 She was always used to the artificial "nice days" when she was still within her cage. The "sun" was always shinning, the plants were always green and the birds were always chirping. But she was not used to the nice days on the real outside world. When she ran away she didn't have time to enjoy the plant life or the non-mechanical birds flying about. She was too busy trying to escape the government members.
Now though she had all the time in the world to enjoy each little piece of nature by itself. It was cooler by the reservoir than it was within the HQ. The water was cool and there was shade.
She dipped the very tip of an ungloved paw into the water. Then slowly she began "drawing" circles within the water. The peace was nice. She was more used to it than she thought.

Eager to find out, Edwin leaned forward to sit upright. Along the way, his back popped in agitation and his bright wings spread and ruffled. Wow, he really did need that stretch more than he thought. Blinking his yellow eyes, the kitsu glanced below and viewed the shallow river below the tree. Hm, could he toss the boat from his branch perch? He was certainly willing to try. Though very gently. So he set the paper object on his tail tip, then lowered the tail as far as possible. "Okay...okay, one...two....." And there, with a slight twitch, he sent the boat spiraling down to the body of water.
Sink or swim, what would it do? He bit his lip as he watched, leaned forward and as focused as a curious cat. The paper tapped the water and teetered dangerously to the side, before pulling itself upright. Success! Edwin cheered to himself with a swing of his paw. Awesome! Who knew paper could be so fun? But then...the water began to move......ripples?
"Eh? Hey!" Who was doing that? Dx;

She couldn't see the other Kitsu with his perfectly made paper boat across from the reservoir. In fact, she had no idea anyone was even near her. She wasn't used to reservoirs in its natural form. The pond she had was an artificial one built to please her and make it seem more "natural".
When the other shouted, she jumped slightly and took her paw out of the water. The ripples still continued a bit when she looked over to where the white-furred male was.
"Oh. I'm sorry," she said in a rather monotone voice.

Head tilted in the direction of the voice, spotting another kitsu on the opposite bank. Then he looked down again to his small boat, ignoring his long braid as it draped forward in his vision. With a twitch Edwin set his wings wide and dived softly off the branch. Some noisy flapping kept him from landing in the water as he hovered above just long enough to pluck the ship from it's adventure. Tucking it safely in his arms like a child, Edwin then glided his way over to the water's edge. It was a smooth landing...even if his tails dipped into the water by mistake.
"It's no problem really. I just hadn't been expecting waves for the cruise." He smiled shortly while focusing on the paper, shaking it here and there of excess water. Eh, seemed it was only good enough for one use. Sighing aloud, Edwin turned to the other kitsu. "So, what's your name? I go by Edwin."

Green eyes followed closely as he lifted the boat from the water and tucked it safely in his arms. She didn't understand why he felt so obligated to protect it from the harms of the world. It was just a simple boat, made out of paper no less. She felt like things such as that could be discarded after one use. Maybe if he made it out of less delicate materials she would understand a little better, but otherwise it was almost an alien concept to her.
"I see..." she replied. She never made paper boats before so she wouldn't know how well they'd fair against waves.
"My name is Su."

"Eh? See what?" Edwin glanced back at the water, wondering if there was something there to be seen. Yes? No? He didn't spot anything in the still water, save for pebbles at the bottom. Ears fell back as he turned eyes back to his arms to see the soggy boat begin to lose its shape. Frowning with a sigh, the kitsu plucked up the item and shook it out, quirking a brow as it unfolded nearly back to the square shape it started as. "Hm."
Kicking back at his tickling tails and feather ends, Edwin grinned back at the girl. "Su? That's a nice and simple name. Su, pleasure to meet ya. I'm Edwin. And, um, sorry about being so rude earlier..." He sweatdropped, imagining what mother would say of it.

"I think 'I see' is just an expression to imply understanding?" She didn't know why he didn't understand that expression. It didn't matter to her much though.
"Nice to meet you Edwin. How were you being rude?" She glanced at his boat momentarily before turning back to him, "What was the paper doing in the water?"

Edwin grinned despite himself and wagged his tails. "I know I know, I hear that all the time from my siblings. Just was teasing that it might have a different meaning this time around." The kitsu brushed lightly at his bangs before chuckling and shaking his head at himself. "But yes, 'I understand'. And I'd be lying to say it wasn't rude on my part at being so snappish at you earlier." Well maybe not snappy, but still a tone of voice not acceptable with new visitors.
Light eyes glanced once more at the soggy paper as she took note of it. "I was bored, so decided to make a watercraft. It takes so long with fluffy paws, I was hoping it'd also last that long. Don't look like it though."

When Edwin wagged his tails and grinned all cutely Su almost felt the urge to smile at him. Maybe even say "aww" to herself very quitely or in her head. But she didn't do either of those things. The feeling was rather odd for her though. She hardly ever felt such a feeling except when she spoke with Ourah that once or twice on the phone.
Most normal Kitsus would probably find Edwin irresistibly adorable, Su just didn't feel it that extremely. She felt it for sure, but she just wasn't sure hot to interpret the feelings.
"I think you weren't rude. Maybe a bit impatient but not rude."
Taking a quick glance at the boat she recalled a couple of those do-it-yourself radio broadcasts (she was only provided with a radio as far as I know) where one of them was for making paper boats for children. If she remembered correctly she made one shortly after the broadcast.
"Maybe if you give it some sort of light, water-proof coating it wouldn't absorb the moisture that quickly and stay afloat longer?"

The boy tilted his head and nearly bit his lip as he observed the other. My, she was such a quiet character! Nothing like the rest of his large and loud family. So it was an odd situation to say the least, for a boy who was so used to chatter all about. And she spoke so calmly...almost factually. He'd dare almost call it bizarre. But then again he didn't get out much and meet the variety of kitsu called 'strangers'. So perhaps he was the odd one?
"Alright then, impatient works too. But hey, at least I acknowledged it, right?" He grinned before turning the wet sheet distractedly in his paws. Hm, a coating? What material would be good for that? "Hnhm, that does make sense. Maybe I'll ask my brother or sister to cast a spell to it, just for that purpose...."

Though Edwin may think he was the strange one, that was far from the truth. His family may be loud and full of magical users as well as those skilled in a variety of things (though the Lupin family certainly was well-known for their magical abilities). Su never grew up with a loving family such as that. In fact she never even knew what it was like to have a family. Her mother sold her off for the Clover project when she was just a child. Su doesn't even remember the face of her mother nor of the existence of her father.
"A spell?" She asked quizzically, "What is a spell exactly?" There was no such thing as magic in her world. Unless the special powers of the Clover children counted toward that...But she had a feeling it wasn't quite like her powers, for she only knew how to manipulate technology and nothing more.

Gasp!
"W...what's a spell?...." Edwin dropped the ruined paper in his stunned surprise at the others words. How could she say that? How could anyone say that? Gathering his senses together, the boy shook his head as he thought of what to say. "Well, magic is like the wonders of nature. It can create things that individuals alone can't make. It's sort of the opposite of science, though really I'm sure it's science itself that is its foundation. It does require research and precision after all." The kitsu male quirked a brow as he leaned to his left, nodding towards Su's wings. "Them there aren't creations of magic? They're really cool looking!" Hm, they did seem more technical though, with the wiring and the metals.

From the way Edwin described magic, it was still a rather alien concept to her. Does he mean creating things out of the thin air? How can that be, though? Everything in the world she knew was assembled together piece by piece. The materials certainly didn't come up just because someone willed them to.
"This 'magic' concept seems strange..." She said absent-mindedly.
The mechanical bird shook her head, "No, they're not made from 'magic'. I assembled them out of wires and precious metals."

Edwin grinned widely. Was this girl...honestly an innocent when it came to the knowledge of magic? A student then? His tails almost flittered at the motivating thought. "You have nooo idea." The kitsu chuckled lightly while chaking his own head. "Sometimes....well, no, most the time it baffles me as well. Thank goodness for textbooks." Golden eyes then quirked as he gazed over the peculiar wings. My my, such intricate creations! "They're...fascinating! How long did they take for you to make? Do you fly well?" His own wings spread out wide, organic feathers making a crisp sound as they adjusted fully. What a rare opportunity before him. He would dare call it another experiment, if not for the 'experiment' being a living and breathing kitsu before him. Still he couldn't resist to see the other demonstrate her own wings, even if he had to grovel for it. As sacred as magic could be to some, Edwin found the bond of tool works to be just as awe inspiring.

She was intrigued as to what this "magic" was and even more eager for a demonstration. "Could you...maybe show me what this 'magic' is?" It seemed like an all-powerful ability that could allow one to do wondrous things! Maybe it could allow flight capabilities for those without wings, or start a fire in the middle of the city full of concrete. She was starting to feel a little excited just thinking about it.
When asked about her wings, she placed a paw on her chin, thinking long and hard the details to fully answer his question with. "A few weeks, I think. But I'm not entirely sure as I didn't have any time-keeping devices handy. They fly..." She hesitated for a moment, wondering if she should tell him about her Clover powers or just give him a white lie, "Well enough I'd say. Depending on the day it may fly better than your organic wings."
If the Elric child wanted a demonstration of how she used them, he'd have to ask for it. She didn't understand people very well let alone what their wishes were.
