Planet Name: Oshtameer
Radius: 8200 km
Percentage Water Cover: 88%
Percentage of surface that is life-sustaining: 95%
Gravity: 1.67g
Number of Moons: 17
Atmosphere: 30% Oxygen, 40% Hydrogen, 10% Nitrogen, 15% water vapour, 5% other.
Key Features: The world of Oshtameer has very deep oceans and seas compared to Earth. While being only slightly larger than Earth, it has a great deal more water, and less rock. The water is heavy water; it composes mostly of H3O. Additionally, where silicate materials are more common on Earth, those get eroded very quickly on Oshtameer. Because of that, most of the soils and rock are composed of silver, of all things.
The same goes for its moons: they are silver, and very heavy. Due to their close proximity and size, they affect the tides greatly. There are very little patterns in the tides, and the water can rise over 500 meters in a matter of minutes. Because of this, most "land creatures" are really amphibious. Unless they live in the highest mountain regions, most creatures can either breathe water or maintain their own air supply.
Sentient Species: The Jishta are a purely aquatic race. Many are up to 9-11 meters long, with a height and width of three meters. They purely feed on microbial organisms, and as such, they have a wide 'filter mouth.' Unlike many Terran whales, though, the mouth is covered by a fine mesh of skin, allowing for only the smallest particles to get in. They have six fins in total; four caudal fins making a circle, and two large pectoral fins for motion control. They are able to metabolize aqueous silver, and have several high-silver-content bones as plates and quills for protection. Most vital areas are covered with subdermal metal. The Jishta have two large pocket-like organs on each side. These pockets have large, prehensile flaps. Inside the pockets, there are many cilia-like nodes of varying sizes that allow the Jishta to manipulate objects. The flap can create a hard seal, allowing a vacuum devoid of water to occur.
Jishta are similarly intelligent to humans, but lack many of the needs or abilities that humans have. Air or space travel would be impossible for these aquatics, and have little need for shelter. That said, they are highly technological. Due to electric short circuits with water, many of their technology is chemical or photovoltaic in nature. Additionally, heavy water results in much more nuclear technology.
Note: Jishta will be described more in a thread directly about the species.
Why the planet was doomed: As mentioned above, many of the moons had high metal content, with some especially rare metals. Extra-Oshtameerial aliens went to work mining the moons with demolitions and heavy drilling, causing the moons to change orbit and smash into one another. As more and more collisions occurred, the pieces fell towards the planet surface, boiling the water and destroying the landscape. The Jishta were fish in a barrel, being shot by silver bullets.
As usual, the Keepers were alerted and began harvesting the planet.
