The day had been gorgeous, with the sun beaming down from the canopy of the jungle trees. It was a humid day, the heat sticking to his little body.. But here, he paid no mind to it.
He dealt with it day after day.. And with the cool waters of the waterfall, which wasnt far, he could afford to get a little hot.
He was a bit of an odd fellow.. He had definately been born in the wrong pride.. He was a rebelious cub of sorts, and it had caused a bit of a rift between he and his family.
A rift, he wanted to repair. He felt sorry for having been the way he was.. But he couldnt help it!
He just couldnt back down to his sister when she yelled at him..and it felt odd to have a strong male like his father, so obediant to his mother.
Though he adored his mother, she seemed the most put off by his rebel ways.
Things had to change. He was only a cub, and he was not suited to be on his own.
He wanted to belong to this pride.. He wanted to obey the females.. He just needed some direction.
Sighing, he walked to the nearest rock, listening to the songs of the jungle birds, and lying on the warmth of the rock.
Things were rather boring lately.. He was unsettled with his lot in life, and he just wanted to be free.
But Betta perked his ears, thinking he heard something. His eyes wide, looking for the source.
But there was nothing.. Again.
He snorted, jumping off the rock to continue his walk.
He followed the river, listening to the waters gush by quickly, and wishing he could go fishing.
Maybe thats what he'd do today.. He go fishing!
He knew of the perfect little place.
And he smiled, now having a purpose, and a bounce in his step.
Oh how he loved to fish!

It was a hot day and he could feel the heat clinging to his fur. As used to it as he was, he knew that napping in his usual sunny spot would be a bad idea. No one seemed to be in good moods when it was too warm and he didn't want to risk irritating anyone so he wandered off on his own a bit, hoping he wouldn't be chastised for that either. If he was he would accept it, just as he had accepted everything else in his life so far. It really wasn't anything bad and, more than anything, he found himself looking forward to being sent to where the other males were so that he could learn more.
All he had to do was grow up first...

He was on a mission.. He wanted to go fishing..
He started humming, carrying himself with a bit of a dance in his movements.
Nothing would stop him from making it there, and giving those ol' fish a good run for their money..
Though his paws were large, he was a smaller cub, and he could easily pad through the area quietly,, without having to worry about his footfalls disturbing everyone.
He knew that the heat made others cranky. .It rather scared him. He disliked being yelled at, but the females in the pride could be quite intimidating..

When he heard the sound of running water his ears ticked and a bit of excitement took place of his quasi-seriousness. He picked up his pace, breaking out into the cool clearing that the stream ran by. There was always a breeze here; a nice one coming up off of the water along with shade and it was there in a shady spot that he plopped down to take his own nap... Or something close to, at least. Maybe just a little dozing.

Beta perked his ears, his eyes blinking at the smell. Someone was coming. Now, he wasnt all too sure he wanted to meet a stranger. What if it was a scary stranger?
Beta shivered a bit, but it didnt really matter.. He wasnt one to back down.. Maybe one day he would learn how, and be better at it with the lionesses of his pride.. but he would never back down to a stranger that was threatening.
He flicked his tail, once, twice, and then rested it down onto the earth, with a sigh.
His eyes remained watching.
Now he was just waiting for the creature to emerge.

Catching the sound of movement unrelated to the breeze his ears perked, head tilting as he pushed himself back up, listening... He crept slowly around the tree he'd plopped down beside, brow lofting slightly when he caught sight of a cub. "... Aren't you a little young to be wandering too far from your father?" His brow lofted slightly. He wasn't much older, of course, but he was at least -supposed- to be here. Sort of.

Betta looked up, at the voice, since the cub was a bit taller than himself. He snorted a bit at his comment and shook his head.
"'Course not.. I'm an explorer."
Was his reply, as he looked up into the others eyes. He was brightly colored, though he didn't have the bright yellows and oranges that Betta carried within his own pelt.
He cocked his head. Wasnt he still in his pridelands? So that must have meant this one was a pride member.
He stepped a little closer to sniff him, and then when he was satisfied he pulled away and plopped down.
Confirmed. He was a fellow pride member.

"Explorer or not..." He smirked softly, leaning forward to lightly touch his nose to the younger cubs before sitting back once more. "Your father could get into trouble for not keeping a better eye on you if they notice that you've wandered off. Don't you have any brothers to play with?"

He never really thought of him wandering off as getting his father in trouble. He really didn't want that, but he was sure Liza wouldnt be too upset. He wasnt too far away, right?
His paws shifted a bit, as he stammered, and looked up at the other male with a nod of his head. The orange fluff of what was currently his mane, started bouncing.
When his nose touched with the other male, he smiled, looking at the male with a happier expression than he had just a moment before.
"I do, yes. But none of them really like to play with me."
And it was true, he was different than they were. He believed in equality, though.. it was unknown as to why the cub was so rebellious in the first place.
"Im different."

"We're all different." He stated simply, smiling as he glanced at the younger cub, reaching out with a paw to ruffle the other boy's mane tuft. "It would be really boring if we were all the same, wouldn't it? I mean... How would our fathers all tell us apart? It'd be really weird, don't you think?"

Betta perked a bit, having never heard something like that. So if they were all different, then maybe him being that different wasnt so bad. He smiled, a warm, softhearted smile.
He may not feel like he belonged, but the male was completely kind and always ready to give a soft smile.
His heart had always been genuinely good, even when he did get in trouble.
"I guess that makes sense. After all, our fathers like that we're different. Maybe my father will like that I'm different one day too."
Betta answered, hope rising in his heart. Maybe father wouldnt hate him for his decisions one day.
Of course, he felt sure that LIza could never hate him. Betta loved his family, even if they had never been considerably close.
He giggled a bit, still the giggle of a cub, and not quite the chuckle of an older lion, when the other ruffled his mane fluff.
He flicked his tail back and forth, happy that he could make a friend. He had always felt alone.
It felt good to get it off his chest.

"Try not to think about it too much, ok?" His brow lofted slightly as he tilted his head to the side, a shock of green mane falling across his eye until he blue a puff of air up to toss it aside. "Just... Be a good cub and do what you're told. If we do that we get all the free time in the world. Once you're old enough your father will take you to a wonderful place where all of the other males are. It's not so bad... You'll see."

He gave another grin, growing a bit bashful at how grown up his talk seemed to be. Had he spent much time at all just..being a cub? He didn't think so. He liked to think of the future, and that didn't leave time for play.
Though he felt that at the other males advice, he likely should start trying.
"Thank you for listening."
He nodded, standing a bit taller as if he was a proud male just the like one in front of him.
"I shall do what Im told, and follow your advice. Im sure, my story will unravel in time."
He nodded once more, and then looked at the other male with another smile.

"I'm sure it will." He nodded, grinning, already looking forward to days in the future when he'd be able to fulfill his own roles as well. He wasn't sure what all of them were, just yet, but they didn't seem all that complicated now. "Now... How about you run along back to your father, huh? I'm going to head back too so that way neither of us wind up in any trouble."

"Okay! But I wont forget you! I hope that some day, I run into you again."
He had made a friend, and he couldnt wait to go tell father that he had done so.
He was sure father would be happy that he felt he had a friend.
"Good bye, Kipaku!" He called, looking behind him only once, before darting in the direction of home.
He was tired, and sleep would soon follow when he reached the safety of the den.
