RP between:

Hu Rong Wei (Rown)
and

Hazeline Lee and possibly Xiu (Rapid)
PostPosted: Sat May 23, 2009 7:54 pm

Hazeline gave the clock a small in café a glance. It was close to twelve o’clock in the afternoon and if everything went as planned, close to the appointed time where Hu Rong Wei; a potential tutor was due to arrive. Hazeline fingered her purse absently before finally pulling out a small cut out of a newspaper.

It read…

Looking for a Chinese language tutor for a willing but special student. For more information, please call….

Hazeline smiled. Xiu hadn’t been too pleased with the term ‘special student’ but had grudgingly agreed as it would have exceeded the allocated number of words otherwise.

Rong Wei glanced at her watch as she strolled down towards the cafe, her pace quick despite the fact she wasn't late. She wasn't going to be early either if her usually manner had anything to do with it but since this was a chance for a part-time job that could help bring in some extra cash she felt like being punctual.

Seeing an add in the paper for a Chinese tutor was almost like a lucky strike for the woman considering she was bored and in need of money for the parlors which she'd been avoiding out of poorness. Since Chinese was also her first language and the one she spoke best, contrary to popular belief, she figured getting the job would be easy as well. Special or not she could handle a kid or adult that wanted to learn. Spartan style was still legal, right?

Her boots clicked on the pavement as Rong Wei rounded the corner and made her way towards the little cafe, a cigarette being pulled from her pocket and placed on her lips. With one motions she lit the tip and inhaled, the taste of nicotine calming her nerves. Not that she was nervous.

About a minute or so to twelve, the door of the little café opened and Hazeline turned to face the newcomer wondering if this was the person who had answered the add. Standing up, Hazeline let out a small smile and nodded in Rong Wei’s direction. “You are Rong Wei perhaps?”

Hazeline had also noticed that the other Chinese woman was smoking and that made Hazeline frown inwardly. The plant researcher wasn’t too fond of people who smoke but perhaps they could get around to that problem later if this person was indeed Rong Wei.

Rong Wei looked up as an unknown voice heralded her name, her brow pinched down with irritation at being addressed by someone she hadn't even seen yet, but she dropped the cigarette to the ground before crushing it out with her foot. As she bent to pick up the butt and deposit in the trash she nodded her head that she was indeed...though it would be pretty hard placed to think someone else to be Rong Wei. After all there weren't many Chinese people wandering around the area at the moment, let alone any other female ones.

No, stop it. We're here for a job and not to be judgmental.

Almost immediately the eyebrows moved back upward and her usually dour expression changed into one of professional courtesy, and Rong Wei did her best not to say anything as she made her way towards the only person in the room who probably would have called out to her with anything specific in mind. She folded her hands politely as the side of the table came into contact with her hip, and she bowed her head downward.

"My name is Hu Rong Wei. I believe you've placed in ad in the paper for a Chinese tutor?"

This wasn't like her at all. This was probably a huge mistake.

“Why, yes, yes, I have,” said Hazeline feeling a bit unused to all this head bowing but returning a rather clumsy one all the same. “I’m glad to meet you, Ms. Hu,”

“And yes, with regards to the tutoring,” said Hazeline glad to be on track once again. “I am looking for a capable tutor for a…charge of mine,” said Hazeline for want of a better word. “He’s rather young but I think that that wouldn’t be too much of a trouble. He’s proven to be a rather capable student,”

“However, he isn’t exactly what you’d consider as a human,” continued Hazeline getting to the rather difficult bit of the interview. “He looks humanoid enough but he’s what we’d term as a raevan. Have you heard of them, Ms.Hu? I have a picture of him. Here, his name’s Xiu by the way,” said Hazeline handing over a photograph to Rong Wei. “He’s a pleasant enough lad,”

The conversation however was interrupted when a waiter emerged and asked for their orders. Nodding absently, Hazeline pointed to something on the menu and ordered a yoghurt shake. The waiter nodded and turned to Rong Wei, pen poised and ready to take the lady’s order.

Rong Wei took a seat when it was indicated that she could and should, her frame taking up the small chairs that the cafe offered with a protest, though she ignored how she felt and promptly continued to smile as this young woman spoke to her without even giving a name. It made Rong Wei question her upbringing if she was so rude to ask for someone else's identity before giving her own, but then again pretty much everyone that wasn't Rong Wei made the woman question them.

She was just judgmental like that.

"His name is Xiu?" Where the hell had she heard that name before?

When the picture was given to Rong Wei the Chinese woman clearly blanched, her face turning two shades of white that could rival the tablecloth that graced the space before her, and the color stayed faded for a moment or two until the waiter appeared and brought a bit of reality back into the situation. She bit her lower lip and quickly glanced down at the menu before her, unaware she hadn't seen it until this point, and she quickly ordered a milk tea in a voice that was hardly more then a grunt.

The waiter departed quickly and Rong Wei turned back to look at Hazeline, a frown taking the place of the professional smile she'd been trying to hard to keep through all of this.

"I've already met your kid, this Xiu. I thought he was a pretty bad side effect from an all-nighter."

“Y-You have?” asked Hazeline disbelievingly. “Xiu has never told me about it! Or perhaps he did…,” said Hazeline frowning a little. The white raevan was prone to making friends with the odd human or two but faceless names were never something Hazeline could remember well. But regardless, this no doubt made things a little easier for the both of them.

“Well, since you have met him, what do you think? Rong Wei?” Hazeline asked cautiously; not wanting to seem too desperate. “I mean, besides thinking that he is a side effect from an all-lnighter.”

The waiter then returned with the ordered drinks and a plate of sandwiches. Thanking the waiter, Hazeline took the plate of assorted sandwiches and offered them to Rong Wei. “Please, help yourself,” said Hazeline quietly as though afraid of jinxing the chances of securing a tutor for Xiu.

"What did I think about him? For one, he didn't beat around the bush in telling me what he thought about me, which is something that I like in a person - thing - whatever the hell he is. Secondly, I'm still not convinced he's real and am pretty sure you're either trying to pull a prank over on me because I owe you or someone you know money."

Not one to pass up food when offered even if it wasn't the fare she normally ate, Rong Wei took one of the sandwiches and stuffed it into her mouth, taking the literal remark of 'bite size' to the fullest. She still ate with some manners, not chewing with her mouth open or smacking as she swallowed, and it seemed as soon as food passed her mouth her mouth fluctuated a little as well.

I'm here for a job. Stop being stupid until after you get it.

"As much as I would like to believe I had never seen him, to be honest he was not that surprising. He seemed like he'd be a hard worker since he cared about what I had to say and showed an interest in learning something new. I take it you're wanting him to learn Chinese from me for a reason, is it because you can't speak it?"

“I see,” said Hazeline, nodding as Rong Wei described the white frei. Perhaps…this might just work out after all thought Hazeline hopefully.

At Rong Wei’s next question however, the Chinese woman was sheepish. “Ummm…yes, I’m afraid I can’t,” said Hazeline as she laced her fingers together and eyed Rong Wei. “I grew up not learning Chinese I’m afraid. Although I think Xiu gets along with the English language well enough, I think…it would be good for Xiu to ummm…be a little more attuned to his…roots?” said Hazeline with a small laugh. “So you will take the job won’t you Rong Wei? I’m sure Xiu would be delighted to have you as a tutor,”

Saying so, Hazeline reached into her purse and brought out a name card. “Here’s my address and telephone number at any rate,” said Hazeline offering the card to Rong Wei.

"It's a shame you don't speak it. My parents basically refuse to let me speak English at home so as you can tell by me even responding to your add that I can certainly teach how to speak it. I can ever teach how to read and write it as there is no English literature in our house as well."

She didn't mention her stash of hidden books or movies, things her parents disliked because of their 'trashy images' and 'violent stereotypes', but since Rong Wei was also twenty-six she felt it was kind of stupid for her to have to hide things anyway. She mostly did it to knock away all the arguments that were sure to arise if her mother or father ever found anything.

"And yeah, I'll take your job. I've been needing a reason to speak Chinese more often outside of the house other then my job or running errands into Chinatown, so teaching a non-humanoid thing about its 'roots' seems like a good way to kill time."

Rong Wei took the card that was extended to her and held it between two of her fingers in the same manner she often held her cigarettes. Briefly her eyes flicked over to the name on it - Hazaline - and she still frowned that this kid hadn't even bothered to speak her name out loud. What kind of employer really did that? Ah well, it didn't matter. She needed a job that got her out of the house and away from the nagging.

"I've got a card as well, you can give me a call when you're ready for me to start coming over and teaching. I'm flexible in my hours since my main job is a family run business, and I can either go to your place or it can come to mine. I'm not overly picky."

"Thank you, Ms.Hu," said Hazeline taking the card. "Xiu shall start his lessons sometime this week then and well...it's a 'he' as far as I can tell," said Hazeline, not at all sure that Xiu would approve of being called an 'it'.

Seeing that the customers were done, the waiter quickly strode over with a bill and Hazeline took out the required amount of gaia gold and paid him.

"And thank you again Ms.Hu," said Hazeline with a smile as she watched the other Chinese lady prepared to leave.

And even then, Hazeline had forgotten that she had forgotten to introduce herself.
