What Clans Are And Aren't
Let's start with the easy part: what a clan is not.
- A clan is not guaranteed to be your new set of very bestest friends in the whole world.
- A clan does not mean you will always have someone to play zOMG with.
- A clan does not mean you will always be included in everything any clan member ever does. Or that you will want to be.
- A clan does not mean you are a better or worse zOMG player.
Since there are so many different clans out there with so many different styles of play, it's a lot harder to say what a clan is in general. So I won't even try, and instead speak about this clan, the Uesugi clan, and how it operates.
- This clan has a sense of humor. Sometimes a rather morbid one.
- A certain amount of maturity is expected from the members, both with respect to their own behavior and their behavior towards others. All members deserve basic respect and freedom from harrassment.
- Clan Events, like contests and avatar theme weeks, are open to all members. If we ever have to make an exception to that, we will announce it publically and as far in advance as possible.
- We tend to help other clan members as much as possible (as well as players outside the clan), whether it's helping out with quests or letting the clan know about mini-events or voting for avatars in the arena. This doesn't mean any particular person will drop what they are doing at any given moment to fulfill your request. But that with a little patience and respect, help will most likely be available.
- The clan forum provides not only zOMG resources, but a somewhat smaller place to ask questions on a variety of subjects - which means it's a lot more likely your question will be seen and answered. (See patience above, though.)
- As a corollary to the above, we do expect clan members to develop a certain level of ability within zOMG itself - but not overnight. No, you don't have to be an expert, especially not right away. But if you're rising through the CL levels, we expect you're also developing and refining your skills along the way.
- You are not required to crew ONLY with clan members. We all have friends who are members of other clans or no clan at all, and we can and do crew with them because they're our friends and darned good zOMG players. We even have a sister clan, the Guardians of Myhrr.
- While someone has to run the clan on a day to day basis, it belongs to all members, so if you have a suggestion or see something that could be done better, please say something.
- If you decide the Uesugi clan is not for you, there is no dishonor in leaving. zOMG is a game, and it's supposed to be fun. Being in a clan is supposed to make it more fun. Being in the wrong clan for you can make it less fun, and that's not good.
