Ranks in the aves pack are primarily the same as a normal wolf pack, there are simply some additional variation within the groups for rp purposes.
Alpha: The leadership of the Aves pack is mainly hereditary and singular - generally not a pair. It is not gender biased but if the alpha's progeny all lack the skill or will to lead the pack then a replacement is usually found via means of election rather than tracing bloodlines. Stability is valued over genetics.
Generally the alpha is a good hunter and leads all hunts and anything physical the pack will attempt - though sometimes this task will fall to an experienced Beta.
Beta: The pack 'betas' are the advisors and trusted confidante's to the alpha of the pack. Often this role will fall to the alpha's mate though it may also fall to a sibling or friend. They enforce and help judge the pack's rules.
The highest ranked of the pack's spiritualists is equal in rank to a beta. Their advice is highly valued regarding the pack's spirituality but they will generally shy away from non-spiritual matters. They are usually left in charge of the sick, the old, and the weak.
Gamma: The rank and file of the pack are generally split into two groups: Hunters and Acolytes. Acolytes are not very common, especially in smaller packs, but are usually seen by others gammas as slightly 'special'.
The hunters of the pack are as wolves everywhere - the skill of the hunter brings them prestige and a skillfull hunter is usually held in as high esteem as an acolyte - higher, sometimes.
In both, skill is more important than any named rank or whom birthed them.
Omega: Omegas are rare in the egalitarian Aves pack - they are usually not those who are meek, but those who have done a wrong which is enough for them to lose a lot of respect but not enough for them to be removed from the pack. Generally the pack likes to help those who do wrong by understanding and tutoring them as to what is 'right' in the eyes of the pack.
Adolescent: Whilst adolescents are generally considered lower rank, if they are the next-in-line to the leadership or are strong acolytes they often out-rank gammas. This is mainly on a case-by-case basis and is more an informal respect for talent or propriety than a simple case of rank.
Sometimes an Acolyte will be sent back to be trained with another pack.
Pup: Pups are precious bundles of potential in the eyes of the pack.
