There are no actual towns listed but that
doesn't mean there are none on the islands. They are just
not well-known enough to have any merit. Feel free to
come up with your own town names for the islands.

Hidden, on the Western tip of Aimon Island

I never even got to know his name.

It had happened so fast. The old man had been ill, this he knew. But he awoke one morning and the old man just... didn't. It was rather traumatic to him, seeing as they knew each other for a long time. Even though...

Tsure's eyes burned. He remembered the tattoo. It was one of the most painful things he had ever experienced, but not as painful as the sword that had sliced open his forehead and removed a rather large part of his hair. He had known, he was just denying that fact. He knew the old man was too old to live much longer. And yet the death hit him harshly.

"What the hell am I still doing here," Tsure said. He then mulled over his thoughts.

What is there for me to do here. It's rather obvious that even if these are the angel creatures, they have a certain dislike of homosexuals. I would almost be willing to bet that if I moved elsewhere, I would be accepted just a little bit easier, particularly if I left the fact that I'm gay behind with it.

Tsure thought just a little more.

This is an island chain. According to the old man... Northwest should be Sundosia. The only problem is, how I will swim over there with a staff and a tanto. And another problem is, I forget how much of a distance it is.

Tsure sighed and pondered his next move. He was always the adventurous type... He never wanted to be stuck anywhere, but now it appeared that he actually -might- be stuck.

_Somewhere on the Western tip of Aimon Island_

Alain sighed, leaning back in his chair as he stared vacantly out the window. His father had taken one of their fishing boats out to the main continent almost a month ago to deal with some business. He’d told Alain that he would return within one week’s time. He’d also told him not to bother looking for him if he wasn’t back after a month.
The young man gritted his teeth as he pondered what his father could have gotten himself into. He’d always been a gambling man… and gambling wasn’t exactly thought of with the highest regards in Sundosia. Maybe he’d gotten himself into some deep trouble. If that were the case, Alain would have to bail him out… again.
He told me not to come after him though. He reminded himself. What was the point in listening to his old man anyway? He was twenty years old, he could handle himself!
Finally, he’d come to a decision.
He quickly packed up some food and water to take with him on a trip. He’d drop by his neighbor Stu’s and ask him to keep an eye on the house while he was gone.
He wouldn’t be longer than a week. Maybe two. Pausing for a moment, he turned to grab more food.

Hidden, on the Western tip of Aimon Island

Time to head to the beach.

Tsure grabbed the few things he had. A small pouch with money. His staff. His tantos hidden in his thin boots and the ripped off lower part of his robes. He wore only a light shirt and converted the upper part of his robes to a vest. All looked old but in acceptable condition.

Walking in the light snow that hadn't yet melted, he walked about 200 meters before stopping next to the ocean and realizing there was no way he could cross. He could hardly see Sundosia in the distance.

He turned and saw something that might help him... a fishing boat. And a man.

He gaped in wonder.

I've never seen a fishing boat here. Tells you how often I visit the beach.

"Uh, excuse me!" He said to the young man. "By any chance are you going to Sundosia? I've been through a lot, but I'm willing to pay you all I have to catch a ride over there."

((Heh, Alain's my age in real life.))

_Somewhere on the Western tip of Aimon Island_

Alain turned as someone called out to him. He was just starting to loosen the ropes that held his little fishing boat steady against the town harbor. He shrugged, standing up straight as he replied, “I’m not gonna take all you’ve got to take you to the same place I’m going.” He ran a hand through his shaggy blond hair and smiled. “If you’ll just pay for some food and drink when we make it to the mainland, I’d be happy to give you a ride.”
A warm meal after being out on the cold sea sure wouldn’t hurt. It would do better than what he had packed, at the least. Anyway, this guy didn’t look like he had anywhere to go besides where he was going. It couldn’t hurt.

"I... uh, I don't know what these coins mean." He held out a few coins: Two gold, 6 silver and 9 copper. "But if that's enough to ensure we get to have a meal, I don't think I've had a decent one over the past two years." Tsure gave the blonde-haired man a slight grin.

I know nothing about the world. I don't know what's going on out there. All I know as Priests and the old man, and the majority of this island. And I know Sundosia's to the Northwest. Man! I wish I'd have stopped doing so much training to learn my way around and what current events are!

"So, what's the political situation in Sundosia?" Tsure asked, trying to start conversation. He brushed the blond hair on the back of his head around just a little, trying to cover up his rather large scar. "Oh, and before I ask anything else, what's your name?"

Alain smiled wryly. This guy really didn’t know what was going on. That was a bit weird, but not unheard of. A lot of people came to the Celerice islands for various reasons. Some of those reasons just happened to keep them so busy or isolated they weren’t able to keep a grasp on what was going on in the outside world. That was fine by him of course. He wished he didn’t know what was going on sometimes.
“Well in regards to your currency situation,” he said, pointing at the coins (and pondering a bad pun along the lines of “current” situation and “currency” situation). “That’ll definitely be enough for a good meal. And maybe a decent bed if you’re at the right place.”
He reinforced the knots holding his little boat to the harbor so he could talk to the man without worries. “The political situation is a short story in Sundosia. Not so much in other countries… I’ll tell you about it on the way I guess.” He smiled brightly and held a hand out. “I’m Alain Muneldor. And you are?”

"The name's Tsure Riodin." He accepted the handshake.

"I suppose you're wondering why I ask such questions. The fact of the matter is, I used to be one of the Priests here." He pointed at his now tattered, somewhat brown robes. "These used to be white. Unfortunately, I was thrown out of the Priesthood... They wanted me to learn that which I did not. They wanted to teach elemental magick, and I basically said no." His voice was quicker during this entire bit, and it didn't take a genius to figure out he was lying.

"After being kicked out, I was mauled by a bear, which I managed to fight off... but the scar remains. I was taken in by an old man."

Tsure's eyes shifted from side to side. He had actually figured he might've gotten away with it, except it all seemed too perfect to him. Tsure shook his head.

"No, to tell you that would be to lie. The old man said to be true to myself. I am who I am." Musing his next words, he merely spoke with complete truthfulness. "The priests. They beat up my friend. I ended up killing one of them. My friend and I kind of... well, we had feelings for each other that neither of us couldn't explain. Except we were both male."

By this point, Tsure looked at his worn boots, and then to a stone near them.

"The Priests kicked me out. Specifically my father. He nearly took off my head with his sword. I was forced out, and they left me to die. I healed my scalp on my own. After a few weeks, I ran into this hut, close to here."

Tsure appeared to be calm, even while saying it.

"That describes who I am."

_Somewhere on the Western Coastline of Aimon Island_

Alain listened to Tsure’s story with a solemn face and an open mind. It was obvious that not far into the story, yes, he was lying. Then Tsure shook his head. Apparently the jig was up. He told Alain the truth of his banishment from the priesthood and how he’d come to be who he is.
“Well…” he said, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly. “That’s quite the life you’ve got there.” He smiled and nodded to his fishing boat rocking gently against the harbor. “I won’t judge you for that though. I would have lied if I were worried about that too. But it seems you’ve got a good head on your shoulders. You told the truth in the end.”
He led climbed aboard the boat and waved for Tsure to follow. “Well c’mon in. It’s not much, but it’ll get us there in a few hours’ time. That should be enough to get you up to date with the goings on around the world.”
Alain had never been one for judging people. He was honest and bright, but he knew that everyone had things they’d rather hide about themselves. He wasn’t any better than anyone else. The only ones who held the right to judgment were the gods. That’s what he believed.

Tsure entered the boat. He had only seen one once before, and it was huge. He thought it belonged to a bunch of pirates at the time, but didn't catch a good glimpse of it. This one looked really small. Tsure continued to stand, using his staff as a balance because he was not used to being on a boat at all.

"Alain, can I ask you a couple of questions before you speak of the situation?"

Tsure continued on, not waiting for Alain to respond. "First what exactly do you do for a living? Second, isn't it necessary for me to get a job? And third, if I said I wanted to see the world, would you believe me?"

A glimmer of hope over a heart of relative despair was the only thing that showed in Tsure's eyes. He was afraid of what would happen, scared of civilization and them knowing more than he did, possibly even more about him than he knew of himself.

_Sailing off the Western Coast of Aimon Island_

When he took note that Tsure was getting aboard, Alain went back to unfastening the ropes so they’d be able to set out. He saw that this man asking for passage was obviously unfamiliar with the motions of a boat and smiled gently to himself. He moved to pull the sail up when Tsure bombarded him with a slew of questions. When he’d gotten the sail up, not without a bit of effort, he took his spot at the helm.
“Well…” he said softly as he carefully steered his little boat out of the harbor. “The first one’s easy enough to answer. I’m a fisherman. This is the boat I usually use, actually. My father and I are both in the same profession. We don’t have to do much since we get most of our profit from here around town. But every once in a while we go to the mainland.” He adjusted the wheel and sat down in the cockpit before continuing. “I guess it would be necessary for you to get a job of some kind. I mean, you’re gonna need money to get anywhere in this world. And that’s the only way to get it.” He thought about what he’d just said and laughed. “Scratch that. It’s the only honest way to get it. But I think we’ve already come across the fact that you’re honest.”
Lifting his eyes to the white-blue sky, Alain pondered over that third question. The world was dangerous now more than ever. Everyone knew that. Well, everyone but this guy maybe. He thought, switching his gaze to Tsure. He’ll learn that on his own soon enough.
“If you say that you want to then that must be true, right?” He had no reason to think differently. “I’m telling you now though, this world isn’t easy to get by in. Especially if you want to go around seeing all of it. I hope you’re able to defend yourself.”

Sailing off the Western Coast of Aimon Island

Tsure continued holding on to his staff and thought over the words Alain had said.

"Well, I haven't 'worked' per se ever in my life. I forget about most of my Priest training. But I know how to wield a staff, and the tantos hidden... well, somewhat hidden, by my legs. But who has use for someone who knows how to fight?"

Tsure pondered about the comment Alain had made about the world, and thought, perhaps the world is a more cruel place than even I realize. Not that I know much about it, anyway.

Tsure gazed off the boat and noticed a rather large ice jam.

"What is the world like? And what are we to do about that ice jam? From what I understand, boats do not go well with ice."

((Heh, I grabbed some booty from Mr. Mule. And man, Tsure is sheltered in comparison to the majority of the other characters. Heh. Not how I expected him to turn out, but I like it anyway.))

_Sailing off the Western Coast of Aimon Island_

Alain kept a cautious eye on the helm as he spoke with Tsure. The boat didn’t need much guiding when it came to sailing the straight between Sundosia and Aimon Island. So he didn’t have to do much on account of concentration. Not much more than glance every once in a while to be sure it didn’t stray. He also had to be sure there weren’t any icebergs floating around in their immediate vicinity. Little ones were fine, but it was the big ones he had to watch out for.
“Actually, you’d be surprised how many mercenary companies pass through here.” He said while pulling his cloak a little closer. It was chilly out on the water. Not that it wasn’t cold on the mainland as well. “If you don’t want to join a company though, you could just float from tavern to tavern until you find a one man job. You’re more likely to find any kind of mercenary job somewhere other than here though.” He nodded his head toward the slowly approaching land mass that was Sundosia. “When it comes to fighting in Sundosia, that’s a knight’s job. They take care of everything here. Well, mostly everything. Whatever people can’t sneak past them I guess.”
Having never really had to explain the world before, Alain had to think on the subject for a moment before he could come to a good answer. Before he could think of anything though, he heard the words “ice jam” come out of Tsure’s mouth. He rose from the cockpit and strode over to the bow of his little boat.
Sure enough, not more than two miles ahead there was a small cluster of relatively large icebergs in their path. Groaning a little at the thought of having to move around the great barges of ice, Alain crept back to the cockpit and resumed control of the helm. Turning the wheel clockwise, he caused the rudder to shift and slowly pull the boat to the starboard side.
“Going around may take a bit longer… since it’s almost a guarantee that there’ll be more than just those lying around right there.” Alain frowned, now being extra careful to keep his eye on the sea. It was entering the summer season and the melting ice usually meant more icebergs.
“Anyway, about the world,” he said, continuing with their original conversation. “It’s not quite fair to say that it’s a good place… but it’s not half-bad either. Right now, the world is filled with danger. Mostly danger of the Vampyri type. The Royal Line of Asythea has been replaced with a new king in recent years. Of course he’s been king since before I was born… but that doesn’t matter. He’s made a lot of changes. Lots of bad ones and no good as far as I can tell. All of the world’s troubles are his fault if you’re to believe whatever you’ll hear in any town.”
It was obvious that even Alain was unsure of what was true and false. He wasn’t exactly an adventurer and he didn’t pretend to know what was going on. All he knew was whatever he heard from other people. “He started the slave trade about… oh, ten years back I’d say. The slave trade deals in Werewolves from Hailyn, from what I hear. Apparently even the Vampires won’t set foot in Atrumalus.” He frowned harder at that thought. The Wolves of Atrumalus were known to be brutal and unforgiving. But they were still the sister tribe to those in Hailyn. So why did they not go to their aid? Surely with the might of Atrumalus backing them, Hailyan Wolves could break free of their chains and fight back against their Vampyri persecutors. Then again… even if they did that, their kith and kin already captured and enduring hardships in Asythea would surely suffer even more.
Alain sighed. The world was filled with such suffering. And the kingdom in which he lived merely sat back and watched as the world rotted from the inside out.

☆Oh, you got booty? That's good! Maybe we should put good fish in the mule tanks...
Oh yeah, and just an F.Y.I., ice jams don't happen on the ocean. So for the sake of simplicity, I'll just pretend an ice jam is some icebergs in the way. ^_^☆

Sailing off the Western Coast of Aimon Island

"Knight's job? There are knights here? What do they do?"

Tsure watched Alain head to the bow and head back to the cockpit and was not expecting the boat to turn so quickly. Reacting with almost catlike reflexes and to save himself from falling, he moved his staff behind him and managed to save himself from falling by inching his way upwards, using his staff as a rope.

"Yeah, I could guess that boats and ice jams don't go well together. Are those called ice jams? That's what the old man called 'em."

Tsure looked around the boat. Relaxing somewhat, he kept his staff ready, but not supporting him.

"Vampyri means Vampire, I presume. I've never seen one myself." Tsure suddenly shivered, the ocean air getting to him just a bit. He had forgotten what it was like to be at the shore, and it was much colder than he last realized.

"All these are stories though? Things passed to one another by word of mouth?" Alain suddenly sighed, without much explanation, and Tsure asked, "And what's with the sigh, anyhow?" in a curious tone.

In A Boat Off the Western Coast of Aimon Island

Osiris sighed. He was lying back in his small rowboat, staring up at the sky. He was too lazy to row, although he new he should probably make it to land sometime soon. But man, when it was this cold he just couldn't find the energy to do...well, anything.
He sat up with a groan and took up the paddles. Just before he dipped the blades back in the water, he saw a large boat a ways off. He looked around and saw that they were closer to him than the coast. Looks like he had found a way out of rowing all that way.
"Hey!" he called out. He stood and waved his arms. "Ho! The boat there!"
