surprise, squinting up at the.. the little shining thing up there in the tree! "Mr. Butterfly...?"

The tiny stallion would perk at the sound of a voice, not recognizing it as the usual tenor of the trees. He looked down to see what appeared to be a charming shade of purple attached to a wide set of nostrils. Jumping from his perch, he whisked his way down from the trees to get a better look at the female.
"Butterfly? Goodness, no!" He chuckled, swooping down past her right eye and circling around her heat to the other side. "I'm a fairy! Among other things."And then came to hover near her left eye. "What's your name, child?"

"Oh!" She squeaked with mingled surprise and delight as the tiny thing unexpectedly zoomed from its perch to hover near her face, bright eyes locking onto him. Why, it was a little horse! Sparkling and a pretty shade of blue, and with a silly cape and... and... and fluttering wings! "Oh, a fairy! Mr. Fairy, I'm so pleased to meet you!" A fairy! Hilda would never believe her, and Ophelia danced a little on her hooves before she paused at the question.
"My name is Ophelia!" Came the bright answer before she tilted her head. "Do you have a name, Mr. Fairy? Or is it a secret?" She understood, if so! Fairies were supposed to be secret things!

"Ophelia," He sang it out, his legs pedaling the air lazily as he hovered. "How do you do? No, no secret. My name is Alderic!"
He flitted on over to a rather study looking daisy to perch on nearby, appraising the girl from the distance. Hm! "Ophelia dear, I just love the image you have going for you! The hair might do with a bit of a trim, but other than that, who does your accessories?"

How could she not giggle at how he said her name? She was about to try humming it herself when he offered his, in turn, and she brightened immediately at the sound of it. "Alderic! I... do well! And how are you? Well, I hope!"
His sudden evaluation of her appearance was enough to make her pause, eyes wide and soon glancing down at herself. "Oh... Thank you!" That was a good thing, right? "Um, I don't really know... My sister and my mother both helped?" She peered at him slightly, clearly waiting to see what he had to say about that. She'd never really thought about it before, was all!
