Well, my history teacher has tasked me with finding a suitable Vietnam war movie for us to watch. He said he wanted to have us watch Full Metal Jacket or Platoon, but he can't because they're too deep for our class. (looks like he learned from the whole Saving Private Ryan incident. While watching SPR a while back, absolutely NO ONE in the class got it, the teacher and myself excluded. )
So I've been going through all the Vietnam war movies that I remember watching, which surprisingly most of them I saw when I was six or so. Also, I realized I haven't seen most if not all of them in a long time as well.
So here's the list I came up with:
Casualties of War-Not gonna happen. Massive amounts of rape from what I remember.
The Deer Hunter-Pass. Too deep, depressing, and ultra violent.
Good Morning Vietnam-Pass. Stars Robin Williams, and is a comedy.
Operation Dumbo Drop-Pass. A Disney war movie about a group of soldiers delivering a elephant and a kid to another village.
Stripes-Pass. Stars Bill Murray. Was never in a serious film in his life.
We Were Soldiers-Approved. Don't really remember this one, but my brothers advise me that it's good and not too deep. Also, I ran out of Vietnam movies.
If any of you guys can think of any others, pleas post 'em here.

What I can't understand though is how you can't understand FMJ? I've never had a chance to watch Platoon, but FMJ is a timeless classic, same with Saving Private Ryan and We Were Soldiers.

The reason we're not watching FMJ is because the class is full of tards that wouldn't get it. They couldn't grasp SPR and during the whole viewing of it, and wouldn't stop asking questions through the whole viewing. SPR isn't that hard to understand, but they still didn't get it. So we need something simple and easy to grasp for the people who couldn't understand why the dead guy just didn't tell Tom Hanks that he was dead and didn't need to be carried anymore. (seriously, they asked this.)

full metal jacket is based on that war! and its kick a** in my opinion as well.
platoon maybe?
stripes is awful movie to me, i rented it awhile back and its good for a laugh but there is no body count or anything that comes close to war. sorry.
