The Upper Hallway

The halls of Fa'e HQ's second story are carpeted in soft beige, with pale gray-green wallpaper. Here and there on the outer wall are windows framed in rich brown wood, interspersed with electric candle-lamp wall sconces that mirror those on the inner walls. The inside walls also bear the occasional portrait between the wooden doors leading to various rooms.

The spiral staircases from below arrive here, one on the left side and one on the right. It is possible to run from staircase to staircase provided one detours through the Entertainment Room on the lower right. Those with difficulties descending stairs can simply stand at the head of the stairs and say "Drop me!" to find themselves standing in the Inner Hallway below.

Along the front of the house, between the bathrooms and the Entertainment Room, the inner wall of the hall gives way to a decorative railing overlooking the Common Room below, and the one-way windows of the bedrooms and Airi's Sanctum. From here, you can see that the great bay windows overlooking the Common Room from Airi's quarters are decorated with stained glass, in an elaborate scene of a stylized garden.

Morty was going to make the point that he hadn't actually learned how to fly yet (Laylana was supposed to teach him, but, they, uh, kinda got distracted) when he decided better of it. Afterall, what good was telling them he couldn't fly? Rolling his orange eyes only once he headed up the staircase, with the odd feeling that he was in some scooby doo mystery. The 'gang' following behind him as he lead, walking up some creepy a** stair case in a single file line.

Except for being upside down. The fa'e wondered to himself up how long this would last, and he hoped it would last untill he was atleast above a trampoline or something.

There did not seem to be anything overly horrific while the group walked up the stairs, though the general din and chaos around them died down a bit. Mutilated walls greeted them, sections of wallpaper peeling off like dead skin to reveal a few eyes embedded in the walls. They watched the group intently, peeking out from behind the peeled wrappings.

Morty's weight made the stairs squeal painfully, the sound seemingly much too loud for their current surroundings. Strands of hair hung from the ceiling.

When they reached the top of the stairs, most everything looked warped and slightly melted, the furniture along the walls sweating profusely. Something strange and dark sat in the corner, the shadows of two heads peaking over their shoulders. They eyed the Fa'e approaching and scooted as far back into the corner as they could, wishing to remain unseen.

Following Mortimer carefully, Arrien came to the next floor- and found the gravity mercifully returned to normal. This resulted in a few seconds of dizziness; staggering a little as she readjusted to being upright, the Jack-of-all-Trades leaned momentarily against a wall to recover her balance.

And found it blinking at her.

"EUUUGH!" As if the doorknob hadn't been bad enough, now the walls had eyes, too?!

Aylana shivers wrapping her wings just alittle tighter around her body as she looks around at the walls. She couldn't believe the walls had eyes and that they were looking at her. Groaning she sighs biting at her bottom lip "When in the hell did Fa'e come alive?" she watches the corner for a moment before turning away from it.

She wasn't going to mess with anything unless she had no choice, this place was freaking her out enough as it was. She didn't need anything else that might cause her to have an early birth or even worse.

Cerena slowly crawled up the stairs after everyone, making herself very small and hiding behind Arrien. She regarded the far walls nervously, shoulders shaking; she finally stood straight with her heels together and resolved not to be afraid. However bad she thought she had it, Lethe must be having an even worse time.

But how is it that such an evil place could only reak of.. of nothing? It was one thing to feel hatred and pain, which is what she expected, but to not feel anything at all was even more unsettling... "S..should we split up? To check all the rooms more quickly? The sooner we find the kids the better..."

Something was clicking in Morty. Earlier this had scared the hell out of him, but he was slowly adjusting. All those hours of playing scary games and watching horror movies was starting to kick in, because everyone knew that no matter how much people in movies watched horror movies they never seemed to have the smarts to survive. Morty, however, was just edging on breaking his own fourth wall.

"N-no, never split up. And.." Eyes snapped over to Cerena, ears folding back against his head. "The person in the back always dies first. We should check out the entire area before-" Only now did those same eyes catch something as they turned back to scan the room. What the ******** were those? He skittered back a few steps and wished very suddenly that he had a baseball bat or something. It would just feel so very right at this moment.

The small beings in the corner regarded Morty like a parent who just caught their child with their hand in the cookie jar. The two of them shared a pair eyes between them, one blue in the center of the face of one being, a red on the other. As they squished their heads together, they formed one complete face. They looked no older than toddlers, though they were completely devoid of innocence. One had skin of very dark blue, almost mindnight in color. The other had deep, tan skin, almost black.

Everything else in the hallway remained still, save for one door to the right, which was slightly ajar, leading to the green bedroom.

"Check the entire area before what?" Not seeming to notice the object of Mortimer's attention, Arrien was focused on the door leading to the green bedroom; if the kids had gone through here, would they have left the door open? It seemed sort of like the thoughtless thing a child might do... but then again, given how scary everything out in the hallway was, Arrien thought that they'd be a lot more likely to close the door behind them to keep anything from the hallway from getting in with them....

Cerena strained as hard as she could to locate the auras of the children again, headwings stretching out as far as they could go with every feather fluffed. Again, she could only find nothing, and she realized with a start that she couldn't even locate Arrien and Mortimer and Aylana, though they were standing right next to her.

In a new state of distress, she almost missed Mortimer's words. Almost. Squeaking, the young girl obligingly moved up, sandwiching herself somewhere in the middle of the group, and shivering.

Especially not Aylana. Because for some reason, the blue-skinned Fa'e didn't read so much as "AYLANA" as "HOLY ******** s**t WHAT THE HELL IS THAT THING AND WHY DOES IT LOOK LIKE AYLANA".
PostPosted: Fri Oct 27, 2006 6:49 pm

Cerena's headwings twitched relentlessly; if they could, they would've said "Screw this s**t!" and abandoned ship, uprooting themselves from the girl's otherwise empty head and fleeing.

Finally cluing in, Cerena slowly revolved on her heel to blink and stare -- both with her eyes and with her minute sixth sense -- at Aylana. "Um, guys," she said in a very small voice, "I t-think we have c-company, and not the good kind."

One of the bedroom doors creaked open slowly and a blue-capped head poked out. The tassles on the cap twitched as it's owner shivered.

No, the house had not gone back to normal. Which was probably why no one had come to find her. Seung almost went back into the room. At least she knew everything was okay there. But...the downstairs had been okay before and then went all scary. Maybe the bedroom would do that too.

Then she saw people in the hallway. And not scary-looking people either. Seung decided it would be better to be around big people. They could protect her at least. The girl burst out of the room and ran over to the group.

Aylana arches a brow looking around before she stare blankly at Cerena. "You have got to be kidding with me. I'm not this creature that is trying to kill us, this place is playing tricks with your mind. Don't give into it, that the worse thing to do." shaking her head she cross her arms under her chest as she looks around.

Searching outwards again she bites at her bottom lip, one of the young one was close. Turning she spot the child running towards them, it wasn't any of the young ones she knew. Unfolding her wings carefully not to scare her she kneels holding her arms out towards her "Seung?"

She continues to scan the area keeping her mind open so she is able to keep tack of the unseen. It might be the safest thing to do so they new what to expect from them.

Arrien wasn't all that clear on what was going on, but the events to her mind were simple enough:

Her friend, Cerena, had accused the Fa'e she didn't know of being something other than she appeared.

Said Fa'e denied it, then promptly called over one of the missing kids to her side.

In an ideal world, Arrien would be able to instantly ascertain the truth of the matter, and jump into the spotlight with a bold relevation, probably based off of some observation of a small detail that proved her hunch, and deal with the matter from there. But the HQ was hardly an ideal world at the moment, and all she really knew was this. If Aylana was somehow a threat, then Seung was likely to walk right into her arms without realizing anything was amiss until it was too late. And Arrien wasn't about to let that happen.

"Hey, hey hey! Hold up, Seung, don't move." Skirting around the winged Fa'e, the Jack-of-all-Trades had a look of apologetic suspicion as she attempted to get between the little mothfish and the potential danger. "No offense, lady, but come on. We've got no way to tell if you're being honest, here, and I trust Cere to not say something unless she's got reason."
