Hey (long time no see surprised ) It seems I need some help here. My Wing Chun school has just moved....very far away, and because I can't get there very often anymore I don't feel like I am making any progress in my training. I've thought about quitting and going elsewhere, so I had a look at what schools were around and managed to find 3 that were in my travel range and took my interest... I just thought I would get some opinion. I will have to go check these schools out myself as well. http://www.grandmasterleong.com/http://www.wing-chun.com.au/http://www.extremecombat.com.au/- This one doesn't teach Wing Chun, but I thought I could always try something different. I'm also not sure about this one... The guy that runs it use to be affiliated with my Wing Chun instructor and they are currently on 'bad terms'. I think he used my instructors name without permission to promote himself or somethin.. Anyways, just looking for opinion.. If you smell any bullshido or whatever just let me know what you think.

I'm not entirely sure about the last one but the first two certainly looks legit. Coming from Hong Kong, I know anyone that has relations to the Wing Chun association in HK is pretty sound usually, as Hong Kong associations are pretty protective against bullshido arts.
I would say if you're not sure, is to go check out a class or two first. Just sit on the sidelines and watch. That's probably the best way because you will be able to get a better feel for whether the class is good for you. With the first two, the only thing is if the teachers are all from Hong Kong, chances are their English might not be that great and you might have a hard time understanding them.

I have to agree the first two look cosher, the lineage looks pretty damn good. The last one, the styles look like a good mix of stuff. I dont know about you but Muay Thai / Kick Boxing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Greco-Roman and Freestyle Wrestling, Boxing and Vale Tudo / MMA looks like the perfect combination of various striking and grappling arts, it just depends on the instructor. In all honesty I wish we had classes of such calibre to choose from where I am... sweatdrop Go along and have a look see smile

Hmmm, they all seem ok to me.
Personally though i think you'd get a lot more out of the third club listed because of the Boxing, BJJ etc.
But darklings right, if you can check them all out for yourself you'll know for sure.

The first two seemed pretty good, judging from what I could see on the websites. The third one wasn't too bad either. The only thing was how much they used the words EXTREME, and ULTIMATE. Other than that it seems alright, a pretty nice variety offered. I didn't see any promises about becoming a master in a crazy short of time, so maybe they're all legit. You'll have to check them out in person before you decide though.

Hakuya! How long has it been since you've posted?
Anyways, I'd highly suggest the third school. If you intend to further yourself as a martial artist, this is a good option. Cross-training is always good, and they have good fighting systems there. muay thai, BJJ, Greco-roman wrestling; you can't go wrong. The two wing chun schools, I'm not too sure about. I'd suggest looking for an instructor who's learned from Wong Shun Leung before going anywhere else if you don't feel the third place is the one for you, although I highly, HIGHLY reccomend the third one. with your wing-chun experience, it might be a little difficult learning rough martial arts, but it's worth it. If you do choose the third one, I still advise you to practise wing-chun on your own; that sensitivity you get from shi sao exercises is great help in grappling.
EDIT: The third school also has Doce Pares style Kali. This is an added perk. The doce pares style is good from what i've seen.
