Physical Description: Slight, but not short (for a seven turn old; She is destined to be tall), Giya has wide hazel eyes, a diminutive nose, and an almost perpetual pout. Her hair is a dark auburn, and tends to be kept in a pair of braids when she is running about the Weyr. She has high cheekbones, and a delicate round face. She is lightly tanned, and has a small gap between her two front teeth. When her mother doesn’t watch her closely, she ends up with bits of dirt and brick brack in her hair, more often than not from playing outside with the other weyrbrats. Her knees are nearly always skinned or scraped a little, and she often has stains on her skirts from grubbing in the mud.
Personality: Bossy. She has her moments of heart stopping sweetness like any other child, but her first and foremost goal in life is to see to it that she and her younger half-sister Kaylen are treated properly. She has a bit of a complex about her ILLUSTRIOUS (poor S’kagi) parentage, but it is innocent enough. When other children mistreat Kaylen, she has a tendency to grab them by the ear or slap them. She learned the former from either her mother or one of the other healers, and it stuck. She is not a quiet child, not remotely. She is a bright, quick child who believes she is very adult and fancies herself above the mischief that her compatriots get up to, but she is just as fast to nab a second bubbly pie when the cook’s back is turned.
History: Giya is the daughter of (current) Bronzerider S’kagi (then Saekagi) and a healer by the name of Katya, who was once posted at the Weaver Hall to help with the minor injuries that are associated with the craft (cramped fingers, pricked fingers, the occasional sprain, etc) and later brought to the Weyr on Search. Over a period of a month or so, she divided her attention between taking care of her new baby and helping the healers out. One day, a dragonrider by the name of A’len suffered a fall from his blue dragon when his riding strap gave out. Katya was the healer assigned to nurse his broken arm, and wounded pride, though that didn’t work out quite the way he might have hoped. When she discovered the cause of his injury, she berated him for not checking his strap beforehand, and sticking her with unnecessary work when there “Might well be unfortunates in true need!” of her skills.
Through a round of arguments and much cowering from A’len, a beautiful friendship was born. That friendship later became love, and A’len took the healer as his weyrmate. He treated her baby as his own, and before long, he truly became a father in both name and blood when Katya became pregnant with his child. The healer, somewhat dismayed by her fertility, grumbled somewhat but gave birth to a happy, healthy girl nine months later. Thus Kaylen was brought into the world, and into a very lively home. Kagiya and Kaylen grew close, the elder child conscious that her father was not Kay’s father, but not concerned by that fact overly much. That tolerance was assisted along by the fact that she was not remotely the only child who had a half-sib, not at all surprising given that the other children were also weyrbrats.
While there is only approximately a twenty two month difference between Kay and Giya’s ages, Giya has always felt protective of her little sister, going to great lengths to keep her safe and happy. Due to their small age gap, neither child has ever lacked for a playmate, a fact which has sometimes given their mother a great deal of relief. When not causing mischief (and trying to get Kaylen to follow her into it) Kagiya sometimes spends time admiring the dragons that fill the Weyr almost to overflowing. She is utterly convinced that anything that she does can't possibly be mischievous because she is so obviously mature (ha!), so she doesn't worry about getting Kay into trouble. She is very curious about her blood father, though she has not yet met him, and Katya has not encouraged her to do so. It is possible that she will seek him out when she discovers his identity.
Pets: None. Trundlebugs aren’t pets they are bugs, silly!
Other/Talents: She is very good at stringing flowers together to make crowns for herself and the other children she plays with. She also makes a mean mud pie.
