Kiridi had spent most of her life under the watch and care of the sisterhood. She was groomed in the ways of providing food and creating herbal remedies for common illnesses. She knew all the protocol and all the ways to address and treat a male Harpy (should any ever take interest, that is). She didn't feel that sense of urgency the other females got when it came to bearing young, at least not yet. Kiridi, being raised with sisters, knew how to care for chicks and even spend time in the creche learning how to tend to the littler hatchlings.
And yet none of that seemed all that interesting to her yet. The elder females said it was normal and not to worry about it too much, some females took other females as their mates and only bred in order to raise chicks for themselves. It wasn't an uncommon occurrence and if she decided she wanted to raise a brood, then she'd know how to handle it. For the time being, she watched others faun over the males and puzzled as she did now.
With wide eyes, she stared as they all bunched over one of the more vividly colored males and wondered why they didn't also find the more bright rust and goldenrod ones just as attractive. They had bright plumage, too, though not as showy. But their feathers were just as glossy, healthy, and perfumed as the next. She thought Kake, to name one, was very handsome to her and his chicks were always healthy.
She mused from a distance, idly preening as one would chew their fingernails over their thoughts.
