Maha eyed her target and took a fighting position. Gathering her strength, she suddenly jumped forward and swung at it with bared sharp claws. Four thin scars were left where her claws had hit the bark. Her ears lowered, it wasn't very impressive. And now her paw hurt. 'I'm not doing this right.'
Sitting down and tilting her head, the cub stared at the trunk with a thoughtful expression. What was it that she was doing wrong? She wanted to be a good Fighter when she grew up. I have to do better than this. A smile settled on her face as she though of the future. She imagined herself as a big and strong lioness and skillful too. She would defend her family and pride. Protect them from anyone with ill intentions.
Yes, that was the person she wanted to be. But until then...she had a lot of training to do. Landing a proper hit on this tree was as good place to start as any. She prepared for another try.

Making his rounds, again, the sole fighter of the pride came upon one of his little cousins apparently having an altercation with a tree. Tilting his head to the side as he watched her, taking note of her actions. Her form was bad and her juvenile claws not yet ready to scratch up trees, from his point of view it looked like she could seriously hurt herself. Approaching, the scared leopon spoke to the cub as he came up from her left, "Maha, good to see you, did the tree offend you?" It was, sadly, a serious question. It was probably a play fight, but he had to make sure the trees weren't causing problems either.

Just as she swung at the tree again Maha noticed someone approaching with the corner of her eye. She got distracted and the result was that her claws got stuck in the bark. "Hi Sewelo!" She said as she pulled her paw in an attempt to free it. Even though their encounter was unexpected she was glad to see him. "Just the person I needed." She flashed him a toothy grin before returning her attention to her stuck paw. Her last pull was stronger than intended and when her paw was freed Maha was thrown on the ground on her back.
Looking up at her cousin she smiled again. "Do you think you could like..give me a lesson or something? As you can see, I'm not doing terribly well."

Sewelo was madly surprised that Maha had wanted to see him, he hadn't heard about it else he would have found her sooner. His eyes followed her as she yanked her paw away from the tree and ended up on her back. In doing so he ended up with a tilted head wondering what it was that she was trying to accomplish.
Hearing her request he at least had an idea of what was going on, and indeed he felt like he could help. The battle he walked away from that gave him all his scars did teach him a whole lot about fighting. The best lesson, enemies don't stand tree still and allow you to scratch at them. "First, you picked the wrong target, less the trees get up and attack, even then they would be moving, fighting them won't help you." While that would be a completely crazy analogy for most of feline kind, Sewelo honestly looked at the tree like he was waiting for it to make a move.
Satisfied his attention was back on his cousin, "Second, unless you have your enemy down for the count, a claw strike should only take a moment before you back off. Trying to dig into your enemy if not to hold on to them is not the best idea. It doesn't hurt that when you grow up, your claws get longer and harder so scratching things doesn't hurt as much." To illustrate that point, the male put his large paw in front of Maha and completely unsheathed the two inches of dark claw.
There was a lot she could do even now before her body had grown into the warrior she would undoubtedly be, "You have speed and agility on your side, if you can out maneuver and our wit, nothing can get passed you." It was what saved the skin off his back when he fought the Demon King. His mother was stronger than he was, for that he had no doubt, so he knew females were as strong as males, but they were also typically quicker. The strategy was safer for his kin and fellow member of the pride.

Maha rolled off her back and stood up. She watched Sewelo, wondering if he would help her. He was a busy leopon after all, what with being the only Fighter at the moment. When he spoke a wide smile appeared on her face. So he was going to help her! Looking at the tree again, Maha realised he was right. His words were a little confusing but she understood what he meant. "I guess I should have asked someone to train with me." She admitted, feeling a bit stupid. "Like a play-fight or something."
Maha lowered her head, eyes wide, as she examined his claws closely. She looked at her own paw. It was so tiny in comparison. She extended her small claws and put her paw in front of his. Yup, tiny, very much so. "I understand. So I'll just have to focus on different training exercises for now. Until my claws get stronger." She looked up, focusing her attention on Sewelo and what he was saying again.
Speed. She could do that, train herself to be faster. So that was what made a good warrior. Speed, agility and a sharp mind. Well, that last one was probably where she was weakest. Her tendency to over think things was her biggest problem. But she was going to overcome it.
"I hope I can be as good a Fighter as you are. One day." She said with a determined look. "But...I guess I'll need a lot of training, huh?" She asked, thinking over everything she had just learned.

Sewelo had his own mother to train with, and his father, besides growing up with brothers. Attacking a tree would never occur to him growing up. Maha got what he was trying to say well, that was his solution. He was willing to help her learn to fight, that was his place in the pride and he had no troubles training help.
Eyes fallen with her, he looked at the differences himself. He nodded his head when she said she'd train her speed. Speed and paw power are similar as he saw it, you use your paws to walk and also to fight.
Grinning the male puffed out his chest a little at her praise. She thought he was a good fighter, certainly he tried very hard. "I practice by fighting with my brothers, my father and even yours." Smiling he fondly remembered the first time he met his father and his uncle, both had fallen to his awesome might.
Sheathing his claws, the male playfully tosseled her head tuft and told her, "I'll help you train; guarding the pride is a lot of walking after all." Grinning, he was eager to help her, so far only he and his mother really took it upon themselves to patrol. It was his job as a Fighter and she always told him it was her job as his mother.

"Well...I think I could ask Kanzi or Kobe to train with me next time." Maha tilted her head, wondering how in the world had this idea not occurred to her earlier. There were a bunch of cubs she could play fight with in the pride. Some of them probably were also thinking of becoming Fighters. Now there was an interesting thought. She ought to investigate this later on.
"Alright!" Maha grinned happily. She now had a teacher, this was so great. She had thought of asking her father but he was a hunter and she wanted to learn from someone who was of the rank she was aiming for. "Where do we begin then?" She asked eagerly.
