Mao slowly wandered the complex of the Shinigami Library, letting his eyes wander over the structure. He was kind of bored and some company would be nice. He had a room in this place, but he really didn't know anyone.
It was a cool evening and Mao was obviously dressed for it. He wore his formal gold collared white jacket with his ornamental battle shoulder pads. He also wore a pair of matching gold lined ivory pants to match while wearing some heavy steal shelled boots in gold lining. His ebony wings rest easy on his back and his gauntlet covered hands were at ease on his sides. His pale ivory hair rained down on his elegant face and covered a good deal of his forehead. His glowing yellow-saffron eyes shown through his hair and carried a light aura of peace, though the eyes themselves carried resemblance to that of a wild cats'. His sword also lay at rest at his waist, though he had no intent on using it.
He looked like some fallen angel from heaven who came to give a decree of wore in his graceful manner and dress. But still, his look were deceiving since he hated violence, and he would only fight if someone he cared for or an innocent being was in danger

A slight figure could be seen racing along the rooftops, flickering in and out of sight as she ran. The effects of shunpo. Flash steps. Her specialty was always speed, always. She was a class A disaster in kidou. Bad enough to make Abarai look good. She'd made eighth seat anyway, on the strength of her shunpo and zanjutsu. And her bankai. That was captain potential right there. Not that the petite shinigami often thought about that. Captaincy did not appeal to her.
She was still surprised that Toushiro hadn't demoted her for what happened a month ago. Not only had she kissed a damn vaizard, but she'd also confessed to really, really liking him. She hadn't even gotten an answer from him. He'd left after that, though she supposed that was an answer in itself, and the only one she'd ever get at that.
That was a month ago. A week ago, she'd gotten orders to patrol the real world again, and not the Sanctuary area. No, she was stuck in Durem, and she supposed that was Toushiro's doing. She didn't exactly resent the action, if she ran into Rei around the Sanctuary, well, she wasn't sure what she'd end up doing.
She stopped on the roof of the library, and finally her features could be clearly seen. A rather short girl clad in black robes, a katana hanging from the white obi tied around her waist, a studded leather collar around her neck, her bright pink hair tied up out of the way, her yellow eyes partially hidden behind a pair of thin sunglasses. Those glasses...if asked, she always replied that Renji had gotten her into the habit of wearing them all the time, and even buying them from that same shop. At least hers didn't get busted every other time she got into a fight. And on her arm, partially hidden by her sleeve, a black tattoo of a crysanthemum flower. The girl had only recently gotten to the level of requiring a seal when in the real world.
She stepped off the roof, landing lightly on the steps before the front door. Shinigami Library? That rang a few bells, and brought to mind a fight with a particularly skilled opponent. It had ended in a draw. But Ree had no doubt that if it hadn't been a simple spar, the woman would have utterly trumped her. She grinned to herself as she stepped in, sliding her shades off and slipping them into a pocket as she looked around.
There was another in here, a fellow wandering about whose appearance almost made Ree draw her sword. There was an aura of power about him that was alarming. She slid a hand into her pocket and pulled out her phone, holding it up casually as she flipped it open and started scanning through the files. No matches, no similarities with any of the individuals Seireitei was familiar with. Reason to be cautious, then. No hollow or vaizard was this man, and definitely not an arrancar. "Hello there." There was absolutely no doubt in her mind that he'd be able to see her. To have reiatsu like his and be spiritually blind was impossible.

Mao saw the petite woman in the slight dress and smiled graciously. "Hello there and how are you this evening?" Mao looked a little confused as he examined the girl from head to toe. 'What is she?' he thought in his head as he recalled his sites in heaven. Her aura held a holy presence, but it was unique, with more human like characteristics. Mao was an angel or actually a fallen angel since he is cursed with demon blood, and was from a realm that held a connection with hers, but that information was out of Mao’s reach during his time.
But there was one book he did read that gave him something to identify with and that was a book on God's impact on earth.
One story that seemed to make the most sense right now was the story of God making a different society in the world. When Lucifer began to learn how to corrupt twisted souls of humans and give them a somewhat demonic manifest, God made a society of humans that were blind to the regular human eye. They were given the knowledge to make unique weapons of untold power and were blessed with the ability to manipulate the spiritual energy. They helped god by fighting off these dark souls and forcing them permanently back to Hell or the purgatory and also brought good souls to either heaven, their own realm, or to train among them. These people carried many names, from the Nephilhiem to the Shinigami, and they were the carrier of souls. They were a powerful sect in God's army, but little of them actually know of heaven and its kind.
Mao used this information and the pictorial references in that ancient book to identify her since that was the only thing that her uniform reminded him off. Mao was quite happy that he got to learn more about blessed people, even if they didn't know their relationship with god. His wings expanded a bit and Mao was obviously in a really good mood....

She had already dismissed the question of what he was. Gaia was well known for being full of bizarre beings, as long as he didn't draw his weapon on her, she'd be fine with just leaving that question unanswered. She flipped the phone shut and placed it back in her pocket, keeping her attention on him. Something about him reminded Ree of something...her yellow gaze flicked up to his halo, to his wings, and back to his face.
I will be the one to stand in the heavens.
She repressed a shudder at the memory. This man, whatever he was, was no Aizen.
She nodded at him. "I'm fine, thank you." She was supposed to be on patrol, but Durem was boring as hell. No hollows, no arrancar. Rei would have been a welcome companion, even if he did provoke her into throwing cleaning supplies at him again. Or mistaking tea for sake again. Heh. She just couldn't help wishing Toushiro had shown up a little later. Even if it would have meant even more trouble later.
'Ree...that path is closed to you. Please stop dwelling on it.'
She couldn't quite suppress the flicker of irritation at her zanpakuto. It was the dragon's fault for suggesting she kiss Rei in the first place. Of course, neither of them had expected to get caught, but not losing her seat over it had been an even bigger shock.
"I'm sorry, my mind's wandering. I'm Ree. You are?" Yeah, she was finally starting to relax a bit.

"I am Maziel, but you can just call me Mao" He smiled at her as he spoke. A real Shinigami, the guys in heaven would never believe this. But Mao still kept his composure as he took a seat on a near by bench as he spoke.
"So what brings you to this lovely town of Durem?"
He spoke somewhat sarcastically but he didn't care for his tone. His wings expanded to show their full size in their ebony glory encompassing a diameter from tip to tip of 20 feet, which included his shoulder with as well. They looked glorious and it contrasted his pale porcelain skin and his inquiring but gentle saffron eyes. He was incredibly handsome, but more beautiful than handsome, like some sculpture carved by Michael Angelo brought to life. His face not one flaw or imperfection and his voice was all but hideous. He was not inapproachable and actually looked inviting the sense of warm, like someone who's face brought comfort in beauty, not jealousy or nervousness.

Mao, eh? She nodded once, watching as his wings stretched out. Reminded her of the wings Rei had in bankai. The vaizard's were white though. But he was no angel. A b*****d through and through. But...she still liked him. And had long since given up on trying to figure out why. Couldn't just because he was handsome. She wasn't that shallow, and besides, the man looked just like her former captain. And Ichimaru had never been the least bit attractive to her. Rather, she distinctly remembered multiple occasions where the captain had scared the wits out of her with just that creepy smile. Freak.
Rei, on the other hand, did not creep around and smile oh-so-politely while thinking up the best ways to kill someone. If he hated someone, wanted them to die, they damn well knew it. Rei didn't bother with subterfuge, no, he liked to kick doors down, yell insults, and piss people off. Maybe it was that. The brutal honesty. True, they both had gotten into full out battles, intending to kill each other before. He had unleashed the fury of his hollow on her, and she STILL didn't know how the hell Toushiro had managed to save their asses, the Sanctuary itself had nearly been razed to the ground that day. And all because the captain had killed his arrancar...partner? Ally? She never did figure out what was going on between Rei and that one arrancar. And she had tried to kill him as well, but he had ended up becoming their ally after beating off an Exequias. Those were some uneasy times then. She hadn't dared sleep for the longest time, before she finally realized Rei wasn't planned to murder them all in their sleep.
Though, it wasn't until that stupid prom, and that doomed attempt to get a break from duties that she had realized she found him attractive. And they never would have kissed if he hadn't been an idiot and mistook a bottle of Rangiku's sake for freakin' tea and offered to have a drink with her. That night kept replaying in her dreams, over and over. It was annoying.
Ah, right.
Duty brought her here, of course. Yama-jii was losing his touch if he thought an eighth seat shinigami was needed out here for hollow control, though. Gaia just didn't get as many hollows. Hollows weren't stupid. At least most weren't. The vast majority of the Gaian population could see Hollows. And kick their asses. Really all she was doing out here was konso, soul burial, and a newly graduated shinigami could handle that.
She grinned at Mao. "Just on patrol. Not that there's much to do here. Durem's too damn quiet. What about you?"

So how about we chat over a cup of hot tea in the Library..." Mao was being perfectly honest as he spoke in his heavenly but charming voice of his. He smiled lazily but happily at her, something of a comforting and reassuring smile, as he got himself up and adjusted his composure. He made a 'follow me' gesture into the library as he adjusted himself and folded his wings a bit more so he could walk without having to worry about a breeze picking him up. He stood at an elegant but not huge 6' 1'' with his slender legs and well made torso. Mao did think the young girl was quite beautiful and actually looked about his age. He only looked 17/18 but she looked about the same age, though both were immortal due to their birthright. 'My, this is going to be a interesting evening' Mao thought to himself in pure delight. He was meeting a Shinigami for the first time and it was a beautiful young woman, just his luck!

b*****d was a foot taller than her, she thought to herself as he rose. Not surprising, at barely over five feet, most people were much taller than her. And Toushiro had recently topped her height as well. At least she could still tease him about being a midget when no one else was around. And she had noticed Mao's good looks, but...she was still somewhat infatuated with Rei.
But a cup of tea sounded good, as long as sake wasn't involved. And that memory finally provoked a low chuckle from the girl. That night had been interesting, even without the kiss and getting caught. Actually being able to relax and chat with Rei had been great. She smiled up at him, decided to accept the invitation. "That sounds great, actually. Thanks, Mao."
((Whee, shortfail. Sorry about the wait.))

(We'll continue tommorow, *yawn) Mao smiled as his offer was accepted and he went into the Library and grabbed a seat in a chair next to the garden inside the library itself. He made a gesture for her to grab a seat opposite from him in the small table as he would make the tea in a hasty but efficient manner. Since there was already water there and some heating devices, Mao was able to warm up the water and then he managed to find some nice cups and poured the hot water into them. He found some tea leaves in the garden and decided to use those as a more natural brew. He dipped them into the drinks and watched as it changed colors. He took a sip and relaxed a bit as his shoulders slouched a bit, but his face still kept his beautiful composure. He already prepared a drink for Ree as well, the same thing he was drinking. "So, tell me, are you really a Shinigami?" He inquired in a curious tone.

She took a seat, one hand on the hilt of her zanpakuto to keep it from slapping against the chair as she sat, and watched him make tea. Why did he remind her so much of Rei? The height, the wings, even the things that didn't match just kept making her think of him.
'You need to settle down with someone already. Get him out of your head, Ree. It's not good for you to keep thinking about Rei. He's a vaizard, you're a shinigami. It won't work.'
Aikoku Ryuu hadn't spoken this much in a single day in a while. Her zanpakuto had gone back to being serious and quiet after she'd kissed Rei, and it really hadn't surprised her. That the dragon was being so verbose now was a little surprising.
Her eyes widened a bit when Mao asked that question. Yeah, a lot of people in Gaia could see shinigami, but not very many of them actually recognized them as shinigami. He must have been able to feel her reiatsu, low though it was. She took a sip of tea, watching him over the rim of the cup. "Yes, I am. How do you know about the shinigami?" Now there was a question whose answer she was really interested in.

"I'll tell you if you can guess what I am..." Mao said with a smile as he spoke. He planned to make this a bit of a guessing game, but he was sure she was going to win. "I'll give you a hint, I have little to no relation to Shinigami or Vizard, and there is no way I'm a hollow." He spoke eloquently and clearly with an annunciated voice. His wings spread out a bit more as head adjusted himself slightly and mounted his head on his fist so he could make better eye contact.
Now, the question was whether she had been taught this from the Shinigami or from common knowledge. He doubted the Shinigami half since they were a more secular society and were unlikely to teach any religion of any kind, but it was whether this Shinigami had enough real world experience to be able to identify what he is. He had confidence in her, but wouldn't be too surprised if she didn't know...

She grinned at him. "As much reiatsu as you have, if you were a hollow or vaizard, there'd be a captain after your a**. I'ma rule out arrancar as well, cuz I really don't think that", she waved at his halo, "is part of a hollow mask. Your reiatsu doesn't match an arrancar's, anyways." She leaned back in her chair, sipping at the tea as she thought. He wasn't a Quincy either, they had very distinct reiatsu signals, and anyways, there was only one left.
She hadn't met Ishida, or any of the rest of Kurosaki's gang. Except for Rukia, but she hadn't heard from the other shinigami in a while. The third and thirteenth divisions didn't mingle that often. In fact, she'd been lucky enough to be on assignment to the real world when they had busted into Seireitei, so she hadn't even met the group then. Ree was glad she hadn't, though. Her a** would have been handed to her on a silver platter if she'd gotten into a fight with any of them at that time.
Back to the subject of her lovely companion and what he was. "You do kinda seem like a shinigami, though. How about a clue, big guy?" Yeah, she was kinda flirting with him. No telling how far she'd take it, though.

Mao smiled as she went through all the possibilities one-by-one verbally in front of him. He was honestly impressed by her ability to conclude knowledge into identification that quickly. He was suprised she wasn't one of the white robed captains that are said to have power to rival the arch-angels, but that was yet to be seen.
"If its a hint you want, here it is. I am a figure in all 3 monotheolistic religions, a messenger of the one god who bears his news one wings of white, but mine aren't as white due to the curse of the fallen. Would that do as a hint?"
The hint was more like the awnser in a riddle. A messenger of the monotheolistic god, an angel, and with the curse of the fallen, a returned would be the exact phrase for a fallen angel with loyalty still with god, but a fallen angel would work fine as an awnser. He was having fun playing mind games, but whether or not he would flirt was yet to be seen. He wanted to hear the awnser first...

"Some kind of angel? I don't do much reading on religion, training takes up too much time."
She used to have lots of free time, before she'd gotten a seated position, before they all returned to Seireitei. She missed the simplicity of life at the Sanctuary. It might not have been very peaceful, but at least things had been easier. She missed the friends there, especially Rei. She hadn't seen him since he had left in the middle of that conversation, in the middle of her telling him that she liked him. Realizing that was probably the last time she'd ever see him still hurt. She enjoyed arguing with him, tossing insults back and forth.
It was probably for the best though, she thought to herself as she finished off the tea, a distant, pensive look appearing on her face for a moment. Bringing her thoughts back to the present, she watched Mao, waiting for a reply.

"It doesn't seem you need to read up much, Ree, because your correct. I am an angel, a fallen one at that. But just remember my loyalty is with God. As promised, I will tell you how I was able to tell you're a shinigami..."
He took a deep breath as he retained that smile, except with a deeper satisfaction. 'She is very bright, just as I predicted...' Mao said gleefully in his own head before taking a sip of his tea as well.
"You see, in my time in heaven, there was a book on the societies under god. In those many societies I read about, one particular one caught my eye, the Seretei: The society of the Shinigami, or soul reapers as you call your selves. It talked about Lucifers creation of malformed souls into demon incarnate that you now call hollow and how God made your kind as counternance to them. Though you don't know it, you are God's people, tis a shame that he made you forget about him to make sure you're able to focus and what not."
He smiled as he finished his long winded speech and took another sip of his tea.
"And also, if I may say, you don't need to study theology. Your incredible deductive thought process and wit will more than suffice." He gave an earnest look as he gave the complement.
