Approaching from the north along with the wind she was, the invisible force teasing her deep purple fur with promises of a new life. The mountains from whence Merrill came was a most bitter region, toughening the she-wolf most appropriately throughout most of her life. But even the most cold-resistant pelt was immune to the strange disease that had ravaged her pack and, barely a newly instated beta, Merrill had fled to warmer land in hopes of escaping the mountain plague. Now she wandered in this new land for a sign of new hope - how appropriate that it was spring, then.
She had a penchant for talking to herself, the somewhat stout she-wolf did, and being alone for a time had wired her brain to do so to keep herself company, having been used to being in the presence of many wolves. "Take a right, Meme, 'tis probably a nice deviation from going south, south, south," she uttered aloud at one point, light green eyes swivelling in the direction briefly. More trees. To the left? Less trees. The river was the only constant she had and, though loathe to get near any body of water, Merrill had found it to be a true guide that led her down from the mountains. Yet where had it taken her? Hopefully towards better food, she was starting to grow hungry . . .

Kriggertarpok padded along the path she was on, going nowhere inparticular. Just headed away from home, looking for the hare she'd been trailing. Her tail waved high behind her, like one of the Two-legs sled dogs, though there was no relation. Krigger had merely never been taught that it wasn't a natural thing for a wolf, even a teen such as herself. So it waved high like a flag.
She was grinning from ear to ear. Perhaps she'd found her soulmate. And wow, she didn't even have to look very hard. There were some doubts lying with her, recalling the deep blue coat of Raven-Blue, recalling his hesitant smiles. Surely such a sad wolf wasn't her lifemate...was he? She wasn't sure. She wouldn't rule it out.
Nevertheless, it made her happy.

With the flag held so high, it was strange that it was not the strange orange, bronze, and red markings upon the adolescent that caught Merrill's eye, no, it was the subtle splotches of light purple upon the youth's flank that made her gaze twitch towards the happily walking teen. It reminded her vaguely of the sickness and, for a moment, she shuddered inwardly. Nevertheless, this was the first face she had seen in a while, and she wasn't sure how likely it would be to find another light-hearted face in these parts of the land. Thus with an erect head she began to pad over to the grinning wolf, her movements sturdy as though they were too used to rocky terrain rather than flat plain. "Don't mean to be a bother," Merrill began, "but a gal could use some directions here if you don't mind."

It was the scent of fresh water which Chiv had been following for the last little while, her paws carried her steadily down the game trail towards it promising scent. humming tunelessly to herself as she rounded a corner and burst from the brush to slow suddenly.
Before her were two wolves one a vibrant violet hued femme the other a wildly patterned adolescent. Ear's pricked she wagged a friendly greeting and hoped that she would be well recieved. Really all she wanted was a drink of water - casting her mind backwards she tried to recall seeing any signs of a pack in the area...no, no she was fairly certain she'd not wandered through a boundry line by accident.
And upon closer inspection it looked as though these two did not know each other well. Wanderer's like her perhaps?

Krigger paused in mid-step as something caught her eye. Pale green orbs flashed back and forth, settling on the violet and blue female that was quickly making her way towards her. Krigger's tail wavered, slowing its rythym and her ears flicked back uncertainly.
This wolf was obviously a beta; she carried herself with poise and beauty, though her tail stayed low. Krig's head tilted to one side as she spoke up, a smile reappearing on her maw. Directions? "Hi. I'm not sure if I'm the one to ask or not... I'm not from around here. I'm just scouting. I'm Kriggertarpok. Who're you?"
She closed her maw just as another wolf with a brown and black pelt padded up with a smile and offered her greetings. Krig let her tail wag once. "Hiya."

Her ears tilted towards the third voice with brief curiosity, and the mountain-dweller shifted herself subtly so that she could view both of these wolfs at once. "Hullo there," she replied, to the other adult before addressing this . . . What was her name again? Krigerawhat? Kringa? Pok? Pok could work. How horrible she was with names longer than two syllables, and even then those were trouble! "Well, Pok, Brown Tears, you may call me Merrill. Come down from the mountains a short time ago. Coudl say I'm scouting about as well, eh? Well y'don't have t ogive me directions, either of ya, but if there's packs I ought to aviod around this area it'd be nice to know."

Chivosi was pleased to find both wolves seemed to be of pleasant disposition, though she had failed to catch younger wolf introduce herself she deduced her name must be Pok by the others welcome and that apparantly all three were relative newcomers to the area.
"Pok, Merril"
She greeted with a slight bob of her head, eyes flicking through the underbrush for few moments before returning to her present company.
"I'm Chivosi, can't really say much about the packs in the area, have only met the Alpha of one, Gommorah Pack? something like that. Perhaps young Pok can advise us both"

Krigger gave a giggle, her body shaking for a moment at the nickname. Krigger, yeah. Krigs and Kriggy? Yeah, by her sister. But never Pok. It amused it. Pok. Pok, Pok, Pok... "That's cute," she chuckled, looking between the purple wolfess and the brown one. Telk sure had a variety of wolves, huh?
Krigger's ears swiveled up. Mountains? She'd always wanted to go, but... "What are the mountains like?" she swooned, scootching closer to the violet wolf.
However, she straightened as she realized that both females were awaiting her reply. They were seeking guidance from the young female. She looked between them. Packs? Sure, she'd heard of a few...
She took a deep breath. "I'm of Broken Shore. My pack is peaceful. My friend Raven belongs to Agua Azul, but he didn't seem too fond of it... Never heard of Gomorrah. But the Reign Of Terror...that's a pack to fear..." She shivered slightly.

"Reign of Terror? Never heard of it," the purple wolfess replied briskly, easily shrugging off the name for now; overcompensating for something, no doubt. Actually, none of these names sheh ad heard of; maybe the mountains were too high and beyond the reach of these strangers. Sad. Packs didn't often mingle up in the snow-covered lands, and it would have made things so much easier before that nasty plague . . . But here Pok was, going on and asking about it? Though there were some more lovely tales to tell than the massive death tolls, Merrill was not inclined to speak of her now past-life, and so her answer was brief enough: "Utterly cold and desolate. Perfect place to think if you can handle the terrain and the isolation." There was a level of fondness in her tone detectable.
"What else was it? Broken Shore, Agua Azul, Gomorrah . . . Seems this place is very populated." The beta wondered exactly how many wolves called the land home. "What's the deal with this Reign of Terror, though?"

Chivosi sank to her haunches as the young wolf began to speak, she'd heard of none of these packs - though that was hardly surprising given the lack of company she'd been keeping lately. she licked her lips in a nervous gesture as Pok spoke of this Reign of Terror pack, not only was thier name forbiding enough but her shiver told Chiv that it was probably wise to keep her distence.
Merrill however did not seem worried at all by the thought and Chiv subconsciously shifted herself a half inch closer to the more dominant female.
"I've met far more wanderer's in this land then in any other I've crossed, judging by that I'd have to agree, but it is good land for wolves so it's not entirely surprising"
She commented softly looking out over the brush and river a way's off for a few moments before turning back to listen to Pok's answer it would be smart to gather as much information as possible if she wished to stay in he area for a goodly length of time.

Krigger's tail began to wag. The mountains, oh how they sounded lovely. The purple she-wolf seemed fond of them, deep down, even as she spoke their truths. Cold and desolate...
"Yes. And Akiiki Chibale." Possum had spoken highly of the alphas there, as well as the family atmosphere. "There are several other packs as well, that I've only smelled." She paused, looking between the two wolves.
"The Reign of Terror is a pack of wolves that consider themselves Lords and Ladies of the darkness... They serve a great horned king and keep slaves. If your pack doesn't offer them tribute, they'll take it...and it usually ends up with destruction..."

How queer: lords and ladies of what now? Merrill's mind was not big on metaphors, usually banking upon the literal interpretation of a wolf's words, and thus what Pok was telling them made little sense. How could any living creature consider himself or herself a lord or lady of anything for that matter? As if they could control something intangible like light or shadow. Mayhaps something was in the water near that region . . .
"Good for wanderers and packs you say," Merrill commented with a slight nod towards Pok and Chiv . . . Chiv-what again? Something with an 's' at the end. Si would work; easier to say than Brown Tears. "Well I thank you, Pok, Si. Now the last bit of time I'll waste is asking where one can nestle between the nicer packs for now; doubt anyone'll be wanting a beta from seemingly nowhere just yet."

Chiv flicked an ear at Pok's explanation - never had she heard of a pack doing such things, it was...well nasty business at best and downright unnatural at worst. Best to give such creatures a wide berth she thought to herself wouldn't do to wind up a slave in such a pack. She shuddered slightly, the thought alone was enough to make her hair stand on end.
Jarred from her thoughts by Merrill's last question Chiv found herself somewhat amused by the nickname Si, it was unique to say the least but she wasn't going to complain about it, it was nice enough just to have someone to talk to for a few moments after all.
"I've been staying in an abandoned den back in the woods there"
She tossed her head back the way she had arrived.
"A nice wolf showed it to me a few day's ago, abandoned but dry and safe enough that I've found...your welcome to stay there as well if you'd like...I don't know how long i'll be in the area and I'd like to pass on a good deed from another"

"Yes," Krigg replied easily, plopping her rump on the ground with a heavy wag of her tail. She was glad that the she-wolves weren't asking her much more about ROT; that was a pack she'd rather not speak of, incase of mercenaries...or something. She shuddered slightly again, returning her gaze to Merrill. "Head to Akiiki Chibale... Alas, the alpha, is kind and gentle. She will know what to do with you..." She couldn't assure the wolfess that Alas would accept a beta, but it was a start, right?
She gazed over at Chivosi, surprised by the dark wolf's offer of a den. Krigger smiled. "Such hospitality!" she squeaked happily. "I'm sure Chivosi would be a lovely roommate," she said to Merrill.

Akiiki Chibale and Alas - she committed it to memory as best she could, though the strange pack name would easily escape her soon enough. Merrill turned her gaze upon the other adult with a nod. "I think I might take you up on that offer after a meal, Si. Mayhaps we can both make due towards that . . . that pack place tomorrow or so? Unless it's not far away. Kiiki doesn't sound half-bad, though the mountain spirits know I'm not very good with socialbility. Talk my head off with orders, yes, keep a wolf in line, sure, stay loyal, of course, but chit-chat's not my specialty. So, Pok," the beta began to ask, turning her head back towards the adolescent, "just point us in the right direction of that pack and we'll shove off for now. I have a hunkering for some meat."
