Physical Description: Her eyes are a crisp seaweed green and her mouth is a long flexible line. The outline of her face is a smooth, lightly tanned oval broken by the slight outcropping of her high cheekbones. Black hair hangs just below her shoulders in straight strands, while the rest of her body holds more shape to it. She stands at 5’6 with wide, angular hips and a moderate bust. She usually likes to stand with a hand on her hip, which is skewed upward, and a jaunty look on her face.
Personality: She is a very cool customer aside from those jaunty expressions of hers. In her mind, she usually has more important things to do, more work to get done than justifies the expenditure of her time on idle talk. What few close friends she does have are all back home busy taking care of their families.
As a result of her distant nature she keeps her own counsel and sometimes comes off as an enigmatic, if not uptight character. About the only way she unwinds, aside from when with those close friends, is when plied with wine. Gossip, in her opinion, is a potentially dangerous pursuit and one she does not participate in outside of the confines of her few close friendships. When around boys, she is most given to rolling her eyes and walking quickly on her merry way. It is rare when a boy will stop her in her tracks, or cause the wheels in her head to pause and when she is around men she puts on a business face and manner. She might casually watch an attractive man, but does not make a habit of it lest she get caught. Girls get little of her earnest attention.
History: She was raised like an only child in and around Fort Hold. Her parents are both laid back bohemians. Weiwin’s mother is an artist, using whatever medium she can to express her artistic genius. This habit translated into many household utensils going missing throughout Weiwin’s childhood. To replenish things around the house, her mother sold and still sells her artwork at Gathers. Weiwin’s father has slightly more discipline than her mother, and is a Harper. He has done his wandering about Pern and is currently stationed in a minor hold outside of Fort Hold.
Weiwin judges all the males around her against the example her father has set. Such a detail is not that important given that most girls do the very same, however, coupled with her personality it helps to explain her high-handed treatment of the young males around her. That, and being exposed to Harper boys from a young age, she is in the know about their amorous games. Back to her father, he has been the understanding and wise force in her life, the very same who encouraged her wholeheartedly to go with the Search Rider when she was chosen not but a sevenday ago.
Her distant attitude developed over the turns she largely had charge of the house while her mother was busy creating her artwork. She had always been her mother’s little helper, especially since her father was busy traveling from Hold to Hold as prescribed by his Harperly duties. But, over the turns Weiwin moved up from Chief Hearth Sweep to bigger, and sometimes less messy chores. She had full command of her home by the time she was ten turns. Weiwin is no master of the kitchen, needle, or plow but she has enough knowledge to manage a home and what she does not know she can pick up quickly enough.
Being a Candidate at Ista Weyr is her only other option for a life beyond her parent’s home, aside from marrying. This fact has somewhat humbled her.
