Flowers were scattered amongst the grass, making the green dotted with many colors. Blues, reds, purples, yellows, and the winged mare took them all in as she gazed around. Nothing bothered this mare, her lost in her own world. Even the problems her family was going through didn't penetrate her thoughts. The only things she thought about as of late were butterflies, and the really nice stallion who had spent a long time with her one day.
As Del'nal stood and continued to gaze at the colors amongst the grass, she thought of that stallion, Hinote, wondering if she'd ever see him again. He knew of others that had wings like butterflies! And he promised that he would show her the magic of flying. Not that she could fly of course, but she could dream and pretend she could fly.
Just then, a beautiful butterfly that had been hiding amongst the flowers, revealed itself as it took to the sky. All thoughts of Hinote fled from her mind once she saw this lovely thing. "Butterfly! Wait for me!" she called out happily as she ran after it. Del would make this butterfly her friend!

Darkness. Darkness and shadows flowed steadily through Selena's mind. She was by no means a sad or depressed Soquili. She had no thoughts of killing or blood lust. These shadows were only occupying her mind because she had never experienced something others spoke of as 'happy thoughts'.
She wandered through the forest bordering the flowering field. She could hear bird song and little feet scurrying on the forest bed. She occasionally saw a hint of sunshine peering in from the great, leafy canopy above her, or a flip or colorful wings. But other than these sudden occurrences, she was enshrouded with grey darkness.
But she didn't mind. She let her thoughts wonder, her eyes unfocused, her body swaying with the wind. Suddenly, her ears perked up as she hear a sudden outburst. It was joyful, and happy. And it made Selena annoyed. She never understood why people were happy or screaming things like, "looks at the birds!" or, "Im so happy for you!". But there it was. Not 20 feet away from her.
Happiness.In the form of a dark shape.
Selena was confused. She could see the form was a soquili, a winged one at that, but weren't the happiest of soquili colorful?
What was wrong with this one? She stepped closer in curiosity.
"Come back Butterfly, lets be friends!" she heard the dark soquili say joyfully.
Selena cocked her head in utter astonishment. A winged soquili, and a black one at that, chasing after a butterfly. She was at a loss of words.
She paced even closer, her dark head emerging from the darkness into the warm sunshine. Selena watched the winged soquili. She noticed it jumping up, trying to catch the butterfly which was rising into the heavens.
What is she DOING? Selena asked herself. Can she not fly?
As she watched for awhile longer, it became clear. the soquili not far from her was either afraid to fly, or, unaware of the fact that she could.
Selena stepped into the burning light, away from the comforting darkness, leaned against a tree, and sneered.

Del chased after the butterfly, following it back and forth as it tried to evade her. "Come back pretty butterfly! I won't hurt you!" she called after it as she skipped about after it. As she chased after the butterfly, she was careful to not step on the flowers, so every so often she made an odd little leap when a hidden flower came into view.
The butterfly headed towards the trees, and the dark mare continued chasing after it. She failed to notice anyone around, until she nearly ran into them. Luckily for her she managed to look up and see another mare just mere inches from her. "Hi there!" Her voice rang out happily as she looked over the mare. "I'm sorry for nearly running into you, but I was chasing a butterfly. You're quite pretty. Do you like butterflies?" Del rambled, her voice still happy, the butterfly forgotten for the time being. Perhaps she'll go looking for it after she meets this new soquili. Perhaps this new friend will go chase the butterflies with her! Oh that was a nice thought.

Selena blinked at the dark mare. She had stepped a few feet back in shock of the near impact. This mare was quite a happy one. Selena surveyed her with her eyes, envying her wings.
Then she hears the mare's words. Both her apology and her compliment.
"Your quite pretty."
Selena is in shock. Not only did she never receive these kinds of compliments, but this mare had accepted her immediately. Most ran away, tripping over their feet, at the sight of her. For some reason this mare made Selena smile.
"Thank you, your very pretty yourself." Then, realizing that the mare had also asked her a question, she opens her mouth to respond. But before she can, the butterfly the dark Soquili was chasing lands on her ear and flapped its fragile wings.
Selena's mouth drops in amazement. Not even butterflies were afraid of her today. Of all the unexpected things that could have happened to her today.
"Not really, but they do seem to like me," She said to the mare as she shakes her head to make the butterfly float away.
