On Wings Of Song

Ookay, so there's this chick in our band who can't march to save her life, but she got the best marcher award.

She's:
-always out of step.
-waddles and or walks to set.
-can't play worth crap.
-and then yells at me when I try to correct her...
(I'm section leader btw)

She doesn't even care about the music either...she's just in it for the dating service that comes with it D=

And our band is all politics now to...
Like this chicks parents basically own the band and prolly would if it wasn't under the BD's control =/

Does anyone else find this a little bit unjust and unfair to the rest of us?
And does any other band have this type of problem?

And another question...
Has anyone ever been in a college M Band while in highschool?

That sounds fun to me =]

That is pretty unfair. Band politics can get nasty.

I haven't heard of any high schoolers in a college marching band, but I am positive it happens. My college is just starting a marching band, and I'm sure we'd accept high school students.

unfair, but its the only reason that she got the award is pecause he parents are suckups. otherwise she'd probably would have been kicked out. and no.

Well, my friend(a senor trombone player who is bound for glory lol) told me that I could talk to the director of music at the local university.
He said that they had offered him a chance to do so, but he refused.

And yes...Band politics are horrid =/

Yeah...and I asked my BD why he chose her and he said that "she was in step and hit her sets in the recordings"...
I think He prolly mistook someone else for her or something -.-;;

I got best marcher for cymbals the past two years for Winter Percussion biggrin
and I always got most outstanding and most spirited for color/winterguard =D

Rookie of the Year is the award that always bothers me...

That's pretty darn retarded...
I got the best marcher award last year
but I have to admit I'm pretty beastly... when I pay attention
My BD is too much of a hard a** to give into band politics.
This one kid's dad has been in the program for 6 years now and essentially owns the band,
but he sucks biggrin
so, he's not getting anything special

Now, the guard, that's a different story....

One of our baritones got "Best Salesman Award" because he sold like 10 boxes of 52 chocolate bars.
He doesn't know like anyone at the school besides band and his class, but he would ask everyone who walked by and so he payed off his band fees like that.

its really kinda common they have something like that in every school just different programs. In my school they do that in the football team. Its not fair to anyone.

For my band, the banquet awards are generally popular awards. We vote on them. And it's pretty much .. ridiculous. "Biggest bando" literally means, the largest one -___-" "Best marcher" is always from front ensemble -- no one from there ever marches during shows, obviously. Stuff like that > . >

All our band awards are joke awards. They're never awarded seriously!

Ugh, there was a girl like that last year in band. She was a senior and she waddled and was out of step the whole time. Geeze...she was obsessed with horses

Yea our band awards at my school are jokes and are for popularity and our laughs except a few but our most athletic went to the fattest and least athletic in our band
and our best marcher has never marched but i got the funniest and the wildest and thats right on
but our band director is to hard on us to let us march out of step
if we do he yells and depending on how bad you are is how long overtime at the school you have to spend working on marching but hey it works we almost always get best in show so i guess theres no reason to complain
