I had this rant in this guild's forum post, but I think it is safer here.
Ok, first of all, Wicca, and other branches of Paganism, are NOT evil. It has nothing to do with Satan at all. Satanism, according to Ray Buckland, started as a parody of Christianity, and symbols such as the Crucifix and the Pentacle/Pentagram (which I learned about the materialism point downward in Salem, Massachusetts, at the Salem Witch Village, which has tour guides that accurately tell you what really happened at Salem during the Witch Trials, and what Wicca and Paganism are truly about - I had gone there several times since 1998 - when I was almost 23 at the time - my last tour was back in April of this year - and the symbol for Satanism is actually the Sigil of Baphomet ... Baphomet being one of the first pagan Gods, who very mistakenly is often depicted as the devil, especially on Tarot cards) were greatly abused. It didn't help either that books, movies, radio, and other sources of media melded the Craft with Satanism. Some people tend to here the words "witch" and "witchcraft", and right away think of "evil" and "devil" without really understanding what it is about. Education is important, and so is understanding.
You don't have to work in a coven for studying Paganism. There is such a thing as Solitary Practicioning, meaning you can study and work on your own. There are also pagan organizations that aren't necessarily covens, but are public in teaching the truth about Paganism and what it stands for.

I know Meri may be sick of this topic by now, but I just want to get this point across about Druids (and then I'll shut up about them).
I had read in "The Truth About the Druids" that they had "died out", but there was a revival. There was this guy in the 16th century by the name of Edward Williams, who called himself Iolo Morganwg, who forged his own way of Druidism. If there are Neo-Druids out there that go by his work, then those aren't the real Druids. However, there ARE people who follow the real Druid traditions. There are Druid groves in the U.S., Canada, and Australia, due to the migration of Celtic descendants who carried the real Druid tradition with them.

Oh I'm not sick of hearing about it! I fully support the idea of Druids still existing. Just because what...three or four @$%#%^#$^!# said they dont doesn't make them right...

Druids - there is some debate, by those who are Celtic claiming that modern-day Druids aren't the same as the old ones, you know what, they're right. Of course, the modern Celts aren't the same as the originals, the modern Egyptians have a different culture, etc. My personal view is that as long you're up front about reconstructing something, hey, your business.
End of rant.

The reason why I put this here was, in the original recruitment thread for this guild, someone had an argument with a member here, saying druids no longer exist. I had first put what I said to tell that person that I had done some research, that druids do still exist, in defense of the guild member. When I moved this here, I did further research, and put down what I read.
I didn't really intend to have this open for argument. Nor am I claiming to be a reconstructionist.
To be honest, I don't really mind that druids nowadays mix in new ways with old tradition, or call themselves Groves as a collective.
