So from what i read on yahoo a little while ago, the Ps3 and the psp were both beaten by the PS2...coming in 6th and 7th respectively on the number of consoles being sold last month....iirc.
Do you guys think this is going to be trend? and i know this has been said before...but do you think Sony will go the way of Sega and be just a software dev?

No.
Sony's situation is no where near as bad as Sega's was.

As i recall, Sega was not making any profit on their consols, infact sales were just not there.
Sony can also be happy because every single PS2 = profit, besides, the last few months have not been overly kind to anyone, so money isnt always there.

In a sense Sony has made ground in the handheld market.
The PSP is the only handheld that has been able to stand on its own next to Nintendo. Which is an accomplishment itself.

Sailor is right, no other handheld since the launch of the first Gameboy has really held up against it, or any of its varriations since and its evolution into the DS. Heck, the Game Gear has what? 2 versions I think then vanished.

The GameGear had one version. Sega did release the Nomad which was a portable Genesis.
Another thing to consider is that the DSlite and DSi where made because of the PSP.

I think people underestimate Sonys PSP a bit too often, myself, I prefer it over the DS, and from what I have heard, the DSi might not have been a great move for Nintendo.

The DSi is fine but like I said it is Nintendo playing catch up to Sony. The majority of the DSi is what the PSP has been doing since day 1.
I think Nintendo has confused its target market with the DSi. In a lot of game commericals they claim that a DS game can be played on both "DSi" and "DS". This would make something think the DSi is a completely new thing while it is just a DS with updated firmware or IMO the software on the DSi should have been on the DS since day 1.

They may have taken their "all ages" approach a bit to literal this time. Also, the big risk is confusing customers, since if you confuse the ones with the money with your ad, you may loose the money all together.
