Kallista. I'm bored. The others are boring. You should go out to the Bowl and find someone to keep me company. Astarteth complained. As the green got older, she was distancing herself more from the other greens. The only one she talked to was Ceylith and that just because Kallista talked to her rider. She looked over at her rider who was brushing her much shorter hair and huffed. It's stuffy in here. I want out now!
Kallista sighed and put the brush down. It was true. The barracks were boring. She really hadn't made any overtures to form friendships with other people. There was only so much one could do before being completely dulled out of one's mind. There was at least a full hour before they needed to be someplace. "Alright, we can go. Maybe Daramulath will be down there."
There was a pause.
No. I don't think so. But there are several bronzes and browns down there to admire me. Hurry! Hurry! Astarteth started out on her own, towards the Bowl. She was definitely growing up and getting lean, slim... Like a runnerbeast bred for beauty and speed. I shall leave you behind.
Jumping up, Kallista sprinted out after her dragon. Shards, what was she going to do when her green love could fly? Shaking her head, Kallista tried to ignore that thought. Flying eventually meant mating, which she wasn't opposed to the rider's side of things but that was a way off. Hazel eyes searching, she spotted first her Astar and then the bronze she was walking towards.
ASTAR! Don't! Kallista tried to stop her dragon.
What? I have not met this clutchmate of mine! Hello, who are you? I am Astarteth. We have not spoke, no? The green bugled a welcome to the bronze senior weyrling, not caring who heard her or if she was interupting anything.
Groaning, she jogged to catch up to her dragon.

It wasn’t a day off, exactly. Weyrlings didn’t have those. But they did, occasionally, have brief moments of respite. This was one now. Or it was supposed to be one…
“Han! Han, get back here!” C’ym yelled the Bronze’s name again and waved the bottle of oil around ineffectually. “Han! Your hide needs oiling! You’re the one who woke me up complaining about being itchy! Now get over here, or you won’t be oiled!”
It became clear that yelling anything at all was just a waste of breath, but the Senior Weyrling tried anyway, on the basis that yelling and waving the oil around made him feel better. “Hanumanth! Get over here, now!” You could always tell when he meant serious business; he used the dragon’s full name.
The dragon himself, however, continued to ignore his rider and romp around. It was like watching a large---very large---canine play Keep-Away with its master. In this case, the dog was taller than a runnerbeast and probably weighed twice as much. Every now and then, he’d stop juuuust out of reach of C’ym before gamboling off again. It wasn’t a graceful run; it was really more of a lope, or perhaps a fall that was simply delayed. Judging by the constant rumbles coming from Han’s throat, the Bronze thought it was the best game ever.
Come on, C’ym! You can do better than that! he jeered at his rider, happy to see him in motion. In all honesty, Han’s hide hadn’t been itchy at all this morning. It was a Lie, but one that had led to fun. So, clearly, it couldn’t be all that bad, right?
In his constant movement, Han nearly ran right over poor Astarteth; letting out an apologetic bleat, he took a few steps away. I’m sorry! I didn’t see you there. And what a pity that was too! I’m Hanumanth and this is C’ym. Don’t mind him. He’s lazy.
“Ha! I’ve got you now!” It would have been more dramatic if Han had actually been moving, but C’ym was willing to take what he could get. If Han had been distracted, well, fine. It was still a victory. Eventually, he realized that Han was busy talking to another dragon. A Green. Oh no… he could only hope that Han wasn’t getting it in his mind to try for a Green. He sidled closer to his dragon, still holding the bottle of oil.
“Um… hello.”

Astarteth squawked and sat down abruptly when the bronze charged at her. Bringing her wings and tail in close, she sat blinking as if trying to gather herself back together. The green's eyes whirled fast with excitement. Finally, she looked up at her clutchmate. He was at least a head taller than her, which made looking at him awkward. Scooting back, Astarteth finally answered. Yes. I had to bully mine into coming out as well. Such a lovely day, no reason to be inside. It's very dull.
He was a bronze with nice markings all over his body. A little more comfortable, Astarteth stood up and stretched herself out slowly, allowing him to get a full sight of her. Your rider has oil. Are you being oiled? Were you heading to the lake?
Kallista, in the meanwhile, had nearly had her heart stopped when the bronze almost charged down her green. Running up, she was tempted to hug her dragon and scold the bronze but knew she didn't have that right. Instead, she gave the rider who came running up a cool look. "Hello there. Your fellow, I take it? Didn't we both Impress from the same clutch? I'm Kallista, Astarteth's rider."

Completely unaware of how much bigger and heavier he was, Han simply tried to play with Kallista. It was like watching a huge dog try to play with a much smaller one. It was a fine day for play, as far as he was concerned, and Astarteth running up could only mean one thing: she wanted to play too! Only C’ym’s dismay let him know he was doing something wrong and filled him with confusion.
If he noticed how lovely Astarteth was, he didn’t show it. At least, he didn’t show anything at first. It very slowly dawned on him that there was something different about her… His plans with C’ym had absolutely nothing to do with the lake but, on impulse, he said, Yep! We’re going to the lake! Isn’t that right, C’ym? We’re going to the lake! Yes, that’s where we’re going!
Han. Don’t do that… you might hurt her!
“We are?” C’ym asked dimly, wondering what had come over Han. It must’ve been something in the air. Hey, if Han wanted to be social with another dragon, he wasn’t going to complain. It would give him a moment to rest, really. He patted Han’s shoulder affectionately before looking over at Kallista. “Yeah, I’m C’ym and this is Hanumanth. Nice to meet you. Apparently, we’re going to the lake now. Are you heading there too? I’m sorry about him, by the way. Um. He’s just trying to play.”

Astarteth walked around the bronze, in what could only be described at checking him out, and she bobbed her head a little. Her eyes whirled blue-green and if she had been human, they would have been twinkling with mischief. Bringing her wings in close, she crooned softly at him. The lake is a place we do not go to that often. Kallista had a bad experience there. When we go, she stays on the beach, I like to swim.
Kallista did not realize that her dragon was divulging all their secrets. Instead, she focused on the rider in front of her. C'ym. He was taller than her, so she took a step back. Now her neck would not hurt so much while she looked up to speak to him. He appeared older than her sixteen turns but then again, looks and age did not always go together. She jerked back when he mentioned the Lake. Though the accident seemed like turns ago, it was still a fresh and sore spot.
"Um.. We can walk down there with you. Astarteth may want to swim but I will stay on the shore. As for playing, Astar always enjoys being around others." Kallista gave her green a slight smile.
Astarteth bumped into Hanumanth. She gave a draconic grin. She agreed! Let's go before she changes her mind.

Han tilted his head to one side, wondering what could have happened at the lake. It didn’t seem like a dangerous place… a few memories bobbed to the surface of his mind, mainly those of C’ym talking about watersnakes. Lytah had brought a very, very tiny tunnelsnake back from her hunt, and Han had been curious. He wanted to learn about everything! It didn’t go too well, since he forgot things over the next few days…
The showy Bronze was soon distracted by Astar’s actions. They simply confused him. But, he reasoned, it took all sorts. That’s what C’ym always said, so Han believed it. Was yours attacked by a watersnake in the Lake? C’ym says that they’re all like, ‘RAWR’! Han attempted to demonstrate by opening his jaws wide and flaring his wings. Only… uhh… I guess they don’t have wings, he added sheepishly.
Unlike his less-than-observant Han, C’ym did notice the shudder and jerk from Kallista. How could he miss it? She was right there and everything. But, he didn’t ask about it, on the basis that it probably wasn’t any of his business. Everyone had their little problems. For C’ym, it was heights.
He felt like he ought to say something. Talking with La was easy. Sure, she was a girl too, like Kallista, but, then again, she… well… wasn’t. It wasn’t easy to explain and C’ym suspected that it wasn’t the right thing to say anyway. “That’s good that Astarteth is social,” he finally said lamely. “Han doesn’t socialize as often as he should. Um. The only dragons he really knows are Bondyeth and Isonth.” Isonth was nice, of course; she didn’t have a mean bone in her body. Apparently, all of those went to Haanyath. And Bo was just a handful with lots of generous scoops of mean-streaked ambition.
The walk to the lake could only be described as ‘awkward’. While Han had missed Astar’s actions, C’ym hadn’t. And they made him nervous, since he didn’t know if they were purely the dragon’s actions or if the Green was reacting to Kallista. Shards, but being a dragonrider was confusing…

No. No water snakes in the lake. Kallista fell down and didn't get up. She was still for a long time. Astarteth replied. She knew that her rider didn't like talking about the incident and switched topics. I haven't seen any snakes before. Though Kallista says their nasty.
"She is a handful now, I can only imagine it will get worse when she gets full grown. Astar is not too found of talking with other greens, though she is great friends with Ceylith, greenrider C'ren's dragon." Kallista responded thoughtfuly. Since both dragons were heading towards the lake, it only made sense to follow them. It was amusing to see Astarteth trotting in the bronze's shadow. "Do you know E'rik and his brown, Daramulath? We are friends with them. Bondyeth is the other bronze from their clutch, yes?"
Kallista didn't have any cleaning supplies nor did she feel like going back to get them. She could only hope that C'ym might be interested in sharing if Astar got too vocal. It was a fine day out and the lake seemed to be brimming with people and dragons. Grimacing slightly, she watched to see where the dragons and C'ym would settle.
