Xinavane was waiting for her new trainee. Kaimelar was her name, a Mlisha. One out of two she would be training... And she knew the girl's father quite well, so she was looking forward to meeting his daughter. Around her own daughter's age... she wondered if they had known each other. But perhaps not. Her daughters were not all that social. Even her son tended to be a little... lax in that reguard. She should have gotten them to go out more.
"Hum..." She mumbled thoughtfully, waiting for the girl to show up. There weren't many cubs to practice on right now, since they had all grown up recently, but there were still a few. And really, she was looking forward to having two more lionesses to help her around the pride. She was used to running around and doing almost everything herself now.

Mel was excited. Her training was to officially begin! The adolescent trotted towards the place where she was to meet Xinavane, a wide smile on her face and the dried out flower heads around her neck rattling. She looked up to the pride's Ardhi. Strong and reliable, Mel knew the older lioness had been very, very busy. And Mel looked forward to the day when she would be able to help out.
When she spotted the darker form, she quickened her pace. "Good day, Ardhi! I look forward to learning from you!" And she did. The dream Mel and Kai had nurtured since cubhood was drawing ever closer.

Xinavane smiled at the young lioness, nodding her head as she came close. She didn't intend to be a harsh woman while training the girl, but she would be firm. She was looking forward to being a teacher other than her own. Even though she was sure she would be training her own daughter sooner rather than later...
"And a good day to you Kaimelar." She nodded, seeming pleased by the girl's respect and enthusiasm, "I look forward to teaching you. May I ask, why have you chosen to be a Mlisha?" She asked, tilting her head thoughtfully. She did want to know. She knew why she had become the Ardhi, and she liked to know what inspired the youth.

Mel blinked, having not quite expected the question. But she smiled peacefully and answered nonetheless. "Because someone has to watch the little ones. Someone has to make sure the mothers and fathers do not worry while they are working. And someone has to teach the cubs, so they can grow up to be bright lights in the night sky, and choose their own paths in the world." She and Kai had figured it out when they were so much smaller...and Mel had held her reasons close to her heart ever since.
"I want there to be more smiles in the pride. Real ones, not strained fake ones. And this is the way I know best how to get those smiles."

Xinavane smiled as she listened to the girl speak. A good reason, to try and protect the young of the pride while the warriors were away, "Very good answer. It is true that while the warriors of our pride seek to rid the world of evil, those who stay behind are just as important. Our job is to show our children how the world can be... a better place, here among us. That they do not have to live with evil. That they can fight back. And be safe."
She already felt a fondness for this girl. "Our duty is to insure that this pride will always be a safe-haven for those who fight against evil. If we can bring smiles to them, then I think we should." Because the lives of those who tried to wipe the wicked from existance... would be difficult. They had to protect the pride itself.

Mel was glad her answer was good. Because it was HER answer, the one she gave to any who asked. "I want any who come under my care to know that they're safe and sound." She wasn't the strongest of lions...but if someone would threaten any under her care, they would find she wasn't to be underestimated. "What sort of things do we teach the little ones? Since Mlisha are supposed to be teachers, as well as keepers." And surrogate parents, for those who might loose their parents or didn't see them often.

"As a Mlisha, it will be your duty to teach the little ones our values. About the evils of demons, and our duty to defend the innocent from them. The demons could, at any time, try to kidnap the children... we have to make sure they know who their family is, and who the enemy is, lest they be brainwashed." She shivered a little. The thought that a demon might try to convince her children... but only Hima would be in real danger from kidnapping. Xia and Bui were both too white for the b*****d's tastes. "This is not to say that it must all be rhetoric, of course. We are a family, we have to give them a childhood... a show of what life could be, in a world without demons."

Mel nodded. A childhood...like she and Kai had. Full of the brighter thoughts of the future, and play, and learning. Learning what the world could be like, so that they had something strive for. "So we play with them as well? And can teach them things they need through games?" Little ones learned best through games usually. It...was just a fact of life.

"Exactly like that Mel." Xinavane told her, "You have to make sure that they learn things which will be helpful later in life... but growing up too fast never helped anyone." She sighed sadly, thinking of her own childhood. "But playing is lovely, and I'm certain the more fun they have, the happier they'll be to learn."
