The crisis was over, the survivors had joined the warren and it looked as if Bracken's gamble had paid off. Everything was calming down after the first confused days when the new arrivals were still gaining their bearings and finding their places in the warren. The captain was back and one of the hlessil – no, one of the new warren members now – was apparently competent enough to be able to join the Owsla straight away. She was glad. The whole ordeal had made the warren stronger and if anyone doubted the actions of the Chief rabbit after all this they deserved a good beating (in her not so humble opinion). It was a true relief that they now had a functioning Owsla again, even if the Captain could be a bit stuck up sometimes. He was very good at what he was doing, and she had noticed the difference when he had left to avoid endangering the warren.

However, it was clear that the number of hlessil had diminished since she last saw them. U'tuhlroo was fairly sure she had either seen in person or heard rumours about everyone who had made it. She noted, not without satisfaction, that the spotted youngster that had created such a mess was missing. For all she knew he could have been picked off by elil, he had sure seemed stupid enough to walk up to one, but she hadn't seen Ivy and that told her something else.

The brave doe might very well have carried the disease and transmitted it to the kittens she had watched. Seeing the fluffy, half-blind one - much bigger now than when he had been sent from the warren - made her calm down slightly. If he had survived it couldn't be the disease, right? And if Pepper had survived there was almost no risk that U'tuhlroo could have carried the disease back to the warren? The risk must be gone by now, right?

"So Ivy didn't make it," she said softly to herself, after thinking this through. It was careless to openly use the doe's name where someone could hear, but U'tuhlroo was distracted and did not pay attention to her surroundings. She didn't realise a buck was close enough to hear, a buck that knew who Ivy was.

User ImageThyme had been keeping to himself since his last visit with Ivy. He just didn’t feel like talking to anyone and he knew if anyone found out he went down there without permission he’d be in a lot of trouble with the chief.

It had been awhile since his last visit and he had just started to plan his next trip when he saw the hlessi starting to return and join the warren. Thyme felt his heart beating a mile a minute as he eagerly waited for Ivy to come back. As he noticed she wasn’t with the main group he told himself that she might just be tired and trying to get the kittens back safely, so he wasn’t too concerned at first, but, as he saw Pepper returning alone his ears started to droop, “Where is she?”

Despite his best efforts to try and stay calm, Thyme started to panic, “Where is she? What happened to her? Is she hurt? She might need help!” he sat up on his haunches and looked across the down for any sign of Ivy, his good eye squinting and trying to see further, but he couldn’t see anything.

Thyme suddenly felt angry, “No, she must still be walking back, she’s fine I know she is fine” he chattered his teeth irritably as he looked back at the warren and considered running down to the scrapes to bring her back. He was just about to take off when he heard a nearby doe muttering something about somebody not making it. “You there” he said to the doe, much more abruptly then he'd ever been before in his life, “Did you know Ivy? Is she all right? Tell me she’s ok” he hopped closer to her, a severely apprehensive and panicked look in his eye.

For a few heartbeats U'tuhlroo thought that the frantic grey buck was going to attack her. He looked as if he had been in quite the fight already, and between the look of his damaged eye and the look in his good one he was not exactly a comforting sight. The doe positioned herself in a threatening position, ears back and tail erect, ready to bite him if there should be a need for it.

"Will you keep it down," she hissed, when she realised he was talking about Ivy. Had he heard her? And was this about the Ivy she shouldn't technically know at all. U'tuhlroo was prepared to deny everything if needed. If someone had seen her close to her scrape during the quarantine she sure would have gotten in trouble over it before now, right? There was no proof, but she wanted to know why he believed she might know naything.

"How do you know this Ivy," she said, "And just for the record - who are we talking about? Could be lots of Ivy's running around in a warren as big as ours."

Thyme sat up, completely taken aback by the doe’s seemingly aggressive behaviour towards him, “What? You mentioned Ivy, I just heard you” he shook his head slightly, still in a panic but trying desperately to sound more relaxed, “Ivy was…a friend. She was down in the scrapes with the others looking after the two kittens, who’s names I cannot recall at this moment” he tried to remain as calm as possible while he spoke to her, just in case she was only interested in a fight, and aggravating her was certainly not going to get him the information he required, “Look, you just said Ivy, I heard you. I don’t have time to sit here discussing this, when she could be down there injured and in need of help. Now please, if you don’t know anything then just say so, so I can stop wasting time and go see if she is alright”. Deep down, Thyme knew it was very likely that the black rabbit had already visited Ivy, especially if she had not returned with the others, but he just needed to know for sure.

U'tuhlroo relaxed a little as Thyme started to talk. He must have known Ivy, but how? Same reason she knew the doe's name she reckoned. She was still tense, but no longer looked as if she was ready to attack at the twitch of a whisker. It seemed they were both in trouble, and if this buck worked himself up even more she was sure Owsla would come to investigate.

"Are you daft?" she whispered angrily, "Run down there to look for her? You might as well thump your foot and announce to the whole warren that you broke the quarantine and disobeyed Bracken-rah while there was still sickness among the hlessil. Because you did, didn't you? And I suspect you'll look much worse than you do now when the Owsla are finished with you."

Clearly she needed to talk some sense in him before he stirred up trouble for both of them. She was quite confident that she would be able to lie her way out of this even if the grey buck decided to squeal on her, but she'd rather not have to.

"C'mon Scarface," she said quietly, "Lets discuss this somewhere more suitable. And yes, I did know your friend. Now follow me and try not to make a scene."

She started walking, but not towards the scrapes. She knew that a thick bush could be found a short way from here. Last time she brought a buck there she had something very different in mind, but it would be a convenient place to talk without the risk of nosy warren members interrupting.

Thyme looked ready to protest, but he shook his head, desperately trying to think logically. As much as he hated to admit it, the doe was right. If he ran down there now he’d just make matters worse for himself and quite possibly for this doe as well. That wouldn’t solve anything. All he really wanted were answers, and it was looking more and more likely that he was never going to see Ivy again.

Nodding his head silently to the doe’s requests, Thyme began to follow her to the place that she deemed more suitable to chat. His ears fell back and he sighed, pushing all thoughts of running down to the scrapes to the back of his mind.

U'tuhlroo was visibly nervous, and she checked one last time to make sure no other rabbit was close enough to hear them. When she was satisfied the area under the bush was safe she turned to Thyme and met the gaze of his good eye.

"Think about it," she said, trying very hard not to look at or think about his dead eye, "They started coming back a few days ago. Even the kitten with the tuft and the bad ear and eye is back by now. And if he made it..."

She paused a little to let this fact sink in. If a kitten, blind in one eye and with a useless floppy ear had made it back by now. He would understand, wouldn’t he?

"I don't think she made it," she said, trying to speak calmly and patiently, "We know about the yellow b***h already. She fought a hawk the last thing she did apparently... And the spotted outskirter must have stopped running too, good riddance. But you need to understand that Ivy isn't coming back, and that we can't go where she went to try to find her."

Thyme remained silent as he thought about what the doe was saying. She was painfully right about everything, and his head spun as it all started to sink in. Ivy must have been called while she was looking after the kittens. Silently, Thyme scolded himself for leaving her alone down there. Just to keep himself from getting into trouble. How selfish he had been that night?!

Sighing loudly, Thyme’s ears fell back and the looked down at his paws, “Thankyou” he said quietly, “I need to be alone now”. Without looking up at U'tuhlroo, Thyme made his way out of the bushes and found himself somewhere where he could be on his on for awhile.

((He’s gonna want a few days to think. So we can either skip ahead now or finish this rp and start a new one at some point in the future))

U'tuhlroo watched him carefully and could see his expression change as he finally understood. Thyme's broken expression almost made her feel bad about being the one who forced him to see reason, but she also felt that it was the only way to keep him from doing something incredibly stupid. She watched him go but said nothing, sensing that it would be a lost cause to try to make him stay and talk this through properly. He wouldn't mention this to anyone else, she hoped, and she also hoped that he hadn't wandered too close to the diseased female when he had sneaked off to meet her.

Since Bracken-rah had deemed that it was safe to let the survivors join the warren they should be safe too, right? But how could she know for sure? The guilt of possibly endangering the warren made her feel sick, and it was all for nothing. Or was it? One of the kittens had returned at least. She had to believe that she had made a tiny difference, leaving that flay. She had to believe that she hadn't endangered the warren for nothing.

Then and there she decided to try to keep a close look on the gray male over the next few days. If he showed any sign of disease, or any sign of cracking and spilling the beans.... Well... She simply had to face that elil when it showed up. With a sigh she made her way out of the bush and slowly made her way back to the safety of the warren.
