For Anime Weekend Atlanta this year, the theme of the ball is stream punk.

I've decided to use this pattern:

and just not make the under shirt and go for a look sort of like this:

and maybe make a cage for it so ultimately it would look something like this:

the skirt would look like that anyway.

I'm going to use the coat from the pattern and wear something like this under it when I'm not wearing it:

and maybe some kind of ruffly shirt under the vest. I'll have to see what my partner whats to wear... maybe we can match slightly or something.

I was wondering if this is formal enough for a black tie dance.
what do you guys thing?

I think it would most certainly be formal enough. I can't wait to see! And do you have any idea where I could find a pair of stockings like that? I've been looking for ages...

That sounds like a fantastic idea. Be careful when matching fabrics, all the weight and matching the colors can be a bit tricky. I, too, would love to see some images of your completed dress. Perhaps some of you with your partner?

I've found on a gothic-lolita store website some awesome looking stockings. I can't guarentee anything, though, because I've never ordered from them. http://www.fanplusfriend.com/index.htm

I posted my idea to the AWA fourm but it was declined. I'm still going to make it though, just maybe not compleated for the ball.

I dont know... my mother continues to refuse to take me to get fabric...I'm very good at NOT matching fabric. I dont want the farbrics to match, but still somewhat match in tone. I'm not sure how to explain it, but everytime i do it always comes out amazing.

that picture of the stockings is from :
