**Home and History**
Tristan grew up as a girl with a boy’s name seeking to prove herself as a mad scientist in a field dominated by men. She inherited a laboratory full of things that bubbled and hissed from her father, and rather than letting the legacy fall into disrepair has spent much of her time mastering the equipment and becoming skilled with the renegade science and technology available to her. In recent years she has managed to rise to minor prominence, but is still seeking that big discovery that will push her over the edge into fame. Ultimately she hopes to ascend to the high council of the Mad Scientist's Union, a feat no woman has ever been able to accomplish.

Tune is Tristan's own personal grease monkey. A former street urchin in his late teens or early twenties, Tune sleeps on a cot in the lab and helps with general upkeep and tasks Tristan considers herself above. He is hopeful that Tristan might offer him an actual apprenticeship instead of drudge-work someday, but that has yet to happen. Unlike Tristan, Tune is not yet jaded by the world. He's a kind soul, bright and optimistic. Why he has chosen his career path is something of a mystery.
