I'm planning on upgrading my computer in the very near future. But I'm wondering, what kind of componants do you need to get a decent fps whilt raiding?

So in the interest of learning.

please post your specs, your graphics settings (a rough estimate such as "highest possible, lowest possible, all on low 'cept for view distance on high" will do) and what kind of fps you get in a typical 25 man boss fight.

I'll start as an example.

Computer Specs:
P4 3.1ghz
1gb ram
ATI radeon 9250agp 128mb
Settings:
Lowest possible
FPS in a 25 man fight:
3-5

Computer Specs:
Processor:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4200+, MMX, 3DNow (2 CPUs), ~2.2GHz
Memory:
2046MB RAM
Hard Drive:
240 GB
Video Card:
NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT OC (528 MB or something)

Settings:
Everything maxed except shadows because I think they're ugly. 5 fps less with max shadows.

FPS in a 25 man fight:
40-50

As you can see... WoW does not take much to load. As a side note, I can play games like Bioshock, but water etc looks ugly. Xfire streaming doesn't bog down my computer much but for some reason video recording sort of does unless the encounter is indoors. (don't know why because it doesn't really affect my fps) I have a 30 inch monitor and play WoW on the highest resolution it will let me.

WoW is more dependent on the GPU and RAM than the video card, tbqh. You can buy a low grade card (mine was like $100 2 yrs ago? lol) and put it in a system with a good amount of ram and a dual core processor and it will run fine.

Oh and if you're getting a new computer, don't get vista unless you have 4+ gigs of ram. WOTLK won't run on a vista system with less than 2 gigs and even then I would imagine it would bog down the game quite a bit. I can barely run WC3 on my laptop without vista causing problems, but hey, that's why I only bought it for school.

Thanks, that was very helpful. biggrin

I'll be streaming my arena games, so no real worries about that one, but it's nice to know those specs'll run wow smoothly.

I'm now worrying about vista, I'll wait for windows 7 methinks. smile

Thanks agan. biggrin

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo CPU T9300 @ 2.5 GHz
Memory: 4 GB RAM
Hard Drive: 149 GB
Video card: Not sure, don't remember offhand. It's an Nvidia Quadro of some level
graphics settings max

60 fps anywhere, if I lag it's server lag.
