Nobody knows exactly where they came from or why, but about 80 years ago the cyber-knight emerged. Some believe the cyber-knight came into being to oppose the ever growing and corrupt slave traders. Others say that they came to fight the hordes of supernatural beings that terrorize the land. The truth is that they are the champions of all who are oppressed, weak, and innocent, whether they be threatened by the slavers, gangs, or monster aliens.

As to the knights' origin, not even they seem to know for certain. Legend has it that a group of great and noble warriors, who called themselves the Defilers, came to the land. Their group was composed of many different manner of men and monsters, yet they showed by example of their courage, honor, and actions, that all people were equal and meant to be free. When the group left, years later, they had made a great impression on the wilderness people. One, in particular, a tall, dark haired male, by the name of Coake, stayed (by the people's request) to train others in the way of the knights. It is said that Coake too, would leave, but not before creating the legacy that is the cyber-knights.

Today, being a cyber-knight is a way of life, based on the ideology and code of ethics. It is not an actual organization. One becomes a knight only if he or she is accepted as an apprentice and is instructed in the ways of knighthood by an accomplished master. After years of tutelage and training, the dedicated apprentice may achieve knight status as well. These knights in turn, teach others and the tradition continues. Rumor has it that there exists a monastery that teaches the way of the knights and that of Lord Coake, himself, is its spiritual teacher, but if it exists, then the travel companies have yet to find it. Nor does anyone else seem to know its location.

The cyber-knights are organized by chapters. The chapters can be either covert or overt, depending on where the chapterhouse is located. Some chapterhouses are grand, easily recognizable citadels which inspire confidence in law and order, while others are small and hidden within the slums of the cities, acting as strategic safe houses for the knights.

The knights have five ranks. >poor, traveling, landed, master and invisible.<

Poor Knights : These are the rookie knights, usually partial conversion cyborgs who are still learning what it is like to work and live as a cyber-knight. Cyber-knights realize that there is a change in the psychology of a person who loses the sense of touch, and may not always adapt to their new body. Since this change is noticeable and somewhat shameful or humiliating to those who is making the adjustment, they are regarded with mercy and understanding by other, better adjusted cyber-knights. As they were all poor knights once.

Traveling Knights : These are knights who guard major traveling space ships such as the Trancity. The knights are technically homeless, they're only place of rest is the local chapterhouse on the ship, if it has one. Sometimes the ships only have one or two cyber-knights, and no chapterhouse. Trancity has a chapterhouse on Deck 20, F Section, Block 261.

Landed Knights : These knights have done their time in the large space cities and have found a home on planet somewhere in the galaxy. These knights are guardians and overseers for small planetary colonies that are just starting up and have a government no bigger than that of a town council. It is the knight's duty to maintain order and allow the colony to develop into major trading hubs. Only a cyber-knight who can balance their logical technology with their human emotions can be chosen for Landed Duties.

Master Knights : These are knights who have helped a colony grow into a major city and have need to open a full chapterhouse. These knights are regarded as learned and wise individuals who's advice should not be taken lightly. Master knights also select who will be the next generation of cyber-knights and train the poor knights that follow them.

Invisible Knights: Invisible Knights are just that, invisible. They have received reverse augmentation, in order to look more human and less cybernetic. Many invisible knights still have augmentation but it is designed for covert activities. These knights often infiltrate criminal organizations and preform duties as criminals in order to rise in rank. They have been known to practice selective assassinations and cause infighting and distrust within a criminal organization in order to erode the power structure from the inside out. This has lead many a crime boss to execute some of their best lieutenants fearing that they were invisible cyber-knights.

Only the best, most elite cyber-knights can become invisible.

Any chance of an alliance between the Cyber Knights and Darkstar?

It's unlikely, Cyber-Knights don't want to get bogged down in politics, especially if Darkstar turns out to be corrupt.

They would rather just have a cordial relationship then a signed alliance.

So kind of a mutual relationship, then? One of those "you scratch my back, I scratch yours" deals? Both are dedicated to keeping peace on board the ship, so I think they could easily work together in the need arose.

Yeah but still the Cyber-knights are insular. The massive amounts of cybernetics they have prevents them from feeling things normal humans would. They don't think, they process information and make decisions. It's their human mind that tempers their logic. Many cyber-knights use their quest for justice as their only way to keep sane.

They don't behave like a squad of soldiers, they behave more like Dr House, or Bat-Man. They believe that the only thing they can fall back on is themselves as they consider themselves to be the only untouchable and uncorrupted security force on the ship.
