Alright! If time will let me, I shall go into detail about timing.
Timing is rather important when it comes to working spells and charms, making anything, rituals and the like. Just as the time of your birth was influential (as some believe) so are other times. We'll do it big to small, starting with the moons.
The moon travels in a 28 day cycle, and in that cycle she goes from the tinest sliver to the biggest thing in the sky, and back to nearly invisible. Its hypnotic, even to just look up every night and see her change over and over again.
At the beginning, shes the waxing moon, the crescent, the maiden. This is a good time to start projects, for as the moons small at first, it grows every night. It's a good time to set your goals, begin new things (such as a book 3nodding ). What you do during a waxing moon should indicate to the "higher ups" what you wish to be carried out.
The waxing moon slowly turns into the full moon, the big, bright, often low hanging orb in the sky. This is the time esbats are held (I'll let Neri go into detail about that wink ), and a great time to do whatever spell or working you want. Its like a very powerful neutral point, although I would stave off doing anything with a more negative nature until after the full moon. The full moon is the mother aspect of the goddess, and plentiful. Make wishes, give thanks, cast love spells, or anything else you wish to welcome into your life. Have fun!
The moon stays full for only so long before she starts to pull the dark veil over her again, and then she turns into the waning moon. Waning basically means "getting smaller", and from Earth it looks that way. The waning moon is a time to clear out the negative things in your life. Cleanse, do protection spells and the like if you need to. The waning moon is the crone, she whos seen the most and knows what to do.
Then, altogether it looks like the moons totally disappeared. This is the new moon, and is a time for reflection. Legends have it that this is the time the mother rests, and its a time of mystery. Its in this short span of time that we reflect on whats to come, its a time of planning before we act.
Now, the moons rather important, but there are other factors in this whole scheme to consider. Of course there are the other planets, and then there are the days of the week. The days of the week were named after the Gods, both Norse AND Roman (something I thought hilarious as I sat in French class back in high school). Different days hold different energies, and should be considered when casting spells.
Monday- associated with the Moon, and is a good day for things dealing with intuition, knowledge, feminine things, and protection.
Tuesday-associated with Mars, and is a good day for things that require a LOT of energy, solving problems, debating and sex...
Wednesday-associated with Mercury, and is a great day for anything involving communication or learning. Clarity on issues, debating, and ending fights are also suggested.
Thursday-associated with Jupiter and is the day to ask for money. Abundance in any form, growth, happiness.
Friday-associated with Venus and is the Love day. This is a great time to do spells for love, friendship, happiness, harmony and peace. Anything to feel all warm and fuzzy.
Saturday-associated with Saturn and is the day to banish things. Cut ties with anything negative and clear out the unnecessary.
Sunday-associated with the Sun of course, and is a good day to start things, ask for guidance, feel good about life, and soak up all that solar energy.
(You may notice not all 9 planets got covered. Due to us picking up lore from the old days and whatnot, the 6 planets of the week were really just considered back in the day. The other three wernt added till later, and the Moon was considered a planet for a long freakin time. As time progressed, the other three planets were used more in astrology, as were most all of their moons and the like. I'll cover that after I've had quite a few drinks in me and have the courage to talk about the HUGE BUBBLE THAT IS ASTROLOGY ~fears it~)
The days are great enough to consider, but you want to dive deeper? Well, the hours are separated out as well, ruled over by the "planets", and changed every day depending on the sunrise. Your best bet, look it up online. There are pages posted that will give you accurate hourly readings with which planet is ruling over them and whens your best window of time to cast that horrific love spell you think is gonna happen...Kidding. I'll go into love spells later. Anyways, There is a TON of math you can do, but Im a lazy witch like the rest of our population and just find it online if I even factor it in at all. Really, If im gonna cast a spell, the Day is about as concise as I'm gonna go. Ususally I just feel these sorts of things and cast spells left and right that work out just fine. But, if you want. There is it.
