Alright, folks. I translated a song from Yiddish. Please tell me if I should be ashamed of myself. I tried to be literal and word-for-word whilst preserving the yiddishkayt. However, you're free to tell me I failed at both and my tuchus should be poched. Suggestions and constructive comments are also appreciated.

I'm so sorry, Awkward. My grandmother speaks Yiidish as a first language. I really should know it, but alas... I only know a few words.
I can't help you.
BTW, are you and Behatyz starting up a band or something? xd

Dr. Awkward So, what, do you think Hershele Ostropoler was a member of Knesset~? Herschel of Ostropol is a fictional character I love who tangles with Hanukkah goblins among other challenges in his various adventures.

Lumanny the Space Jew Dr. Awkward So, what, do you think Hershele Ostropoler was a member of Knesset~? Herschel of Ostropol is a fictional character I love who tangles with Hanukkah goblins among other challenges in his various adventures. Nope, he was a real person. He started out slaughtering kosher meat, but wound up a poor man, wandering the Ukraine. Eventually he made his living in the court of Rabbi Boruch, the grandson of Baal Shem Tov. Rabbi Boruch had black melancholia and Hershele's jokes were the only thing that could pull him out of it. He became a Yiddish folk hero who tangles with Hanukkah goblins among other challenges as you said.

Also, I'm a descendant of the Baabl Shem tov by Legend. biggrin

In fact, I was actually trying to lampoon the old attitude that Chasidim are the only true Jews, or at least more Jewish than everyone else. This attitude was held by Kafka and implied by Woody Allen. Ah, well, older Jews get my humor. . .
