Mawkrin came up with a good point in the Magickal Names thread. There are some people who, if they want to do you harm, and they know of your magickal or true name (or if they have something that belongs to you, even if it's one strand of your hair), they can get to you via a psychic attack. However, you can repel that attack.
Imagine you have a web around you - close your eyes really tight, to the point where you can see colored dots floating in front of your eyes. Think of those dots forming a web around you where nothing can get at you. Either that, or think of a force field like on Star Trek, like they have for the brig cells. Attacks that are launched at you should not be able to harm you.
Here's another type of shielding, it can work for empaths: if someone comes up to you, and they try to bring you down by telling you all their problems, just briefly mentally surround yourself in a full-body shield of rose quartz (as it is a stone of love and healing) - you can still be there for that person, be an ear to listen to and a shoulder to cry on, but that shield should protect you from their emotions dragging you down.

Great post! Everyone needs to learn how to shield. Can you imagine how the world would be if even the non-metaphysically inclined learned how to do this? rofl Excellent post!

I wonder if imagining a different type of crystal - such as obsidian, known for physical protection - would affect it?
There's also a few other crystals that can be carried to help strengthen the protection from psychic attack, but at this exact moment I do not know them. They're in my book though. If anyone's interested, I can list them.

As far as I know, black stones, such as onyx and obsidian, are good for protection. There's also black tourmaline.
I also want to mention that sea salt is good for protection and cleansing.

i found birthstones work very well as shields. with myself and students i've had, that birth connection to that stone strengthens it and adds attributes to it that it normally wouldn't have.

I have heard of many things about shielding, such as: using a 3-layered sphere of energy, using stones, using talismans/charms, or using "cloaks".
All have positive energy but you can influence some things, such as energy-based shields, to have extra attributes.
Has anyone else heard of this?
[Edit]: I found someone else who actually does these things!
