For those who have read Maison Ikkoku, remember the chapter about "Saying it with Flowers"?

Well, I found this at another forum:
http://www.animeotaku.info/showthread.php?t=22745

Quote:
Kikyou (Chinese Bellflower or Balloon Flower)
language - gentle passion, sincerity, unchanging love, obedience, kind warmness
date - April 23, August 28, September 1

Very interesting. Perhaps Rumiko Takahashi was trying to 'say something with flowers'?

I haven't gotten to that part in Maison Ikkoku yet, but that's really cool!

I think that Takahashi was probably trying to say something, considering the fact that her character names usually have some sort of meaning to look into.

Thanks for sharing! 3nodding

YES! She WAS!

I read an interview on how she found that name in the Inu-Yasha artbook.

She was searching for a name, and on the television came a picture of the Kikyou flower, and under it, its meaning.

Unrequited Love

And Takahashi decided then and there that 'Kikyou' was it. >< It's in the artbook, if you look close enough.

Ah, cool. I'll look that up sometime.

Yeah, I knew her name meant "Chinese Bellflower."

In the states they're more commonly known as 'balloon flowers,' though.
