Physical Description: Short, with a compact, slightly stocky build that carries weight well, Vera is not a classical beauty, but she is striking. Her features are pronounced, high cheekbones and a pointed jaw lending her a sort of sharp appearance, but not one which is particularly mannish. With the combination of black hair and steel-gray eyes, she definitely stands out from her cousin Sovann (now S’van) whose more moderate coloring is closer to the norm. Her hair is almost perfectly straight, and reasonably long, with a pronounced cowlick in the back. She battles that particular annoyance by simply keeping it in a braided bun around her head most of the time, which also has the added bonus of keeping it out of her face while she plays. Her complexion is naturally a sort of light olive, though it darkens when she spends an extended period of time in the sun as she has been since she started her journeys.
Personality: Once upon a time, a little girl named Vera told her adorable cousin that she was going to marry him when they both grew up. Since then, that not-so-little girl has kept up a teasing relationship with said cousin, alternately teasing and shocking him stone silent by turns. She is ambitious, intelligent, and wise-cracking, with a wry sense of humor and a fondness for testing those around her that can be very tiresome. She is also vivacious when she feels that the situation calls for it, and she has a rather impressive temper. It takes a bit of effort to rile her up, but once riled she will remain so until something arises to distract her from her anger or until she gets a hold of her temper once more. She is not especially bothered by boundaries, a fact which has caused certain individuals quite a bit of distress, but she knows how to respect authority when push comes to shove, and she will back off.
History: Vera grew up in the same small seahold that S’van did, which was more of a cothold than anything else, filled primarily with relatives of both youngsters. It was rather more insular than Vera would have liked, spirited as she was (and is). She yearned for the opportunity to get away, to go see the world or make something of herself. At about the time that she was truly chafing at her restraints, her father decided that it was high time that the youngest of his children got a decent education, and he sent her to learn her teaching ballads and whatnot at Ista Hold. This, she found, was a vast improvement over being shut in at home with little to do besides knit, embroider, and sew, and help her family with the morning’s catch.
She ate up the lessons with eagerness and a talent that was quite different from anything she’d shown before… except perhaps in her teasing of Sovann. It wasn’t too long before she was learning more than the usual teaching ballads, and the Hold Harper was happy enough to hand her over to the care of the Harper Hall when her interest solidified into a determination. Once at the Hall itself, she sent her bemused parents message scrolls every now and again, and focused on her learning. Through her time as an apprentice, she discovered a true knack for instrument making, and she picked up the harp, gitar, and pan pipes. She was slightly ahead (age-wise, and time-wise) of the mad influx of Harper Apprentices that evacuated from the Hall en masse to Ista Weyr, and is somewhat bemused by them as a rule.
Last Turn, she turned eighteen and walked the tables approximately a month after her Naming Day, to her considerable delight. She has since then been enjoying the opportunity to journey from hold to hold, teaching as she went and spreading the new ballads about. Due to her duties, she was unable to attend the recent Hatching, and witness S’van’s Impression, though she intends to visit him at some point if she can. Currently, she is between posts, traveling about Ista. She has some inkling of where her next post will be, but she is somewhat ahead of the messages at this point, traveling about in the company of whomever she can find and entertaining them (and teaching their children when she gets the chance) in exchange for the protection that a group provides. There is a distinct possibility that she may be in the area for the Gather at Ista Hold.

Other/Talents: She is a skilled instrument maker, singer of songs, and player of harps, though she has been known to play the gitar and pipes in addition to her favored instrument. She likes to turn insults against the insulter.
