Baron was making his way to town, with the baskets holding vegetables strapped over his back. He was smiling widely, and trotting in a happy way. He loved going into town, there was always something going on! He was weaving across the road, and hopping, and jumping in a way that looked almost like he was dancing, to internal music. Which he was. He did it often when he was walking alone. He definitely looked like he was enjoying himself. He reached the top of a hill, and looked down at the town, grinning, shifting excitedly on the spot, much like a happy dog would.

Synerda tried to ignore the confused dockman and tossed him the tie-rope to her ketch. No doubt he expected a two-legger to come off her vessel, well too bad! It was hers alone, build with the help of her siblings and cousins. She left her younger sister behind to deal with the merchants - good practice, and it gave her a much deserved break.

She made way along the coast to avoid the largest part of the man-city and was soon walking at a slight incline that would lead to her a hill overlooking the city. It was a wonderful spot to look for signs of tomorrow's weather, depending on the wind and cloud coverage. She was happily humming a sea shanty to herself when she noticed someone else had beat her to the hill. And happily it wasn't one of those annoying two-leggers! Figuring he'd scent her before long - if not already - she kept on her pace without yet giving greeting, still humming her merry tune.

He did indeed catch her scent, and curiously turned around, smile still in place. He froze when he saw her, eyes widening, and mouth dropping open in genuine shock. He looked her over, then blinked, once, twice, three times to make sure he was really seeing her. No...that couldn't be...how? He'd never seen someone like him before, ever, let alone so close to humans. He was always told that taurs and humans tended to stay apart. He was frozen with shock, unable to move, or speak, all he could do was stare, his ears pinning back.

Instinct washed away her ready smile at his reaction and pushed Synerda's own ears back as she halted her progress. She was both a bit confused and on the defensive. She waited a while to see if he would do or say anything threatening, or at the very least ask her to leave. But his tongue seemed frozen.

"I only want a bit of time on the hill... but if it is yours then I will go," the last was said through gritted teeth, she hated backing down but she didn't have time for a confrontation.

His legs bent slightly, lowering himself slightly towards the ground in submissive, 'don't hurt me' kind of way. He mumbled something, head lowering. This was scary. Really, really scary...he always thought he'd be attacked if he ran into another taur, "I'm sorry...I didn't mean to take the hill," he'd only stopped for a few seconds to rest. It had been a long climb, what with his dancing and all.

Synerda's ears slowly relaxed. This pup - she felt older than him somehow - was really confusing. "I won't fight you for it," she said, one eyebrow slightly raised. "There's enough room to share..." She felt a bit akward, thinking at first he was challenging her for the hill spot - be it in an odd way - and now he was submissive?

He watched her for a moment, stepping towards her, "You're not going to hurt me..?" He stood up a little straighter, "I'm sorry...I've....I've never seen someone else like me before." He swallowed, ears flicking for a moment, "I'm Baron."

"I.. never seen your own kind?" Synerda's eyes turned with malice to the city below. "Are they keeping you here? Against your will?" She'd heard of orphaned wolf pups going to humans on rare occasion, even the other tribes did it from what she heard. But among the wolftaur, the rest of the deceased parent's pack usually stayed involved in the child's life. To leave a child unprotected against packless savages was unthinkable!

He looked confused for a second, then shook his head, "I...no, not at all! I live here. Over there, actually," he pointed to the farm that could just be seen off to the east. "My parents found me, and took me in," he nervously shifted for a moment, then moved over to her, "You come from the forest?"

She looked at the distant rigid lines and cleared vegitation with sadness, home was much more wild. It made her feel alive to travel the untamed mountains and woods. "No, at least, not the woods here. I came by boat from my own home." She pointed toward the docks in the other direction. Her ketch was too small to be seen among the larger trade ships, which made a frown crease her forehead.

He blinked, tilting his head slightly, looking towards the ocean, "There's more..?" He looked at himself, then at her lower half, frowning, "You and I are the same." He looked to the trees, then gestured, "The taur that live in that forest...are they the same too? Or are they different? I hear different words used for them, and apparently they're for different taur. Or groups..."

Synerda thought for a second, she wished she had time to tell him everything. Instead she lowered herself into a comfortable position on the grass with her legs curled underneath her. "Here, sit down," she said, patting the ground. "They aren't all like us, though a few do live on this island." Would he even know that word? Surely the two-leggers taught him he lived on an island. "We are the Yu-ne-hay, what man call the wolftaur for our similarity to a certain animal they know. This island is home mostly to the Proudtail and Brightstar tribes, and man has given them names as well." She paused a moment in case he had immediate questions.

He sat down, then settled in to listen eagerly. He nodded when she said something he knew, and his ears perked when she said something he had no clue about. Yu-ne-hay? Thats what he was then? He shifted a bit, "Are the Proudtail and Brightstar...are they centaurs, and cervitaurs? Those are the words I've heard them use. A few people have called me a wolf before. I suppose that makes sense."

The story of the Yu-ne-hay was too long to go into (and Chibi doesn't really know the origin of the word anyway) so she latched onto what he did know. "Yes, centaur and cervitaur." Her ears twitched with annoyance at 'wolf'. At least wolftaur differentiated them from the beasts. "The centaur are more welcoming of these strangers than most," she gestured to the city, "but still remain separate. Not allowing them full residence in their tribelands." She saw how quickly she'd moved to talking of land ownership and belonging. She was in agreement with those who said no two-legged should live in the Cein Isles.

He listening, staying silent until she was down, thought frowning slightly, "Why do they stay seperate? I've been living here my whole life, and its wonderful! I'm happy, and the humans are so kind to me. I have friends, even." He looked down uncertainly, "Do the taur not like humans?"
