(Hurrah x3)

Marzi sighed softly. His feet moved in a mechanical motion, carrying him to the very outskirts of his parents territory. Parents... he was at that time in life where he was no longer a pup, growing like a tree, and wondering what role parents played in an adult wolf's life. Though, he did still have a little ways to go before he was a full fledged adult, the ponderings that plagued his mind were quite mature for his age. He wondered if his father had had these same thoughts, the two of them being so much alike. Black paws came silently into contact with the ground as the rather large, furry beast moved along in the tall grasses of the small field outside the thicket that encased the river. He wondered what life outside of his family was like. Not many wandered by here, as he thought they often might. He sighed softly, coming to rest on a rock protruding from the tall, thick grasses. His crimson eyes scanned the field of tawny. It's probably because my coat isn't the most attractive. It's big and thick and the patterns are really quite singular. He let out a small sigh, searching for a sign of life bigger than a field mouse.

Teenage rebelion. Hurray. It seems Ran was the only of her four siblings to go through it, but perhaps because they'd always been different than she was when it came to most cases.

It was only yesterday she'd decide, among the company of two other wolves she now considered friends, she could very well strike out on her on, and be sucessful at it.

Maybe she was THAT stupid.

Grrr. Ran made a face, rolling over onto her back and leering at her stomach. "Ran doesn't like that noise, so you stop it," she willed grumpily. Mama had always caught everything for her. So, earlier, when she'd tried to catch a deer on her own, she'd learned an important lesson: Deers can kick.

Did everyone know they could do that?! The thing had sent her flying, too! Mind you, she was a runt and half another wolves size, so it wasn't all that surprising. Still, though...

Seeming pleased when her stomach was silent for a decent amount of time, only then did she roll over and notice the other. Way out here? Odd. "Hm..."

Soft murmurings carried to the male's ears on the slight autumn breeze. Female. He tilted his black-masked face upward, scenting the air. Hmmm... different. Rising to his feet on the rock, he spotted a dual hued form laying in the tall grass. She.... she actually bore markings similar to his own. How peculiar... Clearing his mind of stray thoughts, he leapt down from the rock, landing silently like a cat. His tail was high, but not past his back, and swinging freely in docile motion. He came within a few wolf's lengths of the female, noting her size in comparison to his own. Rather small, indeed, though that was never a bad thing. She reminded him somewhat of his sister, Lia. Interesting... "Hello... I don't believe I've seen you around here before... Lost?" He cocked his head slightly to one side as he asked, trying to appear as unmenacing as possible. He didn't want to chase this potential playmate away.

Lost? What a silly wolf. He'd have to try a lot harder if he wanted to guess her name! "No, Ran," she corrected. "Ran is Ran, who are you?" Briefly, her gaze tore away from him. Just long enough to eye her surroundings throughly for the first time. "Ran hasn't been here before," she said thoughtfully, half to herself. "So, that's why you haven't seen Ran here."

He frowned slightly for a moment, before realizing her confusion. He chuckled softly, overlooking the slight misinterpretation of his words. Maybe she just didn't understand what he meant... she did have a rather peculiar way of speaking. She seemed very... somewhere else. He thought on that a moment before answering in a soft tone. "Oh, I see. Very nice to meet you, Ran. I'm Marzi.... and yes, if you haven't been here before that must be why I haven't seen you." He watched his words carefully, looking for a better way to size this she-wolf up.

"Alright then," she offered cheerfully. Seeming to determine the conversation had ended, she rolled back over and gazed up at the sky, head turning at an awkward angle. Hm. Clouds. Boring.

Marzi tilted his head to the side, watching as Ran rolled over onto her back and looked up at the sky. What was she looking at? Shrugging his rather broadening shoulders, he slumped down to his stomach, then rolled over next to her, staring up at the clouds. Hmmm... interesting.

Honestly, Ran was a tad surprised. Normally, others took that as some form of que and went away. Not to say she was annoyed by it. Though, Ran never really got annoyed by much now did she? With a mental shrug, she eyed the clouds thoughtfully.

Bird...

Bird...

Bird...

Oh, wait, those were birds. Her nose scrunched up upon her discovery. The clouds just looked like... clouds.

Cocking his head to the side he identified familiar shapes in the clouds, like trout from the river and wolves at play. After a short while of silence, he turned his head so that he could see Ran. "What are we looking at?"
PostPosted: Mon Nov 07, 2005 7:15 pm

And they said she was slow. "Clouds," answered Ran, as if the answer should've been obvious. To her, it should've. Didn't all wolves watch clouds? Er, no, they couldn't have. She knew her brothers and sister, and at least her mother (probably her father) didn't.

"They don't look like anything today." A bit dissapointing. If she squinted her eyes she could make out a butterfly. Ran was always known for having those creatures on her mind, so no shock factor there. "Except clouds, Ran means."

He glanced back up at the clouds, shifting closer to her as if to see more from her perspective. He raised a paw toward a particulary fluffy cloud. "That one looks like me after I go swimming." He suggested, as if to make her feel better. She seemed somewhat disappointed that they didn't really look like anything... and the fuzzy cloud did resemble himself.

"Oh." She was never one to argue. Besides, she'd never seen him after he went swimming, so who was she to say it didn't? "Why are you out here alone? Ran was never alone when Ran was so small." That wasn't quite true, considering all those times she'd taken off. A more accurate saying would've been she wasn't suppose to be alone. Perhaps the case here was the same?

He pondered her question for a minute or two, staring thoughtfully heavenward. "I'm by myself a lot, now." He answered simply. It was the truth, he really didn't do a lot with his family anymore. He was learning to be independent, so he took his time alone and used it wisely. "And the den isn't all that far from here, so I can't really get into trouble."

"You should be careful." More so if he had parents and siblings. Most pups she'd seen were orphaned, alone, and didn't have option to be that way. "When Ran was as young she went off alone a lot, too, and a big wolf came and took her away from Mama and Papa and her brothers and sister." Her expression became sour and she shifted a little. Bah, bad memories.

"You must look like your Mama and Papa," she said suddenly. "Ran is Mama and Papa put together. Ran's brother looks like Mama, and her sister like Papa, and her other brother like Mama's brother and Mama."

He sighed softly, tucking his ebony paws to his chest. He thought about that for a moment. His father bore black fur and red eyes, and his mother cream and light eyes. He knew nothing could happen to him here, and so he puffed up, much like an owl settling down for a nap before replying. "My father is black with red eyes, and my mother is tawny with darker brown and whispy eyes. My sister is more like my father, and my older sister is like neither. I suppose I am more closely colored like my mother, but I'd say it's a pretty even mix... " His crimson eyes swept over Ran in a swift motion, taking in the characteristics of her pelt. If he saw a wolf bearing such marks, he'd know they were related. A small bemused smile tickled his lips in thinking about how life went on, and wolves found eachother and made more wolves that looked like blends between mother and father, and so on and so-forth until completely new things were created by stray genes and centuries of mixing blood. His eyes then focussed back into the clouds, where cirrus whisps like horse tails raced high above, the larger puffy clouds being blown away by the breeze in his eyes absence.
