No one ever said becoming a dragon rider was going to be easy. In fact, you're probably feeling pretty left out with the Gather going on at the Hold, and you being left behind to care for your new companion. Well, not to worry, you haven't been forgotten! Your new Weyrlingmaster, F'say, has made sure you'll all be happy. He's left weyrling H'dra to keep you company (and babysit) so you can have a Gather of your own! There's poker, dancing, and he's even sent some fresh bubbly pies back for everyone to enjoy.

A tent has been set up in the Weyr Bowl, plenty big enough to sport the riders and their young dragons. The set-up is surprisingly similiar to the Hatching Feast--minus the throngs of people and uncomfortable heat. Oh, and if you must teach your dragons how to dance, try to make sure they aren't going to trample all over everyone...

E'si wasn't sore over not being able to participate in the Hold's Gather. He'd been to enough of them to know the going-ons, the drunken holders staggering through tents and into stands, the playful betting that accompanied the runnerbeast racer's. He'd experienced it before, and he honestly didn't see any particular reason to experience it again so soon. So when it became clear that the Weyrlings would be unable to attend, he simply shrugged it off. It was planned to be a pleasant evening with taking Miith down to the lake to oil her and splash around in the water for a bit. Galliath was nowhere to be seen that day, and so he had rather enjoyed the somewhat-quiet company spent with his dragonet.

The pair now sat near the corner of the tent, which was likely to be the place where Miith would encounter less women. E'si was beginning to believe that it was becoming clear to everyone that Miith heavily favored hanging around other boys and heavily disfavored hanging out with girls. They're just boring! Miith proclaimed, prodding her way into E'si's current thoughts about his dragonet and her peculiar behaviors.

The young Weyrling smiled, a hand reaching out to soothingly scratch his dragonet's eye ridge. "Yeah, they are pretty boring." He had learned pretty quickly that when it came to Miith, the easiest way to placate her was to agree with everything she said. He was becoming increasingly apt with it over the sevendays.

E'si chewed idly on a sweet roll, watching some of the Weyrlings stumble along in dance (he questioned how such lack-of-grace would play in to the future), listening to the soft buzz of conversation between the Weyrlings gathered. It wasn't as large as the Gather down at the Hold must have been, but it was definitely a more comfortable environment, and he wasn't having a horrendously poor time after showing up. Eh, this thing might be a little fun, even.

Do we have to do this? Fuxith asked querulously, lifting each talon high before placing it neatly upon the ground. His wasn't bringing him to eat, and His had woken him from a nap, so that meant a social gathering of some sort. Lovely. I'm sleepy, he whined, although he hadn't been far from waking up on his own. Can we come here later?

"That would be rude," Zara chided, shooting her bonded a glance. "F'sey went through a lot of trouble so that we could have some fun. Don't you want that?"

Your fun is not my fun. A snort punctuated this remark. However, the magical word 'rude' served its intended purpose. But you can have fun. I will watch.

"Well it was nice of them to set this up." R'ael noted, sitting down at a bench and scratching Jaereth's head. The blue made an appreciative noise, leaning into the scratching, and then leaned heavily against his rider's leg. He was a fairly relaxed, casual dragon, slightly contrasting R'ael, who was socially awkward among strangers, though perhaps part of the difference was that Jaereth seemed to be faintly convinced that the world would naturally be friendly, given half a chance.
It's nice. The hatchling agreed. Much less crowded.
"I thought you didn't mind all the people?" R'ael asked, looking around at the other new Weyrlings. Every so often he still needed to remind himself that he and Jaereth really were part of their number.
I don't, but you do. You need to relax.

’Mine look at them! They are so small and cute! Can we be friends with them all? I want to be friends with them all! And the riders! And the dragons! Did I say that already? Can we keep one? I would like that very much~!’

Dievath’s eyes were whirling as he nudged his head under H’dra’s arm, crooning softly to the boy. How he had gotten into the tent was a mystery, though he had been absolutely insistent that he had to be there. The blue had been too big to attend the Hatching Feast, and he would be very sad indeed if he couldn’t attend the Weyrling Gather. Thus, he was settled down in the back of the tent, watching the goings on with barely concealed excitement. Every so often the tip of his tail would sway back and forth. How he wanted to run and play with the little dragons! But he had to be good. He had promised after all.

If the blue looked out of place at the head of the tent, then H’dra looked even more so. Why F’sey had appointed him to watch over the Weyrlings was beyond him, particularly because he was sure he’s younger than all of the newly Impressed. But there’s nothing he can do about it now, and if he’s going to make F’sey proud then he has to remember his rank and his duty. Sr. Weyrling H’dra, watching over all the Jr. Weyrlings. This ought to be interesting…

’That girl Impressed Mine! Look, see her with the blue?’

H’dra’s gaze moves through the crowd until it lands on Zara. So she had Impressed. He can’t help but smile. Looks like she wouldn’t have to use her back up plan after all.

Galliath was a good bit more excited about the Weyrling Gather than S'van was. Of course, that had something to do with the fact that the latter had been planning to spend the next Gather with his best friend, and had realized only too late that being a newly Impressed weyrling, there was no way that he could go. He had not expected it to come so soon, but he really ought to have. The weather was nice. It was precisely the sort of time to hold a Gather, and he couldn't really blame the Holder for setting one up. Still, he hoped that the next time there was a Gather he could attend too. Reaching down to scratch his dragonet's eyeridges, he smiled at the hum that the little brown beast made.

S'van there's Miith, and Jaereth, and Dievath! And another that Galliath couldn't quite remember. ... Fuxith? Scrabbling along the Weyr Bowl, the brown dragonet led his rider toward his friend, clutchmates, and the Sr. Weyrling. Miiiiiith, I am here! Galliath trumpeted, thoroughly pleased with himself. S'van couldn't hold back a laugh at the dragonet's smug tone. He truly was adorable, wasn't he? Moving at an expeditious speed, the pair made their way to the others. As they neared the tent, it became clear to the new rider that the Weyr had gone out of its way to give them something special, even though most of the inhabitants were off enjoying the Gather. He grinned broadly, coming to a stop near his compatriots. "Well, hello there!" he called, feeling somewhat vindicated. This was much nicer than he'd anticipated. It really was.
