The two brothers travelled in compatible silence. Much like their half brother and son Haemon they were taller than average but unlike him they were heavily muscled and physically a deadly creature of unchecked passion and hunger. They travelled with a few yards separating them, neither one in front or behind and over head soared their companions Hugin and Munin.

Black orbs scanned the forest below and with grace possessed by most birds the large raven lowered himself into the thick of the branches and navigated himself through the branches to the clearing he had spotted from above the canopy of trees. Coming to rest he perched himself on the branch of a tree which made up the circle about the clearing. He let out a loud signally core, which was echoed by Munin as the other raven perched himself on a branch or so away from himself, ruffling his feathers as he settled into place, staring menacingly down at the clearing.

Bursting forth from the undergrowth the brothers entered the clearing and cast their twin emerald eyes about them.

Chernabog was in high spirits, he had collected tribute from Gomorrah and the pup was curled up in the den resting. He had to admit that for one so small she had managed amazingly to keep up with him, through the night and day she had walked though her tiny paws had been leaving blood by the time they arrived.

He was patrolling along the border of the lands leaving strong new scent markers for the pack. His mind drifted to the more serious matters of his lords and ladies, they were all far from the pack now either collecting tribute or in search of the runaway slave. It left him thinking on the court's numbers, as fierce as every member was they needed more warriors. Valdis was his finest but even she could not wage a war alone, he had taken packs on alone of course, but that was under the perfect circumstances. Life was far from perfect and he knew what he needed strength and loyalty.

Freki stalked about the clearing with deadly grace while Geri stood for a moment, watching his brother and in a low growl spoke, ‘Brother, we are close.’ Knowing this he turned his attentions to the ravens sat in the branches overhead, ‘Fly now and see if you can spy this alpha Haemon spoke of, Brother and I have no desire to speak to anyone of lesser station.’

‘As you wish’
Hugin croaked in response and then took to wing, piercing up through the canopy and out of sight. Munin waited a moment to see if there was to be another destination given to him but when Geri turned back to his brother he too took to the skies in search of this alpha.

Freki stopped surveying the clearing and turned back to face his brother, ‘I do not see what can be gained from joining this pack brother; we have always done as we pleased in the past and done well from it. Now, how will we fair, being governed by another?’

‘Times change brother and perhaps by taking a new path in life it can open up new opportunities too us, either way it will not hurt to be closer to Haemon, you know how useful he can be at times.’

‘We shall see then.’ Freki paused and looked to the skies as if sensing the call of Hugin as the raven sounded from far in front of them. Freki gave a quick wink to his brother and together they dug their claws into the ground and pushed themselves off into a even ground gobbling run.

Hugin once again was perched on a branch staring down at a large male, of similar size to his companions, Geri and Freki. The male was strangely adorned with a skull helmet, just as Haemon had stated but what drew the ravens beady eye was the softly glowing red pendant hung around the male’s neck. He let out a large signalling call and within a few heart beats he was joined by his friend and companion Munin, who ruffled his feathers and then settled down on the branch next to him, the two of them stared down at the alpha wolf and waited.

Freki slowed the pace and his brother soon slowed and match him, a few yards on and he slowed again to a prowl and the two of them crept upon the un-expecting alpha. Geri cast his eyes across the short distance separating them and then with a slight nod of the head the brothers broke threw the undergrowth, Freki coming to stand in front of the alpha and Geri took up position behind. Freki growled, ‘Well well, what do we have here?’

Chernabog's red eyes moved up as he glanced curiously at the ravens before looking back down and inhaling. Adrenaline rushed suddenly filling the alpha with the heady desire to fight, still these males looked familiar. He held back the desire to attack and instead matched Freki's growl with one of his own.

"Watch you tone whelp, you are not on lands known for civility. Are you aware that you have crossed into the Reign of Terror?" Chernabog frowned his eyes narrowing as his nose twitched beneath it's metal cover.

These two...the scent was so very familiar, yet he could not quite recall why. He sized up both males and relaxed slightly. Two grown wolves and two ravens, it might be challenge, but if they attacked he was confident he would manage. He hadn't lived through fights all his life only to be bested by a pair.

Freki curled his lips and bared his teeth to the male which stood in front of him, his hackles bristled and he took a step forward but before he replied to the alpha Geri began to stalked around from behind, so to keep a more advantageous stance he circled the male to take up Geri’s former position.

Geri’s blood boiled as he and his brother were referred to as ‘whelps’, quivering slightly he calmed his anger and started to come about to face the insulting male, his voice portraying his controlled anger, ‘Whelps?’ He spat the word, ‘Perhaps it is you which needs to take a little caution here. My brother and I are far from whelps.’ Emerald eyes glared at fiery red and still holding them he addressed his brother. ‘I have no intention of joining a pack where you and I are not respected, useful as Haemon is we can do without him.’

Freki answered his brother as he paced back and forth behind the male, trying to walk out his anger. ‘Perhaps you are right brother, but…’ He circled around the alpha, which in turn caused Geri to circle back around so they both ended up where they had began, the two knew each other so well they reacted to one another’s directions without physical signalling or verbal communications. Another set of emerald eyes fixed fiery red and once again Freki growled in his usual manner, now with his anger faded and his thoughts less clouded, ‘My brother and I are fully aware on the grounds we tread, for it was our brother and son, Haemon, whom directed us here.’

"Haemon is most useful to the pack, a worthy warrior who's skills are most appreciated by this court. If he has invited you then you are most welcome, you'll forgive my harsh words...of late it seems that there is a lack of respect for boundaries and I will have no one sneaking into the court." Chernabog gave a slight snarl before calming once more his ruby eyes scanning the two males.

Chernabog didn't voice his concern that while his lords and ladies were the finest, most clever and cruel of wolves he knew he needed warriors, wolves who could tear and bloody through the ranks of those soft hearted fools that might dare attempt to rise against his dark court. The court was a protection for all those bloodthirsty creatures who might be persecuted elsewhere, here they were surrounded and accepted by their own kind. There was an admiration for cunning and bloodthirst the likes of which was unrivaled in all of Telk.

Freki came to rest in front of the male to which their son, brother Haemon had aligned himself with. He could now understand the males brass response to himself and his brother but still neither one of them liked being spoken to in such a manner, for now he would let it lay. He nodded in acknowledgement at the mentioning of boundary lines but on after a smirk had spread across his face at the naming of Haemon as a warrior.

Once the male had addressed him he called to his brother, 'Geri, what do you make of this, Haemon, a warrior?' From behind the alpha came a harsh chuckle, the sound bearing no warmth and one to cause a weaker minded wolf to shiver. Freki had never once taken his eyes from the large male, taking your eyes from your prey was never a good strategy.

'My brother and I have heard rumours of this pack and it's numbers growing on a daily basis, but you need someone to protect these boarders, for the sounds of it, your current members are not meant for such jobs. You will have a pack strong in mind but weak in force, it will not last.'

Though Freki and Geri was a physical pair to be reckoned with, each of the brothers processed strengths of their own. Freki was more a strategist where as Geri was more hot headed and blood thirsty showing his strength in battle. The two brothers complimented each other.

Chernabog eyed the two males warily at first before nodding softly they were clever these two and seemed to match Haemon's quick wit. Most importantly they were right and Chernabog was no stubborn proud fool to think that his current court was a match for any challenge. They were a tough lot certainly but when push came to shove he needed a harder shove.

"You are welcome then, as fine warriors and Haemon's family...if you wish to join us." Ruby eyes remained assessing the two males for Chernbaog knew when it was easy to turn his back and when to be truly cautious.

Freki nodded, the alpha males eyes portrayed understanding, he knew he needed warriors and also that Freki and Geri would be respected. This was enough for now. Freki signalled to his brother and Geri circled about from behind the male, the brothers then standing just off centre to the alpha.

Geri had calmed now, his brother Freki had cooled the situation, though his eyes still signalled that he would not hesitate in attacking the large male should he be foolish enough to insult his brother and himself again. Geri announced, 'Brother and I have travelled far and I wish to rest once I have food in my belly. Perhaps once we have rested we will seek you out and you may set us tasks you believe us suitable for.'

Freki nodded at his brothers words and added his own part to them, 'My brother, Haemon and myself are from a pack which has now dissipated due to political strife but we know what we are doing. We will look out for you pack as long as it benefits us.' The last comment suggesting that the brothers would venture elsewhere should events not work in their favour.

"Loyalty to this court is highly valued, honor among thieves and all." But that was all he said on the matter, a polite warning to consider. He nodded softly and glanced about. "Your welcome to hunt then, and find yourselves a suitable den, your duties for now will consist mainly of aiding in the patrols."

Chernabog wanted to keep these two on the edges of the territory until he discovered just how loyal they were. It wouldn't do to have traitors among the court, the reign provided a home and safety to wolves who were otherwise reviled as evil by the majority. It was only in banding together and covering one another that they stood strong, and of course that meant they had to trust each other, at least enough trust to ensure they wouldn't turn on one another.

Geri nodded, eager to hunt, fill his belly and then rest for a while. Scouting the packs territory with Freki and planning the best way in which to protect it would come later. He twitched eager to bring this meeting to an end but his brother still held the alpha's gaze.

Freki stared at the alpha, taking in his words and analysing them. A small smile slipped up the side of his face, it wasn't comforting or friendly but no words followed the gesture. He knew what the alpha was implying and he had judged his brother and himself incorrectly. They were loyal, very loyal but they would not hang about should the pack become rotten and decay, as long as the tactician could see hope he would stay and fight, but he would not fight a losing battle.

Freki gestured to his brother and he turned his back on the large male, this a sign that he now placed his trust in the alpha, though not totally, not yet, that would come in time, as he gazed up at Hugin and Munin. Geri disappeared into the undergrowth, his nose upon the ground and his thoughts now on the hunt while Freki closed this meeting, announcing over his back, 'So for now we will protect your boarders, we will secure them and keep them tight. If you have anything further to ask of us no doubt you will hunt us down.' Freki then disappeared without a trace after his brother.

The Ravens bobbed up and down on the branch upon which they were perched, taking one last look at the large strangely adored wolf before taking to wing.

"Of course, make yourselves at home..." With that Chernabog too turned his back casually sauntering back into the heart of the packlands. He was confident in his court, it grew steadily and thus far their goals had been achieved. Tributes had been offered now from neighboring packs. Those wolves who were honed like steel, their hearts icy, their morals twisted, they could call the court home, and rest safe in the knowledge that the do gooders would not dare to attack here.
