In Apartment 223 DR the general sounds of the day were absent. The two occupants were asleep, both having been awake for far too long the night before. Zai, the one who had had to drag her partner home the night before was the lighter sleeper of the two. And so it was she who woke up to the sound of their alarm going off. With a groan...and then an irritated snarl Zai attempted to block out the sound by burying her head beneath her pillow...but to no avail. Cursing the detective finally reached over and hit the snooze, intent on going back to sleep. Until the damn thing went off again not a minute later. Zai, shouting this time threw the digital clock at the wall, smashing it effectively amongst a pile of other broken clocks. She didn't know why they bothered with them. Even as she stood and padded her way out of her small room barely big enough for her bunk and dresser and headed down the hall to the shower. Honestly it was Xander who bought the stupid clocks in the first place. Though why he did Zai couldn't say. He always slept through them...mostly because the two of them had become something of a nocturnal sort so long ago that it hardly mattered if they were awake during daylight hours or not. Their schedule normally never consisted of waking up before noon....and Zai was glad for it. And yet Xander always insisted on setting the clock at around eight in the morning. Alright true this time Zai had bothered to reset herself ...but still...any time where light was still shinning through their relatively dark and shuttered windows was too early for her.

Emerging from the shower her short blonde hair still dripping wet despite the towel wrapped around her neck the detective went in search of coffee. She'd never wake up otherwise. She hadn't bothered to get completely dressed and so was still in her boxer-style underwear and sports bra by the time she'd got a pot brewing. And she didn't bother to cover up further than that. Xander had seen her in less the little sneak...and she really couldn't care less anyway. It wasn't like she was expecting company.

Xander, having fallen asleep in his equally small room, though with much less space awoke amongst the mess of his tinkering to the smell of coffee. Surrounding him on all sides were bits and pieces of gadgets and the tools meant to fix them or tear them apart. Near his left were the workings of a hover-pad, torn apart and gutted like the carcass of a deer in a lion's den. Next to that was an Electric Pulse Emitter or E.P.E., the next generation of tazers, with the barrel missing and attached to what seemed to be a generator. Not too far off was a holoscreen showing the continual image of two video game characters paused in the middle of a fight, the controller to which was lying somewhere at Xander's feet. All in all the small room was like it's own miniature junk-yard...but that was how Xander liked it.

As he sat up in bed several nuts and bolts went flying and the detective let out a groan as he head protested against the sharp movement. Staring down at himself Xander couldn't help but be surprised that he was still fully dressed, though he assumed this was because Zai had had to help him home last night. And by 'help him home' he meant she had to carry him ...but Xander didn't like to think about their height difference. After all it just made his height difference seem that much more sad.

With a groan Xander willed himself up and into the hallway, his long-sleeved black and blue shirt hanging off of him and hiding his hands save for when he went to scratch at his head, ruffling his bright red hair. He was still half-asleep when he turned into the kitchen, although the second he did he quickly became wide-awake. And Zai was the cause. It just wasn't fair...or maybe it was a miracle...waking up to the sight of her practically naked, and still dripping wet from the shower. Oh if there was a God then he must be cruel because the second he began to think about how amazing she was, how beautiful and sexy her body could be...he was reminded of how much he still resembled a thirteen year old child. Just last night the bartender had thought that Zai was his mother. His MOTHER! For tech's sake he was almost thirty! This was getting to be ridiculous.

Xander shook off the blush that reached his cheeks and instead headed for the pot of coffee, pouring himself a mug before actually bothering to mutter a good-morning, his cheeks, he knew, were probably still red from the embarassment of having seen Zai's perfect a** the second he'd walked in, so to hide it he turned quickly and made as if to head back to bed, swallowing the hot coffee as if it were water.

Zai smiled and said her good mornings to Xander at well, oblivious to the blush that ran across his cheeks. She was too intent on the paper for the day. However, when he turned to head back down the hallway she furrowed her eyebrows in a sign of worry and called after him. "Don't forget to breathe between gulps you idiot. I don't want to have a repeat of last time." Zai didn't bother to elaborate, they both knew what she was talking about. After a moment Zai finally sighed and turned back to the paper reaching into the bread-box to pop a bagel into her mouth and chew as she read.

All to soon however her day was interrupted as the phone rang. More annoyed than anything else Zai tucked the paper away and swallowed the last bit of bagel in her mouth, washing it down with coffee before she actually answered their phone. The Holo-screen popped up automatically and Zai sat back in the kitchen chair as the image of her boss, the commissioner became visible. The man started for a moment at the sight of Zai before glaring at her. "Can't even be bothered to put on a robe Zai?"

Zai merely smiled over her coffee and waved the mug in a gesture of general acceptance. "Don't like what you see don't call so early in the morning Seth. Now what d'ya got for me?" she asked taking a bit of her bagel as he began to spill details. "Riot in downtown. Seems a lecturer found himself on the wrong-side of the city to be preaching about upgrades."

Zai hummed and leaned back in her chair, crossing her long legs as she did so, her expression one of mild annoyance. "Too bad for the speaker...but that's out of our department so unless you've got a thing for seeing me in my underwear you'd better get to the point."

"The guy who started the riot had nearly a kilo of meth on him."

Zai's eyes rose in surprise. Meth wasn't a common drug anymore, not since there were so many other things nowadays that could get you high without the damaging side-effects...and were easier to obtain. Meth had essentially become the poor man's drug. Dealing it, even being found in possession of it, was enough to get you sent to the big house without ever seeing the light of day again. The punishment only so strict due to it's drop in popularity. Drug lord's didn't want old-time competition. The detective took a moment to nurse her coffee before turning back to her boss.

"Dealer or customer?"
"Definitely customer."
"That means dealer's still on the loose. Got to be in the area too...that much Meth couldn't have been on him for long. Any other details?"
"Trackers picked up on a trail but we can't touch it."
"Why not?"
"It's got the seal of your boy."

Zai let out a low hiss. 'Her boy' was the drug dealer and crime lord she and Xander had been investigating for the last six months. Guy liked to put his hand into every pie, and he was good at cleaning up after himself. She and Xander had been attempting to pin him for a month now, and this might be the very thing to cinch an arrest. She turned back to the commissioner and ran a hand through her hair. "Alright we're on it. Be downtown in twenty. Later Seth." Zai didn't give him a chance to reply, she flicked the screen off and instantly went to get changed, pounding on the bathroom door as she went by.

"Got a tag on 'Memphis' down town. Meth user. Be ready in ten." she called without stopping once, she knew Xander would hear her and he'd be ready by then too...if annoyed. But he wanted this conviction as much as she did. He'd be ready to take the guy down.
