Keshet moved quietly through the evening fields on patrol. Well, technically speaking, he was taking a break to do some quick hunting, since he didn't eat plants like most of the rest of the herd. His dark ear twitched at the sound of scampering, and with a quick leap, he pinned a young squirrel to the ground. He was aware that he and his brother Temper were what were called pryrin, whereas the rest of the herd were what was called sylrin, meaning their diet was different. He knew it disturbed the herd to hunt and eat meat, so he usually ate on patrol, so he didn't upset anyone, least of all the mares in his herd, like his mother and his sister.

He ate quickly, ignoring the fur, not really taking the time to savor the meat. He needed to hurry, and savoring his meal, especially when he was this hungry, was simply not an option, especially when his sister Ashia would be catching up to him soon so they could continue their patrol. Finishing, he carefully buried the bones near the tree's roots. For this, he could afford to be slower and more careful. There was a stream by the tree, and when he finished, he splashed around a bit, to wash any bloodstains from his coat, scales, and feathered, cloven hooves. They would just disturb Ashia unnecessarily. Finishing that, he stepped out and shook himself, the water droplets sparkling in the light of the first shy stars of evening.

She was indeed a bit slower then her brother, she had an idea on why he had picked up his pace to be a head of her. Shaking her gray toned head, she kept the pace she was taking. Weaving down the path, picking up her brother's trail and coming upon him just as he was shaking the water from his body. Staggering back a moment she caught a few drops in the face.

"Hey now, I've already had one bath. Do I need another one?" She asked giggling as she joined her brother by the stream, her head lowering ro get a drink.

Ashia didn't really 'mind' that her brothers didn't eat the same as the rest of the herd. Though the sight of blood did effect her stomach a bit making it a little queasy at best. Lifting her head back upright, she looked at her dark brother, a smile still plastered upon her face. Shaking out her own scaled coat, bright yellow eyes looked about the dark field. They were on patrol, but it just seemed like a leisurely stroll to her. A time to be with her brother and no one else.

"So... What do you like if Wystan and I did happen to decide to mate?" She asked openly, knowing that her brother had accepted her foalhood friend, but wanted to really know. To know what he thought about it all between them.

Keshet smiled at his silvery sister. "Of course you need another one, so you look nice and shiny-clean for that Wystan of yours." It had taken a long time to get to the point where he could accept Wystan, but he could tell that Wystan genuinely loved Keshet's sweet sister, and would never want to see her hurt or heartbroken, but as the overprotective brother he was inside, he sobered up at the mention of a stallion so close to his sister. "How would I feel? Well, he seems the genuinely loving type. Do you love him back, Ashia? If you do, I have absolutely no real, worthwhile objections to Wystan, aside from the natural ingrained belief that no stallion is good enough for my sister," he added with a grin. "Honestly, he loves you with all his heart, he's willing to do what he can for you, thus, I've no reasonable objections to him; I just want to see you happy."

He paused. "Have I introduced you to Chione yet?" He couldn't wait to see the beautiful Aririn again. He felt ready to ask her to join their herd. He knew some of the family would have to leave soon, but he was going to stay, to help his father, and he wanted Chione beside him.

Ashia laughed at her brother, shaking again, feeling like she still had water on her face, the shiver traveling down her back and out her tail. What else had made her laugh was that Kesh had asked her other questions if she loved Wystan and things like that. Well, she had asked for it and he had given it to her something to talk about. If it hadn't been progressing to darkness, he would have seen her face darken as a very deep blush over came her face. Well, she did have feelings for Wystan, he was her friend and had been since she could remember. Ears fliking themselves back, she could hear her own heart fluttered against her ribs, certainly loud enough for her brother to hear.

"Well, of course I care about him, he was my first friend outside the herd..." She started turning her head away for a moment. Not quite sure how she felt towards him... "Wystan is a charming male..." Was she avoiding the questions, she could feel her face getting warmer and warmer until it felt like the sun was beating down upon it and her cheeks were glowing. "If I tell you, you won't tell anyone will you?" She asked stepping closer to her brother, pressing her face, still very warm that the heat could very well have been raising off it. "Will you? Because I don't want Wystan to know just yet, even though I'm sure he can guess." Ashia backed away from Keshet giving a bit of breathing room. "I do love him, had a crush on him when I was younger, smaller. He was always fun to be around, and wanting to please both me and to make sure you and our brothers wouldn't come down upon him if something happened to happen."

Turning her head away, her heart pounding even hearder thinking of Wystan, wondering how he was doing and if she would see him soon. She missed her winged friend and felt that when growth came other feelings, feelings that she wasn't quite understanding. She didn't know why her heart pounded so when she thought is Wystan, or why her felt all cozy when she had been with him... That she knew was a crush of course, young love, but now that she was a young mare, she didn't understand, perhaps her mother or Kesh could help her understand it all. Ears flicking backwards a moment she soon looked back at her brother as he mentioned introducing her to another that he knew. Come to think of it, she didn't know that her brother had any friends, besides the strange filly he had been known to chew on and hang around. Was that the same one he was speaking of now?

"No, I don't think you have..." She frowned, forcing her feelings to recollect themselves to be more... Sensible. "Chione wouldn't happen to be the same filly you were always hanging around a while ago... Is it? I remember you hanging around someone, but never knew her name." Tilting her head, Ashia looked around agan, it was certainly getting dark and they would be due back to the herd soon before their father or someone else came out to find them and demand what was happening. "Er., Keshy, we should keep moving before we're in trouble for being lat back to the herd."

Keshet grinned. "You do like him. Ashia, he's had a crush on you since you were foals, too, so it's only fair you talk to him about it. If you wait too long, he might give up, thinking you have someone else." He could definitely tell that both had loved each other for quite a long time.

"Yeah, Chione was the filly I hung around." He glanced up at the starry sky. "We'll get going in a moment, I just had a suggestion to make. I was going to ask Dad if the two of us could go on an extended patrol, maybe find Wystan and Chione, hang out with them for a bit. I don't think Dad will mind, and since you'll be with me, you'll be perfectly safe. Sound interesting to you?" He smiled and started walking back toward the herd, slowly enough so that Ashia could catch up and keep up.

A blush over came her face as Ashia turned her head away from her brother. Did he honestly get what she did like him? Well, Keshy did have a lover of his own and surely he had things to watch out for as well. Shaking her head some she looked as Keshy had headed a head of her, kicking up some dust she headed after him. Catching up she walked a couple of paces behind.

"Well... Alright, but if he does mind when we get back, this is all your fault." Ashia poked Keshy's rear with her horn, "And I won't have any part of your punishment." Grins sheepishly at her brother. "But it would be cool to find Wystan and your girl to hang out, I wonder if they are around somewhere..."

Looking around, she stopped now and again before catching up to her brother again. She wondered if her Wystan was really about anywhere as they slowly walked back towards the herd. Stopping again, she looked around, before looking to her hooves, she didn't know how to tell Wystan that she did like him, she wasn't even sure that Keshy was even telling her the truth. He could have been fibbing to make her feel better, ears falling back some she didn't notice if Keshet stopped, or kept going, all she knew is that she wasn't moving at the moment.

Keshet grinned. "Of course I'll take the blame, but I honestly don't think Dad will mind, especially now that we're old enough for him to trust us on our own. Besides, Uncle Tuyet doesn't stay with the herd all the time, and Dad doesn't get mad." Chione...she'd be nearer the sea, and they weren't close enough to visit Wystan *and* Chione. Oh well. At any rate, if they could catch up to her, that would be the day she came with him, and he might as well give her a bit more time with her family. He'd promised Chione, and he wasn't the sort to go back on a promise.

It took him a bit to realize Ashia had stopped again, and he paused to look at her. Noting the sad c**k of her ears, he hurried back. "Ashia, what's wrong?" He couldn't remember seeing her look so sad and worried before, and the very fact worried him, too.
