Jack looked around with a bemused expression as he bent to set Regina down on the ground. The park. It was strange how he had never been here before despite being a "father" to three other children before his new little surprise. Then again, the children ranging from small flying fairy things to girls trapped in cups, he supposed it only made sense. He looked down and raised an eyebrow at the feel of strong little fingers closing on his pants leg. "What's up, princess?" he asked patiently.
Regina merely stared up at him and then clung harder before shaking her head and burying her face against the rough denim. She remained silent - just as she had since emerging from the box. No words yet, just the very rare noise of distress or surprise. He was still working on earning laughter.
Sighing, he squatted down and gently disengaged her hands. "Regina," he said firmly, "we're at the park. Nobody's gonna hurt you. I'll be here the whole time. Promise. Okay?"
She looked at him doubtfully but allowed him to pull her hands away. Then she looked around a bit. Soon she spotted the sand pit and pointed. Jack grinned. "If you want, sure," he agreed. Bending to pick her up again, he carried her over and deposited her amongst the miniature dunes. He waited a few minutes until, fascinated, Regina began running her fingers through the sand. Then he retreated to a nearby bench and tugged a small leather-bound book from his pocket, settling in to divide his attention between book and child.

Ash, Quinn was learning, was an incredibly energetic child. If he didn't take him outside often, he would run around destroying things in the house. Thus, they spent a lot of time at the park. Ash immediately sped off, arms spread out and lips 'brbrbrbr'ing as an airplane, Pikachu's tail gripped in one hand. He jumped onto a swing and flew in the air for a few seconds, before hopping off and flying over to the sand dunes.
He blinked at the foreign invader to his box of sand.
It was a girl.
He hadn't seen many of these. He assumed they had to exist, but Quinn was his usual company, and Quinn didn't exactly bring women home. He stepped into the sand dunes and came up right in front of her, squatting down to stare.
"I'm Ash. Yo-uh name is?" He brought his pikachu up in front of him, showing it off. "Dis is Pikachu." He smiled encouragingly. "Funderboat!"

Regina made a sharp noise in between a scream and a yelp, nearly tumbling over backwards as the toy was shoved in her face. She squeaked again and made a more concerted effort to scramble away from the new arrivals. Then, shockingly, she growled.
Jack's head had immediately come up at her first noise and he watched with a frown as his new daughter moved to all fours and frowned at the little boy now with her. He sighed. "Regina," he called out, determined to only leave the bench if she were in trouble. "Reggie, pet, don't be like that." He considered the boy. "He's a nice kid, eh?"
His words distracted Regina and she turned to give him a look of utter betrayal. Then, slowly, she returned to sitting upright properly and burying her hands in the sand. She pouted for a moment, then nodded at Ash in greeting.

Ash jumped backwards as the girl growled at him, holding up his PIkachu in defense. (Wild Regina appeared! Ashley Moreau sends out Pikachu!) If this was how all girls acted, he understood why Daddy didn't bring them home.
He heard the man call her name, and looked at her warily. "Yo-uh name is Wegina?" He giggled. "Thassa siwwy name." He hugged his arms around Pikachu's stomach. The girl seemed to calm down a bit, so he sat down into the sand in front of her.
He set pikachu down in an upright position, so it could keep a watchful eye on the wild Regina in case she tried to attack. (Pikachu uses Bide!)
"Do you wike sand boxes? I wike sand boxes." He pushed the sand around lightly with his hand.

Regina tilted her head to consider him and then, ever so carefully, she crawled close enough to easily see what he was doing with his own patch of sand. She smiled a bit, shy and lopsided, before nodding to answer his question. Then she looked at his Pikachu and pointed at it, motioning from him to the toy as if to make sure of the ownership. It also seemed as if she was looking for permission because, after waiting a moment, she very gently patted Pikachu's head.

Ash nodded happily as Regina patted Pikachu. "He wikes you." He doodled a smiley face in the sand with his finger. It was lopsided, and the eyeballs were mostly not on the face. He looked proud of it, though.
"Do you have a fun Daddy? My Daddy is fun." He nodded enthusiastically. "We do lotsa fun stuff."

Regina nodded again but this time it was more certain and she glanced again at Jack. She smiled and he obediently waved back at her before turning a page in his book. Then she looked back at Ash and made a show of looking around for his Daddy. Almost absently, she used her own finger to draw a lopsided halo above the smiley face.

"My daddy's on the bench over thewe." He pointed in a vague direction, not even looking. He added wings to the smiley face, to go with the halo. "The one wif all the cowors."

Regina's mouth formed a little "o" of recognition as she turned her attention to the other adult in attendance. She studied him for a moment and then shyly lifted a hand to wave. The moment passed, though, and she bent her head over Ash's doodle in the sand once more.

Quinn waved back, and smiled. He was glad Ash was making friends-- he had been worried the boy wouldn't be able to meet anyone that he got along with, considering his odd concept of things.
"Wessee." He looked Regina up and down. "Pikachu can use Funderboat. What can you use?" He thought for a moment.
"Iron taiw?" He suggested, "or maybe steew wing?"

Regina looked at him blankly. Then she held out her hands, palms-upwards, a clear sign for "no idea." She glanced over her shoulder to Jack and he looked up in time to see her confusion. Sighing under his breath, he closed his book and stood to join the two small children. He crouched at the edge of the sandbox. "What's up?"

"I dunno what powers she has," he explained, patiently to the adult that obviously knew nothing about anything. "I t'ought maybe Iron taiw, or Steew wing. But I dunno!" He gave the man a look of desperation. "Hewp?"
Quinn saw the man step up next to them, and came up on his own, slightly worried. Hearing their conversation, he laughed, though.
"Sorry. He seems to think everyone's something he can collect. I don't know where it comes from. He named a girl 'Casiasaur' a few days ago. Oh, Hi, by the way, I'm Quinnipede, or Quinn to anyone who isn't Ashley." He laughed, and reached out a hand to shake the other man's.

"Jack." He smiled at the handshake and then inclined his head towards his daughter. "That's Regina. She's the quiet type," he offered. "I'm kinda surprised she's gettin' on so well with Ash. It's good, though."
Regina flexed her fingers, pushing them down into the sand as she watched the two adults talk. Then she pulled them out and allowed the sand to trickle through. Intrigued, she looked down, repeated the gesture, and held out both hands to show Ash the results. If she was bothered by a lack of named powers, she didn't seem to show it.
