Whistle sighed to herself as she moved through the forest, thinking about the wonderful friends she had made so far. They were all very kind to her, trying to explain the lay of the lands... To explain about the Kiwani and their traditions...
To teach her a few words here and there, so she could at least greet the people properly.
And she was very grateful to be learning so much... For her memories were still foggy and scattered... Teasing hints... Vague truths... Shadows where beloved faces should be.
Everyone was very kind to her.. But no one seemed to know her mate... Or where she should look. Not that even she knew that, which was perhaps the biggest failing...
"Just have to keep trying." She murmured, her mind made up. "I won't give up.."

 Echo's Song was enjoying a cool morning's grazing session. The shoots of vegetation were always the best at this time. Her gaze scanned the horizon as she munched contentedly. The patch of grazing ground that she had found gave her a clear view of her surroundings. But what was this? Another mare strolled into the vicinity. Echo's ears swiveled back and forth catching the murmured words.
Stamping a hoof onto the ground Echo spoke. "Excuse me ... are you wanting something?"

So caught up in trying to jog her memory, she wasn't paying attention to where her hooves carried her. At the sound of another's voice and the stomp, she jumped slightly, startled. Quickly focusing on the mare, she bobbed her head in a silent greeting as she tried to scramble her thoughts.
"Oh.. Hello, Sorry about that." She murmured, unsure if the stranger was annoyed. "No.. Not really, I'm, I'm looking for someone."

Echo's tail swished suddenly at a circling fly and she glanced towards the newcomer with an interested expression. Reaching down she grabbed another mouthful of grass and chewed it thoughtfully before swallowing and organizing her thoughts on the purple mare in front of her.
"Oh. Would you mind if I asked who you might be seeking out? I mean it's probably none of my business - but perhaps I can be of some assistance."

Whistle shifted uneasily as the stranger eyed her, trying to put her thoughts into words. At the question she squashed the idiotic impulse to wince and laugh at the same time. That would be telling, wouldn't it?
"Ahhh.." She cleared her throat and frowned. "Well... I am searching for my mate. However, something happened and my memories are less-than-clear of him... So..."
She flushed and flicked her tail. "And believe me, as awful as that sounds, I feel worse."
She forgot her own mate!? Honestly! In misery Whistle waited for the other mare's censure.

Wow. That must be a terrible thing to happen. But how can I relate to her? I've never lost my memories.
Echo mused quietly to herself. The mare before her obviously was troubled by her predicament and honestly without knowing the feeling of losing something like that Echo couldn't relate as well as she hoped. As the silence grew she happened to notice that the other mare was looking more miserable by the second.
Time to break the silence.
"That is a terrible thing to have happened. I honestly have never had that experience. But I'm sure things will work out. I am willing to still help if you'd like. What is your name? I am Echo's Song. However you can call me Echo if you prefer."

Whistle managed a weak smile, ducking her head faintly. "I understand it is a hard thing to empathize with, but I appreciate your effort... Probably not a very common thing, is it?"
She gave a soft huff of laughter, then shook it away. "Oh, forgive me.. It is very nice to meet you, Echo's Song... My name is Whistle, and I am a fair stranger in this land, it would be nice to have a helping-hoof..."
She gave a faint sigh. "Would you by chance have seen a stallion the color of starlight on mist?"
