I had this up in another pagan guild over two years ago. It didn't meet on agreeable terms there.
I believe there is a difference between the soul and the spirit, though some others may deem them one in the same.
To me, the spirit represents the present life we live. It is what stays when we pass on, to represent me in this present life, which would either go to where I'm supposed to go, whether it would be the Summerlands, or what would stay to haunt a place or person or thing.
The soul, on the other hand, is the one that is changeable, what transforms into the next life after this one. It's me, but not me, as I move on to a different life.
Ever think to wonder what it would be like if you encounter a spirit and somehow realize it was you in another life? That is possible, if the spirit stays behind, and the soul is recycled.
On that note, I was thinking about the term "lost soul" - what would it mean exactly? I have the feeling, according to my belief, that a lost soul is a soul that hadn't been able to move on to the next life, and is stuck as a spirit would be.
Does anyone else have similar or different views to share?

Does anyone else have similar or different views to share? I understand where you're getting at, and it's weird your theory wasn't well met in the last guild. I rather like your idea though, its like reincarnation but then not. It's not as general, I guess is the word, as reincarnation seems to be. It'd be pretty interesting, say your spirit stayed in the house you passed on in, and later down the road your reincarnated soul somehow manages to end up in the same house. That'd be pretty sweet, in a deja vue sort of way. I wonder how each would react...
As for lost souls, I could see them as a spirit thats stuck and cant move on. Reminds me of Ghost Whisperer in a way, where the spirits remain until they realize what happened, why they died and whatnot in order to move on. Good idea!!

In a way it is like reincarnation, as it is the soul that reincarnates. The spirit would be that former life. What I was trying to say is, if you come across the spirit of that former life, and that spirit is like, "You're me!", and you, with that soul, is like, "I'm you!"

well, in shamanism, and gnostic ways, the difference between soul and spirit, is that spirit itslinked to you, its a part of you, nobody can have the same spirit as you, soul, in the other hand, means your mind side, your concience, the part of you that guides you, but it may also guide others, in ancient shamanism of south america, soul was only one, it was the guide of humanity, that linked each one of us humans to others, including nature, spirit, was what made each human unique, each personal human, had a personal spirit....

basically put, my belief system is that our spirit is really just our "footprint" or left over energy from our soul left on this plane of existence once we die. and our soul is what "pilots" our bodies, i guess you could say. does that make sense at all?

Yes it makes sense and when we have a moment where neither of us are working, we'll have a very long, indepth discussion about it. for now, since i'm ordered to relax, we'll just leave it at that.

My personal belief at this moment is that we have one soul that gets recycled through reincarnation (not always as a animal) and that are bodies are literally just a vehicle for the soul in your current life

As much as I like to go into human brain functions, I really have no idea what my opinions are on the spirit/soul division. I've explored ideas but getting the concepts of spirit/soul division to wrap around my head is near impossible considering that I like to hear many opinions before forming my own, opinions with reason though. (Not to offend anyone.)
