What can I say? I really loved pretty much all of them. It was cool how they brought back the old style and some of the elements. I could have done without fighting "god" but it's ok.

Firstly, Vivi being a black mage was absolute ownage. Instant favorite character.

Thought it was interesting how the story Ramuh tells you, is actually part of FFII.

The obvious one where you fight all four of the main bosses in FFI. Lich, Marilith, Kraken, and Tiamat. Fighting them once was enough though, was really dumb how they made them random encounters later and they were stronger.

That's all the ones I really remember now, there might have been more though.

Oh yeah, and I gotta say this, Disc 3 Steiner and Beatrix vs. all the monsters from the Tremors movies in the town, XD. Loved it for their story development, but just hated the monster design. All I said was wtf?!

What they should have done was make Zidane go Super Saiyan for an FFVII reference. Meh, can't win 'em all. ^_^

Meh, everybody hates Necron. He's just so randomly stuck in there! They could have just stopped after Kuja!

Well, the game was supposed to primarily reference I-VI, and honestly... as much as I love him, do we really need another Cloud? sweatdrop

Of course, they did stick in a couple of neat little throwbacks... The awesomely epic line Zidane says in the play, for one. "No cloud nor squall shall hinder us." And of course if you check out the Buster Sword in Lindblum's weapon shop, "I knew a guy with spiky hair that used a sword like this."

What else...?

There's the Invincible from III... Garland, obviously... the Conde Petie dwarves... Mount Gulug... Dagger's outfit when you meet her...

Oh wow, that is a lot of stuff. You're making me wanna play it again hehe.

And no, we don't need another reference to Cloud, I had just been watching a lot of DBZ that day XD.

Necron was kind've random, like, "Oh, forget that guy. I'm the REAL final boss."
Storyline focusing around the "souls that circle the planet" sounds uncannily similar to the "Lifestream." You also see what looks like the Lifestream deep beneath the Iifa Tree. I think this subtly hints at the series having an actual timeline (for example, in X-2, the kid named Shinra mentions using energy in the planet's depth to create a "City that Never Sleeps," in order to mimic Zanarkand).

There is an actual theory about VII being the future of X... Shinra Electric Company was founded by Shinra the Al Bhed's descendents; dresspheres are the precursors to materia, and so on. I honestly can't remember the verdict on whether it was true or not.

And definitely true about the souls! That and memories are pretty recurring themes in Final Fantasy... Dresspheres and materia both work off of the memories of the dead. Also, nobody seems to realize how The Spirits Within ties in to these themes; they just look at all the superficial stuff in the movie and say it has nothing to do with the series, but the same goes for the spirits there. Plus, the other planet with the Phantoms is a lot like Omega WEAPON in VII and like the assimilation of Gaia and Terra.

Oops... getting off-topic; it's supposed to be entirely about IX. sweatdrop

Oh, I'd never even thought about Dress Spheres, perhaps because I disliked the game (story not so much, gameplay and most of the music, yeah, difficult to stomach), and don't like making references to it. I wonder if that was an embarressing sale for Square Enix....

When Zidane is trying to catch Dagger and she lands in the mass of musicians before running through the door to hit Ruby, did anybody notice that the music being played was the music for Rufus in VII?

Yep! On IX's soundtrack, it's called "Rufus's Welcoming Ceremony (Millenium Version)." Just another little throwback to earlier games, I guess. biggrin

Something not a lot of people I know who are big FF fans know is that all of the playable characters are stereotypical job classes from the older games...for their fighting methods at least
Zidane, Cinna, Marcus, Blank -Thief
Vivi -Black Mage
Stiener -Knight
Dagger -Summoner
Freya -Dragoon
Quina -Blue Mage
Eiko -White Mage
Arment -Monk
Beatrix -Paladin

Not only that, you got a lot of references of I-VI. The classic 4 person party, some of the trance abilities were used in previous games, Garnet's real name, and just so many others.
