(Safi's jewelry)

Safimoto danced along in the late afternoon. She wasn't too far from her family's camp, which was a good thing. Her father was far from overprotective, in fact he encouraged his children to explore, to find themselves on their own. Safi had found the dancer within her a long time ago, and it was these times that she took for herself simply to go out on her own and use the solitude to reflect within herself and find a new dance.

She stopped on a small rise in the landscape, giving her a pretty nice view of most everything around her. It was so open out here. Not like how closed it was when they were in or near the jungle. She knew in her heart why her father loved the opens lands so much. It was because out here one could breathe properly.
She sat down and closed her eyes with a happy smile, tilting her head up just a bit so that she could feel the breeze, hear the sounds of the world around her, how everything in the world was a dance. And it called to her.

Jahazi had been wandering through the afternoon, looking for something interesting to do. So far he had only come across a small stream, which he had spent a while at before moving on again. A sigh escaped him as he padded slowly through the open field. It was the first time he had been in such an open area, normally his family stayed nearer to the pridelands and he had never seen such a vast expanse of nothing.

As he gazed around, he noticed a figure laying in the grass. He squinted and saw that it was a lion. He couldn't quite make out anything else, but he figured he'd take his chances and he wandered in her direction.

When he neared her enough for them to speak without shouting, but not so close as to warrant an attack, he half smiled and called out to her. "Hello." he said, his voice soft and meek. "I'm J-jahazi." The tick in his eye acted up and it started twitching as he stood there, soon followed by his tail doing the same. "It's a p-pleasure to meet y-you."He bowed his head to her respectfully.

Safi's sky-colored eyes shot open and the young cheeton blinked, turning her head towards the bigger... Well, he kinda looked like a lion like her papa, but he had a strange tail. He must be another hybrid, then, and seemed friendly to boot. Her eyes took him in slowly, from his larger size and... Goodness, he was shaking like a leave in the breeze. Surely he wasn't afraid of her?

No... that wasn't it, he wasn't shaking. He was twitching. She smiled softly, sweetly. When he spoke, he stuttered, a trait she somehow found quite adorable.
"I'm Safimoto, but you can just call me Safi, if you'd like," she replied in an equally soft voice. She really wasn't much of a talker, which was strange considering most of her adult role-models were. She simply preferred to listen to others speak. It had taken her a bit longer than normal cubs to fully grasp speech, and in that time she had found that she learned more by listening, so she did her best to talk as little as possible, if others wanted to speak.

"You're very polite, Jahazi," she added, bowing her head a bit as well. A little charming, too, but she wasn't going to add that part. Her tail flicked nonchalantly, and the coins there clinked against one another.

Jahazi smiled his half-smile as he sat down, his tail still twitching violently. "Oh, th-thank you. You are as well, M-Miss Safi. Most c-call me Zi for short, if you'd l-like t-too." He stammered, finding it so hard to talk with females. He didn't stutter nearly as much when he was with his sisters or brothers, but talking with pretty girls was not his cup of tea.

He noticed the fine jewelry she wore, and he admired it for a few moments before bringing his twitching eye back to hers. "That's v-very pretty jewelry, Miss S-safi. Where d-did you f-find it?"

Safi tilted her head a bit to one side.
"Which do you prefer, Jahazi or Zi?" she asked, smiling cheerfully. She liked making others happy, which was why she so enjoyed being an entertainer. When he asked about her jewelry, she lifted her paw and glanced down at it, smiling even more.

"Thank you! I've had them for a long while. Kinda my little secret, you know?" she replied, standing up and twirling happily, jingling the metal pleasantly.

He had never been asked which he preferred before, and he pondered it for a little while. "I think I p-prefer Zi." He said, watching her as she danced around a bit. "You're a b-brilliant d-dancer." He said in all honestly. "Where did you learn to dance?"

Safi nodded her head once in a confidant manner.
"Okay, Zi it is then," she replied cheerfully before sitting back down, her ears flicking back a bit as she glanced away in modest embarrassment.

"Thanks. I'm not really sure. I just... move, I guess. Like, I feel the world around me and just... move." It was a difficult thing to explain, really. She remembered it mostly starting with swaying in the wind, watching the grasslands and the cooling air swept over them, pushing the stalks to and fro. She would close her eyes and hear the "music" of the world. Perfect to dance to. And in the end, dancing really was just moving.

Zi smiled at her as she sat back down. "Well, it's v-very pretty." He said, "I've n-never been one for th-things like th-that... I'm n-not very graceful, as you c-can tell..." He smiled bashfully.

"So, miss Safi, d-do you have any f-family?" He asked, curious about her life. He was always curious about others, since he realized that most of the creatures he came across didn't have quite as big a family as himself.

Safi's smile turned shy and she nodded slowly.
"Well... Thank you. My family members are mostly entertainers," she explained, tilting her head a bit to one side. She curled her tail around her feet, her voice happy as she talked about her family. Of all subjects, her family was one thing Safi never had trouble talking about.

"My papa sings stories and my uncle tells them with such feeling. I've got a cousin Ayane who's a leopard-cheetah and her mate's a lion and they have two baby boys. There's my mom and I've got two brothers and two sisters, but one of my brothers left. My aunt 'Tawi and uncle Kucha have two little girls and a little boy and there's a little wild dog that helps my cousin see. My aunt Kweupe doesn't travel with us, but she visits sometimes and three of her five leopard-cheetah kids are in the other half of our Troupe. They're mercenaries," she rambled on, twirling a paw slightly as she explained how her family was.

She was used to it being big. When she was born, her family group consisted of her mother and father, her father's adopted-sister Matawi and her mate Kucha, and Matawi's daughter. Soon after she was born, they ran into her father's childhood adopted siblings, cheetah twins Kweupe and Mafunde, who had been taken in by Safi's grandparents when their parents, old friends of the wandering couple, had been killed by an old enemy. Kweupe had just had a litter, herself, from a brief affair with one of her friends. When others talked about having smaller families, the young female was always curious about how things were in them.

Zi listened intently, fascinated with her story about her family. As she listed all the names and described the creatures, he blinked a few times in surprise. Was her list ever going to end? He thought he had a big family! With four siblings and his mother he always had someone to talk to or to be annoyed by.

"Wow, that's a b-big family, M-miss Safi." He said with a smile. "I have four s-sibling, myself. We t-traveled with my m-mother for a long time, but a lot of m-my siblings have left to f-find their own p-paths in life." He sounded a little sad at this, since he did miss the companionship of his brothers and sisters.

"B-but it's nice to meet new p-people, like yourself." He smiled again softly.

Safi giggled at his surprise at her family's size. Ah, he was yet another person from a small family. Not that she really minded. It definitely made her feel special.
"Yeah, people tell me that," she replied with a laugh. It tapered back into small giggles as she tilted her head again. She listened intently as he talked about his own family. He didn't mention his father and she had since learned not to really ask about that. had she been younger, she might have, but now she knew that some might not like talking about it.

"That sounds really nice, though I'm sorry that they went off on their own ways. And you know, you don't have to call me Miss. Safi's just fine, really," she added, when he was finished. She liked meeting new people, too, especially when they were nice and friendly. Like Zi.

Jahazi smiled, his eye still twitching. "Oh, okay.. Safi." He said. It felt strange calling a female by her name without tagging miss on it. He wasn't used to it. He liked to be polite, as his mother always taught him. "It is n-nice." He said with a nod, his tail twitching. "I've always liked having so many siblings, there's always someone to t-talk to."

Jahazi looked up at the sky. It was getting late. He looked back over to his new friend and smiled. "It's been a p-pleasure talking with you, M-..." He stopped himself, "Safi. I hope we m-meet again." He nodded to her respectfully.

Safi smiled sweetly at the older male. He was really sweet and polite. It amused her that he had trouble not calling her Miss; it was rather endearing.

And then he looked up at the sky and more or less bid her farewell. That made her a little sad that he needed to leave so soon, and yet she wasn't really the type to insist that others stay. It was in her own nature to wander, in her very blood. And she would never make others do something they wished not to do.
So she nodded her head, the large hoop in one ear swaying a bit as she gave him a slight dip.
"Oh, I do hope so. You're a very nice male, Zi. Maybe we will see each other again," she replied and turned away, heading back towards her family's camp.

Her voice had been cheerful, but her soft blue eyes had been sad. He was not with her family, not with her pride. Despite their polite words, it was in all likelihood that they would never again cross paths with one another. Such was the life of the gypsy. Safi's life.

Jahazi smiled back at her as he turned to go. He wasn't sure if he would ever see her again, but he sincerely hoped so. He, too, was a wanderer, and with every wanderer there comes relationships and meetings that you remember forever, no matter how brief they had been. He knew he would never forget the little dancer, and he smiled at the thought, glad to have met her.
