Melody has to admit; she's rather grateful that her father had arranged for some alone time for Melody and Tsubame. Not that she didn't want them all to be a big, happy family again, but even Melody wanted to be able to talk to her mother without her father hanging on her arm, burbling and cooing like an overgrown toddler.
Even if it IS nearly impossible for her to get around easily at this point.
She doesn't bother knocking on the front door to Boyan's house; until recently, this was Melody's house as well, after all. In a way, it still FEELS like hers. The sights, the sounds, the smells... all of it familiar and comforting like a warm blanket.
She projects a tentative greeting, closing the door behind her. Hello? Mom?

Tsubame would never say that the past day had been overwhelming, but even she would have to admit that it was a bit unexpected. By the time she had managed to detach Boyan from her- well, it had been morning before she had managed that. At any rate, her husband had insisted that she take up residence here, and Riry had wandered off in search of alternative lodgings. (She had the foresight to confiscate certain key documents before Riry had left. It wasn't that she didn't trust Riry- it was just that she didn't trust Riry's attentions span.)
It was a nice house, but still unfamiliar. There was, however, no reason that she should be unable to play hostess here, especially not if it was for her own daughter. She had some lovely ginger biscuits that she had picked up in London (technically omiyage, but they had a habit of snacking on the things they bought as "souvineers,") and some good quality tea to go along with it.
Tsubame was at home anywhere.
Ah, is that Melody? Tsubame is in the kitchen. If Melody would come to join her, the water's about to boil.

Melody peeks in, chewing her lower lip anxiously as she surveys the kitchen. (Ah, it would seem the portal's still there, right next to the refrigerator)
It's amazing, she thinks, just how unfamiliar her mother has become. How long has it been since they'd last seen one another? How old was Melody? How old was Tsutchi?
She tries her very best to keep those thoughts to herself, however; she doesn't want her mother to think that Melody is bitter. Really, Melody ISN'T. A little sad, perhaps, to think of how a family as close-knit as Boyan, Melody, and their three granddaughter/nieces had been missing a grandmother and uncle.
--So, mommy's settling in all right?

Tsubame is settling in just fine.
It's probably someplace she's going to stay for a while, and while she hasn't yet seen very much of the place, it seems pleasant enough. The house is unfamiliar, but her family is... her family's changed quite a bit, hasn't it?
The three-week trip stretched out to significantly longer than originally intended.
Ah, how did Melody take her tea? Tsubame- well, she doesn't recall.

Sweet, Melody clarifies.
But... stay "for a while"? Melody kind of hoped mommy would stay, well... forever. Especially since she'll have grandchildren VERY SOON and... sweatdrop

Two lumps then? Tsubame considers for a second, before adding in two more.
Forever.... Forever is a very long time, isn't it? Tsubame can't rightly say, but there are a few other obligations. She hadn't meant to be gone for so long, but as long as there's a place to return to, it's not as if she's never coming back.
She does hope to be around to see the grandchildren, and if all goes as planned, she will.

Then... Then next time, Melody and Daddy can come too! Melody bites her lip so hard she fears her teeth could puncture skin any second now.
She takes a seat at the kitchen table, clasping her hands together with a steady tide of anxiety rolling off and away from her. She hadn't come to her old home to lecture her mother, or to whine or complain, but right now, sitting in that kitchen with her mother standing there as if she'd never even left... Melody doesn't even know how she's supposed to feel. What she can say, what she can do. She doesn't want to drive a wedge between herself and her mother, but at the same time, all she can think about is just how LONG it's been and how Daddy would try to hide the pain he was in and how her absence and Tsuyoshi's absence had created such a huge void in their lives that--
Melody shakes those private thoughts off with a frown.
She doesn't mean to be so selfish.

Tsubame thinks that going on a family vacation is a splendid idea. She wouldn't take Boyan along if the trip was for business. (Perhaps Melody, because Tsubame would like to think that her beloved daughter is somewhat less spazzy than her father.)
She's not so upset about the fact that Melody is upset as much as she is mildly perturbed that Melody would be so overt about it. Potential weakness should be- unless....
Ah, that was to be expected of her daughter, wasn't it? Tsubame was rather pleased by the thought.

Tsubame doesn't think that there's anything wrong with being selfish once in a while.

Melody bites her lower lip at that, resting her chin on her hands.
...So does that mean... mommy will stay here then? For a long time, at least, if not forever? And always stay close enough so that Melody and Daddy know she still thinks about them?

Of course Tsubame thinks about them.
She can't guarantee that she'll be nearby, but she thinks she'll be around for the foreseeable future. And that's quite a while, isn't it?
Even if she has to leave again, she at least knows that this time, her messages will arrive at the correct address.

Melody certainly hopes so...
She and Daddy just... really really missed her. And still really really miss Tsutchi.

Unfortunately, Tsutchi, at times, does not know when he ought to listen to his mother, and they parted ways a few months ago in Amsterdam. Tsubame can't quite say for certain, but Riry claimed that they were in Kuala Lumpur, of all places, a couple of weeks ago.
Tsubame has only the best taste in postcard selection, and she has a great deal of photographs of the places she's been. Melody can start a collection.

Maybe when things settle down once the babies are born.
Melody actually doesn't know-- did her mother ever meet Boyue? Melody's now-husband? And the father of the chibis and? Really, Mommy's missed so MUCH!
