The large leopon male had been wandering through the rogue lands all day, exploring not too far from where his mother had made camp. He took a deep breath of the cool air, letting the wind blow through his mane for a few moments and closing his eyes. What a perfect day! He thought, padding over towards a pool of water.

As he bent down he noticed a fish swimming by and he grinned as it swam under his shadow. He wondered what it would be like to be a fish, and suddenly he leaped into the cool water, sending a huge splash to the shore around it. He laughed out loud at how good it felt after being in the hot sun, and he swam around lazily, enjoying himself immensely.

A dark lioness started up from where she'd bent low for a drink at the splash from down stream, ears up and eyes wide. Hippolyta had thought herself alone in this bit of land. Of course, she'd been looking for others of her kind, but still... she wasn't sure she was quite ready to face someone new, so soon away from her home.

Curiosity nipped at her heels, forcing her down the bank and along the course of the water to investigate the sound. She rationalized it as needing to know what was around, so she could keep herself safe, but it was hard to deny the fact that she was half-almost hoping it was a worthy male. It'd certainly make things easier, and speed her return to her home.

Jahazi didn't notice the female approaching from behind him. He was having a blast in the water, chasing the fish and diving under to try and catch them before resurfacing to catch his breath. He looked like a cub with a new toy.

But as he turned, he spotted the dark shape on the hillside and choked on the water a little in surprise. How embarrassing! Like her, he had thought he was alone. He swam over to the shore and shook himself off, before trotting over to introduce himself. "Hello there." He said with a big grin. "I'm J-Jahazi. I hope you d-don't think me a f-fool." If he could blush he would have and he smiled sheepishly.

Hippolyta had long enough to realize that the creature in the water was a male when it noticed her and came from the water. Ears back against her head, she held her ground, a shy sort of look about her as he boldly (to her) introduced himself. He seemed like a male lion, taking after the ones she'd seen before in form, but there was still something odd about him. Putting it aside, she struggling to find words to answer him, her voice embarrassingly breathless when she did.

"Oh! Hello." She said softly, trying to get herself back to the calm, self-assured lioness who was the heir to her pride. "Oh, no, not a fool. I'm Hippolyta. I was just... curious, what the sound of the splashing was from, that's all." Or mostly all. The longer she stood looking at the spotted male, the more curious she became, her easy sort of nature slowly asserting itself.

Jahazi smiled, his eye had begun twitching, as it always did when he was around a female. Especially a pretty one, which this Hippolyta was. His tail did the same as his eye, twitching quickly and swaying back and forth. He obviously had nervous ticks, "It's a p-pleasure to meet you, Miss Hi-Hippolyta." And a noticeable stutter.

He was glad that she didn't think him a fool, very glad. "I saw a fish and wanted to c-catch it, b-but I'm afraid I f-failed." He chuckled softly, nervously. No matter how many times he met females, he was never good at speaking to them.

"Oh..." She said softly, her head gently tilting to the side.

"Why do you do that, with your words?" The black lioness said, a bit more bluntly that she probably should have with someone she'd only just met. Still, though, she'd never heard anyone stutter before, mangling her (or his) words like that. It was quite odd.

She ducked her head a little as she gave a tentative smile, hoping she hadn't sounded rude just then. "I'm just curious, I'm sorry. I think its a failing of mine."

The question made him even more nervous, and his eye twitch became even more pronounced. "Oh, I-I have a st-stutter. It's a nervous thing, r-really. I c-c-can't c-control it." He sputtered, sitting down. He curled his tail around his hind legs, trying to get it to stop it's incessant flailing.

"I've d-done it since I w-was a child." He said with a bit of a shrug. He really didn't know why he was like that, but it was something he came to live with. Although he was worried that she would judge him, or become annoyed with him, and not want to become friends. "I'm s-sorry if it b-bothers you.."

Hippolyta rolled her shoulders, shrugging off the issue. It didn't really matter, after all... not like it could affect his hunting or fighting.

"Oh, well, that's too bad. But since you can't control it, why worry about it, right?" She tilted her head a little to the side, a smile again springing to her face, easier this time. "It doesn't bother me, I've just never heard anyone do that before. I... don't get outside my pride much, or meet new people. I guess you'd know more, since you live outside, I bet you meet all kinds of people."

Jahazi was relieved when she spoke, glad she was so accepting. He instantly liked her. It happened to him a lot, he always liked others if they were kind to him, no matter how short a time he spent with them.

"Oh, I suppose so." He said with a shrug, his stutter lessening now that he knew she didn't mind it. "I have m-met some unique c-characters." None really came to mind, aside from his four crazy siblings. "So you say you belong to a p-pride?" He asked, curious. He was always curious when lions or others creatures said they belonged to a pride. He had never been in one, it had always been just him and his mother and siblings, out facing the world alone. "What's it l-like?"

The way he seemed to relax went a long way to setting Hippy at her ease, letting her open up a bit more with him. He was so totally alien to what she grew up with, what she was used to... he had an attractive sort of novelty to him.

His question though, about her pride, made her stiffen a little, the red-eyed lioness splaying her ears and ducking her head. "Oh, its just a small pride, mostly my mother and sisters and a few others that have come to join us. We're all just like a big family, really. Living and taking care of each other." She rolled her shoulders in a shrug again, her tail twitching gently.

"Do you not know what a pride is like? Or are you just curious about my pride?"

Jahazi nodded, trying to imagine this. He could picture it, the way she put it, like a big family. He always figured prides were like that, just a big family. He wondered if she was happy there, since she seemed to tense up and become more introverted when he asked.

"Oh, I'm just c-curious about p-prides in general." He said with a small nod, "I just have a v-very small f-family, so I always wondered what it would b-be like to have so many people around." He shrugged as well, unsure where to go with this conversation. He didn't mind talking about his family, but he was more interested in her life.

"Oh, I see." She said, relieved. "I'm not really supposed to talk about my pride with outsiders, but I don't know much of anything about other prides, I'm afraid. I've just lived in mine. It is nice though, always having someone around if you need them."

She shrugged again, feeling silly for the almost-nervous-action. "You probably know more than I do, since this is only the second time I've left my pride." Turning her head, she looked out over the water of the river, watching the light glance off it in bright ripples and waves. "I've been a little curious, but too busy with my pride to worry about others. Well... until I had to." She finished a little hesitantly, uncertain.

He nodded a little as she spoke. Wasn't supposed to talk about her pride? He wondered why. But he didn't press the question, and instead tilted an eyebrow at her next statement. He wondered at that for a few moments before answering, thinking hard for a bit. He was a little confused by this female. He didn't know what to make of her. He shrugged the thought away, but was too curious not to ask about it.

"If you d-don't mind my asking, why must you w-worry about others now?" He asked, tilting his head to one side a bit. His eye had ceased it's twitching for the time being, but his tail still flailed every which way.

Ears pinned back against her head, she wondered how to answer his question. When it came down to it, bluntness was probably best. Good time would be lost by chasing the subject's tail, never quite coming to it. Better to be out with it.

"Well, see, I'm on a mission." She said, nervous now what he'd think of it. "I need to know about other prides and lions because, well... I need to find a male. If I knew more, I could make a better choice. I want cubs of my own to take back to my pride, little girl cubs to raise... and for that, unfortunately, means I need a male to help me." She lowered her head before sneaking a look up at him, shuffling her paws gently in the bank of the river.

Jahazi was, to say the least, shocked. He had never heard of such a thing. A lioness looking for a male to just breed with, but not be a mate? And by her words he noticed that she didn't really think too highly of males, and neither did this pride of hers.

He took it in for a few moments, then his eyes widened slightly when he realized that HE was a male! And that perhaps that was the only reason she was talking to him at all. It made him a little sad, but he realized that she must be doing her duty to help her people.

After a few awkwardly silent moments, he spoke, "Well, I d-don't suppose you'd c-consider... me?" He said softly, also looking away bashfully. What did he just do?! Did he really offer himself as a... man toy? He realized he did and he was surprised at his own boldness.
