The ball was starting up cosily by now, things were going quite alright...

And then, the duke made a short announcement, calling four, five people out of the versatile group and requesting them to come out into the entrance hall and go into the (off limits!) left wing.

The staff and guards would let them pass, lead them to a cosy small assembly of couches and chairs out in the hallway, where they would wait.

Dreamer (Tnau)
Ella (with/without Faolan) (Redbud)
Eli (umbra)
Dr. Cromwell (Ruri)
Verdant (?) (LLWinter)

Miss Sanders was called in next, after miss Eversong was released from the Duke's business room. Feel free to take your romeo with you, milady. Please enter, close the door and have a seat in front of the desk.

Now tell me, tell me, what is it you seek?

Ellandra looked around the room curiously - and a bit warily - as she was called in and took her seat. She knew what she was being taken in here for, now - it was as clear as day to the brunette. Still, she couldn't shake a feeling of nervousness. She wanted this all to go well, and was half-afraid she'd mess things up somehow. Well, at least she had a clear idea of what she needed: Something that woud help her work through her issues and her phobias, help her to become a stronger person. . . a better wife for Faolan. . . a good mother for their unborn baby. She didn't think she could manage all of that without some support, and Faolan had enough to worry about already.

So yes, she knew what she needed; she just didn't know quite how fulfulling that need would happen. Despite her lingering nervousness, the barest, tiniest bit of excitement had started to well up within her. A dear, sweet little one, like Zia, like Misha, like Aria, like Lauss, all to help her and for her to care for in return. It was a lovely thought, very lovely, though it didn't quite seem real, somehow. She supposed that would change shortly, however.

She just hopd that once everything was wrapped up here and she found her husband again, that he hadn't managed to become stupid with drink. She knew what alcohol did to the most mild-mannered and restrained of people, and Faolan was far from that description. Maybe Ziazan could rein him in a little? If not. . . well, damage control would probably be needed.

. . . But that wasn't important for the moment. In a short time it would be, but for now. . . there were other things to worry and wonder about.

"Ah.... sweet miss Sanders... or Grady, from now on?" Banning greeted her, with a quite pleasant smile. The hawkish-predatorial edge had found its way back into his gaze though, this was business.

Having stood up from his seat, he wandered around the desk, closer to her to try and make the atmosphere slightly less formal.

"I assume you have a rather accurate idea of what I called you in here for?"
Especially after Dreamer.

"I am repeating my offer to you, and this time, if you have made up your mind, we can seal the deal properly. No legal ties involved, merely you, me and my staff, and... your companion-to-be." Yes, you know what I mean, hmm. His look mellowed a little, smoothing out that sharp 'out to get you' gleam, to show he meant her no harm, was laying no traps for her.

Ellandra smiled back, a timid, but overall pleasant smile. "I . . . suppose it - it would depend on whether you recognized Farstep's traditions, or the legal paperwork as to what you would call me," she said quietly, running her hand lightly over the ribbon she still wore from the handfasting ceremony. She blinked up at the duke, a little nervously but certain all the same, and nodded.

"I suspected when we were all called aside," she said quietly, just beginning to relax a little. "But of course it became obvious when Miss Eversong left..." Ellandra trailed off for a moment to gather her thoughts together - and stop her hands from shaking, why were they shaking? She wasn't afraid anymore, not really, no, no. . .

Was this just excitement? She wasn't sure.

"As... to the important things; then yes. I was. . . actually intending to come by the shop wh-when I could but, it seems things have worked out without that step."

"Ah, traditions and legal value... With all cultures Drente is familiar, and unfamiliar with, the government would be crazy to attempt to force a certain procedure onto everyone. Unless you're concerned about the tax impact, there is no need to worry... If you want me to I could always pitch in and get you two a license to kiss in public, of course."

He HAD meant to say 'legally married in the registres', but somehow that came out a little more playful than intended. Oh dear... He coughed into his hand slightly to cover for a slight blush, and went back to business.

"... my apologies. So you say you are... ready to take this step? I'm sure you are awaye of the main Spark groups... and I happen to have a cosy little Social Spark here that might suit you."

Hey, that's against your own protocol duke! First comes contracting, THEN the showing.

"Would you like to see?"

Ellandra shook her head a little. "Thank you; but I think it might be. . . disrespectful, somewhat of a way of saying that Farstep's ceremony was less important than a piece of paper.... Though I would like to see about legally changing my last name, at least," she said quietly, a soft, dreamy smile on her face.

When Banning asked if she was ready, she nodded, and when he mentioned the spark - a social? Wasn't that like dear little Aria? -, she nearly jumped out of her seat.

"Oh, I've been ready for some time now," she admitted with a tiny, sheepish blush. "And I would love to, if it's. . . not something that would cause you problems so soon."

Surely there was some paperwork or something to sign first, yes? It wasn't like such a professional man to not have that little detail, illegal operation or no.

"Never meant to make it sound like I thought any less of its traditions, but Vargash laws are nitpicky like that." Tsk, god knows how often he'd rolled his eyes at the little details and the fine print. "If you ever need someone who knows which buttons to push..." I'm my own lawyer, heh.

When she jolted a little when he continued, he smiled. Precious young lady.

"When going through the procedure to grant our customers a spark, we usually let them sign a contract with us. No legal ties, merely a token handshake to seal the deal. A sign of mutual trust. If you choose to sign, I shall go get you your Spark." he explained to her, ducking down rather unceremoniously under his desk to fetch one of the parchment documents. Placing a pen beside it, one of his fine ornate ink pens, he let her read it over in all serenity. No fine print on these babies, Isis forbid.

A Spark and our assistance, in exchange for your trust and discretion. Not too shabby a deal, actually.

Ellandra smiled - a warm, open smile, without a hint of nervousness. Oh, how married life had changed her - or perhaps it was impending mommyhood? Either way, she flt strangely at ease in this situation. "Thank you, Banning," she said, and leafed over the paperwork, reading through the details quickly.

She was a fast reader, it helped when she had to read her own manuscripts over and over, or when she was slaving away over Keagan's attempts at bookkeeping while he read the paper or filled her ears with child-stories about Faolan. In no time at all she'd finished it, signed on the dotted line in her pretty, if slightly hurried, scripty signature and looked up at Banning.

She felt like a small child being told that "yes, sweetie, you're getting that pony for your birthday that you wanted, only better - you're getting a UNICORN!"

Was it safe to say that she was a bit excited?

"No trouble at all..." Stop it, woman, you're making me even mushier than Dreamer did earlier.

"There you go, all done. Just a moment, lass." Sliiide, and into the hidden door-panel. Mere moments later he poked out again, holding what looked like a lushly decorated golden miniature chest in his hands. He set it down on the desk carefully, and clicked the delicately encrypted lid open for her.

On a soft burgundy cushion with golden tassles lay the Spark, wispy sky-blue Essence drifting up from its focal point like freshly awakened spirits, or oddly tangible smoke. Quite an odd one this was, with its odd shape and decidedly unnatural, almost artistic colour-shifts and rifting lines.

"If your husband ever told you about how he and Ziazan bonded, you will know what to do..."
Banning smiled at her gently.

Ellandra gasped softly as the spark was unveiled before her. Faolan hadn't told her anything about his bonding to Ziazan, but somehow. . . she thought she would do all right. "It's beautiful..." she said quietly, breathily, reaching into the box and taking the spark into her hands.

It was nothing like what she'd thought it might feel like, all silky-smooth like a polished, shining gem, or a slipper covered in tight satin more than a simple rock, with such lovely, eerie designs. . . she cradled it to her chest, and felt a gentle prodding, a need, but no real words. She understood, though.

Words weren't needed.

So she simply thought, feeling, letting her mind focus on her need to have guidance to see her through her fears, to help her embrace her strengths, to give her that little push to get past her reluctances... a guide, a mentor...

There was a soft. . . . fluttery feeling, not physical, but an airy little feeling of acceptance, and an almost-not-quite-worded echo: 'Guide...... Mentor....'

Somehow, Ellandra knew it had been done.

Good girl, everything's fine now. Good job.

Shaking off that odd daze that had come over him watching her, the duke started to calmly roll up her Contract, sealed it and stowed it away safely.

"I guess that is that, then. It belongs to you now, in all senses of the word. This one's even more premanant than marriage, milady, I assure you. May your bond with Faolan remain just as strong."
With that wish for the future, he shook her hand firmly, yet gently, and let her out of his Office, after giving her the little treasure-chest to hold the Spark safe in.

"If you would please ask mister Galvao in next? The man with the dog, incase you haven't met yet."

Ellandra nodded distantly, caught up in a little bit of a dreamy daze herself as she carefully placed the spark - her spark! - back into its resting place. It would be safer there than tossed about in her hands, the lovely thing. "Thank you, Banning," she said quietly, a true, warm smile spreading across her face as she left the office behind her, and informed Mr. Galvao that he needed to go back now.
